3 of the best fights on the boxing calendar right now all involve GBP:
Matthysse/Postol
Golovkin/Lemieux
Canelo/Cotto
After it appeared GBP was left for the dead after it lost 95% of it's roster, the company has bounced back and is putting together some great fights for the fans to close the year.
I don't have a side in this boxing cold war. I'm just a fan that wants to see the best fights getting made and Oscar De La Hoya is doing just that.
Gotta give the fishnet wearing coke head props where it's due.
Let's face it. Oscar is a boxer. Haymon is not. Hoya is impatient and want to see huge fights without all these stupid marination stuff. He's also working with Hopkins, who is another boxer. They want to see huge fights right away.
I disagree because Top Rank is not doing that. Terrence Crawford fought nobody this year and Bradley vs Rios is a God awful fight and I'm glad HBO didn't overpay for it.
rios bradley is a pretty solid matchup, 2 big named guys who have had a lot of great fights. No catchweights, two of the guys in the division, obv. Bradley is better but Rios can be pretty dangerous and stylistically due to the way Bradley sometimes likes to brawl it out this would be a great fight

ya top rank is falling behind no doubt about it. arum has gotten a pass for putting his fighters in weak
ur missing the point my point is the reason these promoters are going all out balls to the wall with these fights is they have to compete with haymon. u really think gbp is risking everything because they want to? these promoters like gbp and top rank are fighting for air space they are going to have to put the best of the best fights on that my point its not a division thread its just the reality that even if u hate pbc ur forgetting its making promotions like gbp better

Even if Lemieux, Canelo or Matthyse loses, putting fighters with big names motivates them, but also sells them in the future. We need more of this.
GBP actually has made some great match ups

They're fighting for "air space" on HBO because Haymon has taken SHO off the table.
This ain't even about PBC bruh. This is giving credit to a promoter that helped put together 3 great fights. Why does it always have to be a line of divide?
Giving props isn't hating on the other side. I don't care whose name is on the marketing materials.

I know what you mean but depends. Let's say Matthysse and Lemeiux lose. Matthysse is getting old and who knows if he would continue fighting. Then you have Lemeiux fighting GGG. He could brutally be stopped. How will he come back if he gets hurt badly?
But of course theres also the chance of those 2 winning as well. Which would make them even bigger names thus further helping GBP.
Matthysse just signed a reported 5-year extension with GBP back in January, so I don't know how likely it is that Postol would be his last fight, win or lose.
How is Canelo the money guy when cotto is making 3 times more than him.
I get the point you are trying too make, but let's say canelo gets stopped by cotto.
You think canelo remains the "money man" ?
And I'm just playing devils advocate. I got canelo for the win November 21
Cotto was stopped 2x and is still the money man.
Besides my point is getting lost. I'm giving props for a promoter getting 3 great fights done. Not cheerleading for the success of his business plan.
As long as Golden Boy is making fights, there will be HBO dates available.
Frankie Gomez had a great opportunity under Canelo-Kirkland, but he wasted it. Maybe others won't.
Sadam Ali may well fight on the Golovkin-Lemieux undercard, with a win, perhaps a WBO title fight sometime next year.
Tureano Johnson is fighting on the Golovkin-Lemieux undercard, with a win, perhaps a fight with the wniner sometime next year.
Antonio Orozco has a fight scheduled against Humberto Soto, and the winner will likely be back on HBO next year.
Manuel Avila looks good enough to be on HBO in the not too distant future.
Diego De La Hoya hasn't even fought a scheduled 10-rounder yet, so you're a little early with the HBO talk.
I would just go back to my first point, as long as they have Canelo they will get their share of HBO dates. The question is, is that enough to get eyeballs on their guys to create a new crop.
I like Diego as a prospect and have thought highly of him for a while now so it is getting close to time where HBO would start to be interested. Ali is really their next guy that is close and HBO will probably like him as long as he is a co-feature (for a couple more fights anyway).
That is a lot of guys (and they have prospects beyond these cats) for a limited number of dates though which was really the point. They seem to have an internet deal to stream stuff which is a different type of outlet and can get some eyeballs but is that enough to really build a new crop of stars right now.
And he still has 3 HBO dates while Top Rank couldn't even squeeze Bradley vs Rios into the budget? Why is that? Because he's makiy intriguing fights.
They have HBO which has been building stars for multiple decades.
No it's not. Canelo already lost once, many think he's lost twice and he's still a draw. Cotto got battered twice and lost to Austin Trout and he's still headlining ppvs.
He doesn't need opponents for Canelo. Everybody wants to fight him and will flock towards his weight neighborhood once Floyd retires. Porter, Bradley, Thurman and everybody on Haymon's roster from 147-160 would jump at that fight.
Boxing is driven by stars and right now, Oscar has the money guy.

I could certainly see 2-3 of them losing, but they're all exciting fighters, and losses don't hurt fighters nearly as much if theyre willing to take tough fights and they're exciting.
Marthysse-Provodnikov was one of the most anticipated fights this year and they've both had their losses.

I wouldn't celebrate just yet. Not that Im hoping for GBP's demise or anything but if, lets say, 2 of those guys lose then what?

TV dates on a major network, sure he has some HBO dates but really how much are they trying to have Sadam Ali or Diego De La Hoya on their airwaves.

It's not like he has a choice. That is the only way he will get TV time after leaving showtime and the PBC taking over cable.
What happens if all his guys lose though?
It's crazy.
-You give Haymon props, Pac, Canelo and GGG fans start whining and call you a Haymon worshipper
-You give Oscar props, the Pac, Canelo and GGG fans cosign you and the PBC fans get defensive
So much network and promoter cheerleading going on
