Honestly, do we believe GGG team would take the fight right away with a potential Cotto or Canelo fight possible early next year that would be WAY more lucrative?
I think it's all posturing at this point. Not saying GGG won't fight Ward in the future because I don't think boxers are "scared" to fight other guys but it doesn't make sense for GGG to fight him now and risk a much bigger and let's be honest way more winnable fight against Cotto/Canelo.
GGG star is shining at the moment and unfortunately for Ward he's kind of an unknown to casual fans because of his absence from the ring in recent years despite his great talent.
This will be a great fight, when the time is right, which is not right now.
no...fight would not happen...gggs people are afraid of what a loss would do to his "brand"
Is that the same for Ward on why he never wanted to fight in England against Froch, sure seems so.
Pity Ward doesn't rate himself as much as people on here do, he had no problem fighting weight drained Chad Dawson but he doesn't want to cut a measly 4lbs, I mean this is suppose to be the second best fighter in the world...
The only thing with it is, Floyd Mayweather has the right to make demands whereas Ward is a nobody and GGG has more pulling power to his name than Ward does
1.3 million >>>> 300k
IDK anymore if I want to see Ward. He ust pulled 300k I believe his last fight. That's not enough. He isn't on Gennadys level. Gennady is a PPV star now and needs to fight elite stars not some bums without credentials who fight on BET TV. So nah, he needs to work and step his numbers up for a shot at Gennady.
another stupid post from the king of dumb. PPV star? How many PPVs has ggg headlined? Elite stars? Ward is exactly the type fighters ggg needs to start fighting.
Here's the real deal, when team ggg had the chance to put him in boxings drivers seat (Ward fight), they imposed a catch weight that Ward couldn't possibly make and killed the fight. At 33, ggg has yet to face even one credible opponent. Lemieux is a step up, but not the huge step ggg needs to make. Tic toc.
We all need to put a Ward/ggg fight to rest. If team ggg thought he could beat Ward this fight would have gotten made, problem is they don't believe ggg can beat Ward
Have you been following this? Golovkin never called out Ward during his litigation, just the opposite. Ward sent the email to HBO to be read after Golovkin's fight where he said "anywhere, anyplace, and anytime", then immediately after his contract dispute ends he says he needs 3 tune-ups and takes the first at 172lbs. What's funnier is Ward wants Golovkin to jump straight to 168, but says he needs a few fights at 175 before Kovalev
If Ward decides to go up to 175, he says a fight with Kovalev is an obvious scenario. It's possible. When I eventually get to 175 and I'm a full-fledged light heavyweight...of course at the right time that's the fight that I want. You can't come to a guy's weight class and at some point in time not want to fight the best in that division, that goes without saying.

Ward counted the proposed match-ups with Froch/Chavez @168 as fights that actually happened lol
Ward is hardly a big name in the sport today. Absolutely no point in the fight until Golovkin is ready to move to 168 permanently.
I doubt Golovkin moves up to 168 beyond an occasional fight if ever. He's filled out and comfortable at 160. His reported rehydration weights have been 168 (Proksa), 170 (Macklin), 173 (Rubio), 170 (Monroe). But most importantly there are bigger future fights at 160lbs than 168lbs. After Lemieux & Lee, there's young talent in Alvarez, Eubank, Magomedov, Khytrov, Derevyanchenko, Murata, Wade, Charlo, J-Rock, and maybe even Spence.
When George Groves sparred with Golovkin last year:
"I think Gennady can lose a bit more weight because he is so comfortable at middleweight. I don't think he's the biggest middleweight out there. He's in shape; he boxes so regularly he is always in shape."

As a fan of both fighters, I wouldnt even want to see this fight take place at 164. Even if GGG were to blast him out he'd get no credit.
At this point, Ward/Kovalev looks like the more probable fight as they are only 3lbs away from where they each last fought.
No. 164 was offered because they knew there was a 0% chance he would accept it.
It's a brilliant chess move by a savvy businessman to give his groupies some ammunition.
I don't even think Ward would take the fight right away at 168, never mind Golovkin. I expect Ward to want/need another tune-up.
Actions speak louder than words. Let's be clear about Ward, apart from the contractually bound Super 6 tournament, his best opponents have been:
Shot Miranda
168 Dawson
Rodriguez
Paul Smith
Since the Super 6, he has requested HBO to fight other sub-par comp such as the likes of Kashtanov, Truax and Sartison while turning down fights with Bute, Stevenson and road fights with Kessler & Froch and calling DeGale & Dirrell a step backwards.
Forgive me if I question his sincerity with regards to a fight with Golovkin.
Ward was saying he needed tune-ups before facing a live opponent. Then, just as Loeffler and Oscar are about to close the deal for a unification fight between GGG and Lemieux, Andre suddenly changes his mind and says he wants to fight GGG next.
You would have to be very naive not to spot the connection there. Or very biased to try and pretend there is no connection.
To me, it's as clear as day that Ward only said he wanted to fight GGG this fall because he knew there was no chance of it happening.
Andre is very talented but also very cautious and risk averse. If he can carry on making money fighting guys like Paul Smith, I think he'll be quite happy to do that for the rest of his career.
Imo, he will never fight Kovalev and will probably find a reason not to fight GGG at 168, when the time comes.
Just rewatched Ward-Kessler. This was not boxing. Leading with a head on multiple occasions INTENTIONALLY. Ward is a VERY dirty fighter when the stakes are high. Kova better watch out for these billy-goat charges.

lol apart from the super 6 wtf , GGG dont have a super 1 lol , thats the point GGG has fought nobody .

Ward was stripped of his lineal title by RING Magazine. Ward would want the lion's share of the purse and Golovkin would have a much better payday fighting the winner of Cotto - Canelo in any case. Ward is no longer one of the best fighters out there. He has to get a few fights under his belt again against top 5 contenders before anyone can make that claim. Finally, Ward could not even sell out his home arena even with the aid of giving away free tickets and had to settle for a time buy on BET to get his fight aired.
Ward is hardly a big name in the sport today. Absolutely no point in the fight until Golovkin is ready to move to 168 permanently.
Oh ok I get it. Nothing having to do with legacy, but money. Ward is one of the best fighters out there. If you don't want to recognize it and think he needs more fights to prove it then ok, but the consensus among boxing pundits is that although he maybe boring, he's still a P4P fighter. I honestly don't really care about how much someone sells, I care about the best fighters fighting the best opposition. Seems that is lost amongst a lot of "boxing fans" on this site, which is a shame.
Of course it would have. Yeah the Cotto/Canelo winner is a much bigger gig, but GGG could still take that after the Ward fight. In a perfect world GGG has Sturm, Martinez, Quillin and Cotto on his resume. Ward has Andre Dirrell, DeGale and Froch rematch in the UK. Linear SMW vs linear MW, either halfway or at 168. But those guys ducked GGG and Ward had his legal troubles. So it's a MW title holder vs a former elite SMW who doesn't have a title and whose 2 biggest wins have since retired.
Ward can either meet GGG halfway now, fight DeGale and reestablish his SMW throne, or move up and fight Kovalev or Stevenson. My guess is he'll continue to try and drag an inexperienced MW up to SMW for mediocre money, while fighting Smith level no-hopers. Which will be a damn shame.

Look, you're not fooling anyone and I don't even thinkyou believe 10% of what you say. You like to ankle bite and talk shyt about fights that won't happen. To bad Genady won't sack up and fight Andre. You guys that hide behind words you don't believe are conveniently alleviated of the truth for now but it will be a joyous day if your idol decides to take a real fight.
