This is in my opinion the worst possible style matchup for Matthysse, and will probably be a more difficult fight than the Garcia fight
I also think Postol beats Garcia, which is probably why Haymon had him duck that fight and just move up to 147 to fight the likes of Malignaggi and Guerrero
Postol is unknown to most fans, but that doesn't mean he isn't any good.
He also trains under Roach/Marvin and I'd have to be pretty naive to think they didnt learn anything about Lucas in the Ruslan fight
Postol has 3 inches of reach (probably about 1.5 - 2" of arm length), and 5 inches of height, he is pretty big for 140
He has more/less every possible physical advantage over Lucas except for Power, but his power is good enough to keep his opponent from being reckless
rooting for lucas but this will probably be the most difficult fight he's ever had in his pro career
I hope I'm wrong, since he's my current favorite active boxer

Good call sir!
he used the exact gameplan that he used in the aydin fight, clinch, move, jab until his opponent starts getting tired, then open up with combinations
From the beginning, it felt like a different Postol imo. He was still a bit stiff in the torso, but he tightened up defensively and he clinched much more. I think he threw more combinations earlier against Aydin than Matts, and his combos were a bit more authoritative this time around when he decided to unload. I think he also maintained distance better. He improved on the finer details.
provo lost cos he couldn't carry on throwing in the later rounds. people talk about it like a FOTY but Matthysse had his way post round 3 or 4 cos Provo didn't do naything.
Combine provos power and grit with a better engine and punch output and we would have seen Matthysse quit.
Add 4 inches to Matthysse's height and reach and he would've beaten Postol
are you ****ing retarded?
Provo lost badly because Lucas is better than he is, and styles make fights.

Pretty much this, I've been saying this for years, it's why I thought Provo might beat him if it gets to being a firefight but Provos engine is too mediocre.

he has a good trainer, in fact one of the guys who trains him was a world champion (Juan Coggi)
my issue with him isn't that he lost, it's that when he gets hurt or frustrated he gives up

Interesting thread - and a good prediction. Always funny looking back at these.
Postol fought a great fight, he should have been deducted points for the holding I feel, it was a bit too much and had too much of an effect on the early action. I think he needs to have a bit more confidence in his combinations and power rather than resort to holding too quickly. I can only see him getting better from here, some good fights for him. Wonder how long he'll be able to keep that frame at 140?
Postol will have to be better than he was against Aydin if he's gonna beat Matts.

Good call, guys. I was rooting for Lucas and I didn't know much about Postol but the little I knew and just seeing the height advantage had me worried to predict. That was a damn near domination. Not only did Postol show superior boxing skills and good power, he also showed grit when he got rocked and came right back at Lucas. He's a problem for sure.
Lucas will be back. He needs a new freakin trainer tho.

The Aydin KO was a thing of beauty.
that was one of the very best knockouts of the year, IMO. aydin had no idea what the f#ck was hitting him until he was on the ground with a referee leaning over him and waving his hands.
great stoppage. you don't need to count to 10 to know that guy has had enough. get his mouthpiece out of his mouth and let his brain get some air.
