That is too low of a volume of punches to go against a Miguel Cotto. Is there any reason to think he can get that to the high 50s or low 60s? 43 a round is not enough against a Miguel Cotto
Its what you land that counts most not what you average on throwing per round.
Cotto will have to turn into the Puerto Rican version of Erislandy Lara which can tally up from body and head otherwise he will get beat up but honestly we all know Lara is better than Cotto.
This IF anything is a more comfortable fight for Canelo, you go from fighting some great movers being Trout, Lara and Mayweather then you go to fight Cotto, there is a drop in class here we can't deny that and I don't believe this 'prime' changed older, wiser version of Cotto he is still the same fighter who got beat soundly by Austin Trout.
I disagree with you about Canelo trying to out box Cotto. If he tries that he will lose like he lost to Mayweather and i mean by a wide UD. Alvarez must use his physical gifts and trie to bully Cotto. His main advantage in this fight is strenght and youth and he must use them if he even wants to be close in this fight. The key for him in this fight is his chin and his stamina. If he can take Cottos punches and fights the 3 minutes of every round insted of taking those long ass breaks he takes during fights this could get interesting but the Canelo we seen so far in his career is severly out guned in every single department.
I think though with miguel he leaves himself open either coming in (falls forward) or on the backfoot he tends to have a low left guard which canelo could exploit with his short foot movements (hes not that great a mover i know) and well placed shots to get in close and dig hard shots to the body and throw uppercuts (miguel cant seem to defend them that well)
With that being said i see cotto as the favourite imo due to canelos stamina and lack of great footwork which cotto has.
This particular match up is almost like an irresistible force which is (Cotto) meeting an immovable object which is (Canelo). Ginger is more of a counter puncher who prefers his opponents to come at him because of his slow feet and inability in cutting off the ring against fighters who tend to move a lot.
Miguel on the other hand is at his best when walking, stalking his opponents down while backing them up in the process; Which will play right into Canelo's hands.
In order for Cotto to win this bout, he is going to have to beat Canelo to the jab and make a few subtle movements but most of all, he must stay out of the exchanges because Alvarez is much younger and his hands are a lot faster than his.

Yeah, the lack of volume from Canelo, especially down the stretch will be telling. But the reality is, what wins this fight for Cotto is his superior movement and skill set. Canelo is probably my favourite young fighter after his recent run of fights, the kid will fight you if you call him out but he just ain't on that level.
hes not jealous of cotto, why would he be? Tito is a legend and respected by all, meanwhile people in caguas talk **** about cotto.
Well Cotto is actually smart with his money and is the exact opposite of Tito. There has always been some tension between them for some reason. After all Cotto was the guy that took the torch from Tito.
The problem for canelo is hes very explosive in his shots, he doesnt have fluidity in his punches when he throws a lot together. If he was to throw around 60 punches per round it would result in him becoming fatigued at a faster rate, i dont think in 1 camp he can correct this so hell have to stick to outboxing cotto for victory.
If he trades with cotto i think he gets dropped as cotto has great technique and fluidity when he punches so his punches will get off first in a trade off imo.
Those who gave cotto problems were boxers or high volume pressure fighters with great stamina, unfortunately canelo doesnt have this due to his explosive technique when he punches so outboxing cotto is the key for his style.

Who among the guys that Canelo has fought can do the damage Cotto does to his opponents? I think Canelo can be hurt by Cotto.
Other thing is that Canelo gasses (which is absurd at his age and considering his activity levels).
The Cotto we've been seeing lately seems to have better stamina than Alvarez.
Cotto is rightfully the underdog here; he's smaller, older and can be hurt by nearly anybody he fights. So what else is new?
That said, he's fought the best of the era and was highly competitive even in losing efforts and they seem to genuinely respect him. Why do you think that is? It's 'cause he's highly skilled and can fkng crack.
Yes, he's the underdog, but he's way live.
Every round it goes past 4 or 5 increases the likelihood of the upset.
War Cotto!! :boxing:
p.s. I'm not convinced that Trinidad was all that awesome and it's my opinion that he's picking Saul (if that is indeed the case) out of nostalgic jealousy.

