Cotto set to make 30 million, Canelo 10 million

All the final creases in negotiations for Miguel Cotto vs Saul Alvarez have been ironed out, and it has now been announced the earnings – not including Pay-Per-View numbers – for both boxers. The WBC Middleweight champion of the world Miguel Cotto is set to earn a whopping $30million, while ‘Canelo’ will fight for a third of that at $10million. It won’t be Saul’s biggest payday – he earned $12million for fighting Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather – but given his relative underdog status against Mayweather, this is his biggest opportunity. A win for Alvarez will skyrocket the Mexican into even more contests of this magnitude, but with more dollar in his pocket. Beyond Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao this is the biggest contest of the year, a re-ignition of the traditional Mexico vs Puerto Rico rivalry inside the ring. The contest takes place at Mandaley Bay on November 21st on HBO PPV, with the full undercard yet to be announced.

I dont think this is entirely accurate. When they mention $30mil, I think its safe to say that he has the POTENTIAL to make $30mil depending on the number of PPV buys. It's not a guaranteed purse. Bro I guarentee it

Cotto deserves to be hailed for having taken the challenge against Martinez. He learned a lot since Mayweather's fight, especially the diva thing, and it works for him.

These figures were already denied by both sides. Not sure why people are spreading rumors around based on a report which first appeared on a website in Nicaragua. lol had no idea these rumors surfaced from Nicaragua haha

Wait his turn???? Martinez should have fought him and Cotto should have fought him. That's all he does is wait his turn for pretend middleweight champs to fight him while he knocks out the middleweights with the balls to fight him. If he beats Lemieux he is supposed to get the winner of Cotto vs Canelo but Cotto will never fight him and that's a proven fact by now. Canelo will fight him if he wins and keeps the title and he'll fight him at 160, not at some Cotto weight. Canelo would probably lose but he wouldn't chicken out. Cotto and gigi signed a deal before this fight was made.

I have to disagree. The only boxers that are making this type of money would be PAC and Mayweather. No other boxer is even making close to their figures. Who is making this stuff up? While cotto will probably have a great pay day who is going to pay him 30 million? We will with our ppv buys. Everyone on this site will be wAtchin. Lest not forget cotto new promotional deals that roc hooked him up with. Cotto is straight. He's the #3 drAw and earner. Deservingly so

The only way we will know for sure how much each fighter is getting is to look at the contracts submitted to the NSAC. Since the contracts haven't been submitted yet, this blog post is nothing more than an unsubstantiated rumor that people on this site will choose to believe or not to believe, depending on who they favor. The only things I believe about this fight and situation is that 1) Cotto will KO Alvarez; and 2) we will see Mayweather/Cotto II in May 2016. If both those Happen I will green you to death. Be sure to remind me.

I like how people use this to some how make fun of Canelo lol I dont know what world they live in where they think making fun of a 25 year old that is making 10 million is funny lol. But to put things is prospect @ 25 cotto wasnt even close to making a million dollars yet for a fight. No sh it. Cotto was with top rank. That's why floyd and cotto bounce on those scam artists. Too bad Verdejo got bamboozled to sign with them. 600k is a hell of a motivator. As soon as both floyd and cotto dispensed with top rank they started raking in mills. Literally.
