Floyd and Pernell are victims of their success and the only thing holding them back is their skin color. Amazing that they dedicate their lives to a craft that can leave them incapacitated and people still look at them as if they've done nothing but bottom feed with top skill sets like Joe Calzaghe. You see what you want to see. Whitaker was very respected. He is the best defensive fighter I've ever seen. Bangers get more love. It's true. Tyson was loved in a way that Floyd, for instance, never was. But Mayweather has accomplished more. Re Calzaghe. I don't think he has many fans outside of Britain. Calslappy is not a term of endearment. I think more people liked Trinidad than Hopkins because Trinidad was a banger (and Hopkins slipped and countered). And guess what? They were both black. (Race and culture/language are not the same thing.)

Both Pernell and Floyd weren't entertaining to watch. Defense first fighters are never crowd favorites. It's no surprise they aren't beloved. I respect both, but they're like the San Antonio Spurs to me. Very successful, but so methodical that it can get boring.

Floyd gets a lot of hate because he beat up a woman and his "money" persona. I respect him as a boxer, though.

everybody likes whitaker, for the most part and he is highly rated. IDK about during his reign back in the day. people usually ***** a lot during a fighters reign but after they retire and some years passed everyone forgets all of that. Look at lennox and vitali, *****ing about lennox holding too much and his chin, *****ing about vitali being robotick, now that theyre retired nobody says that **** anymore and rates them highly. RJJ was a once in a generation fighter. Explosive, entertaining, just an all round excellent fighter. I loved watching him because he ignored all the boxing fundamentals yet still went out there and dominated. Problems I have with Roy is how during his prime years when he had a lucrative HBO contract, he fought some really weak opposition. There was a point where he fought a string of civil service workers. A police man, a sanitation worker, and even a substitute teacher. WTF was that about? LOL. I loved watching RJJ but he also turned many casuals off with his brash arrogant persona. This is the exact concern I complained about with canelo/Kirkland and kov/mohammedi and GGG's resume since signing to HBO.