Cotto isn't fighting the 19 year old kid that knocked out his brother. He is fighting the 25 year old man that no fighter has been able to even hurt. Canelo has never been off his feet but Cotto has been knocked down many times and stopped twice. If you think Kirkland would have won with Wolfe in his corner you are incredibly stupid. Lara lost unless you give him extra points for running. If Canelo is a hype job what will that make Cotto after Canelo knocks him out? Trinidad vs Vargas has nothing to do with Canelo vs Cotto. Trinidad was ten times the fighter Cotto is. Interestingly Trinidad is picking Canelo to beat Cotto. Trinidad is right.

Surprise, surprise. Hater Boy found a new thing to trash Canelo about on his daily Canelo hate thread. The professional odds makers think Canelo throws enough punches to beat Cotto because they have Canelo a 2 to 1 favorite to beat Cotto. Incase you don't understand, Canelo is the FAVORITE to beat Cotto. Cotto is the UNDERDOG. Canelo throws enough punches to get the job done. If he thinks he needs to throw more punches per round against Cotto he will do so. Canelo threw over 70 punches per round in the Mosley fight and he can do the same against Cotto. That should be enough punches to blast Cotto into a permanent retirement. Cotto doesn't throw many punches himself, especially in the late rounds. The Cotto fading rounds.
Suprised suprised canelo is favored because most of the money bet is going to be on him. Look at porter broner
Broner was a big favorite an lost

My only counter to that is, who's really hit him? Lara ran away, not canelos fault. Trout, Angulo, Kirkland=no challenge at this point. Once Kirkland got hit, his punches had no steam on them, and Angulo was dead. I think it's safe to say cotto is the best puncher he has faced. I'm interested to see how he reacts to his shots. That being said, I know nelo can hurt cotto. It's a great fight.

Same **** was said when Trinidad fought Vargas lmao. Canelo.is a bum,, he beat Kirkland without Ann Wolfe, and was beaten by Lara but Lara was robbed,,, ginger bread man is a hype job,,, he can only hit stationary targets like el perro,,, cotto is gonna show his ***** ass good footwork and have canelo.tripping over his own feet before he gets ko'ed. Here's the thing. Canelo is a tactical sharp fighter, so is Cotto. But Canelo has reach and throws straight hard punches. He reminds me of Fernando Vargas. But anyways, Canelo is going to wait and time Cotto as he tries to mount an offense. Canelo will sustain pressure whilst staying in a safe range. Cotto is going to have to dip, move and dynamically attack working around Canelos offense. I just think once Canelo starts ripping shots on his face, Cotto will begin to break and become less and less affective.
If canelo is tentative in this fight he will be embarrassed like he was vs. Floyd. He can be outboxed and might look foolish and get hurt. Re-watch his fight with Gomez then add power.
This stat is BS! Since the Mayweather fight, Canelo has been on a mission. One of his new approaches was to throw more punches per round. He has been doing that WELL. You guys are trying to minimize him as a fighter with threads like this and threads saying he's over-rated. Ask yourself this; can Cotto beat Lara and have him running? Can Floyd beat Lara? Size negates skill and that is on Canelo's side as well as other attributes. He is a very accurate puncher who doesn't waste much. He is also an A Level defensive fighter. He's hard to catch clean. Cotto is getting KO'ed. He doesn't have to out-work Cotto. His size will eventually break Cotto down. On top of that, he's about to PEAK in this fight. His prime begins with this fight. He's faster than Cotto, bigger, and stronger as well. Cotto is passing the torch come November.

And he still winning. Holy ****. No one outside of Floyd has been able to solve the Saulvinchi Code. Cotto will be no different. He's no Floyd. His face loves to eat leather. :sombrero:
Lol...cotto is goons go down trying to solve the saulvinchi code
The one thing that always bugged me about Canelo was his low activity. I've seen him go rounds with guys doing next to nothing, only to blow them out when he starts opening up.
I disagree that it will be an issue with Cotto, though. Cotto at his best will be using movement and jabbing a lot against Canelo, but when it comes down to it, he is does not have the awkward style, movement and counter-punching to frustrate Canelo the way his last three opponents have. When it comes to trades, Cotto can be hit, and he will get the worst of it against Canelo.
