Like if Floyd chooses someone like Berto or Mayfield, I'm pretty sure the PPV buys for that fight would be low and less money would be made.
So would Floyd take a bigger name to increase PPV Buys for his next fight?
I mean, if Floyd picks freaking Berto or Mayfield (guys who I never heard of until now) there's no way in hell that I'm gonna pay a PPV for that.
You know Floyd is going to fight Post #49 due to several reasons.
1) The new mgm grand arena will be completed in 2016, which he has invested his money in, and will have a grand opening in May of that year.
2) He's going to break not only Rocky Marciano's boxing record but he will be set to make another record pay day.
He may very well end up fighting in September. Admittedly I'm being the oddball predicting otherwise.
Floyd would book that arena because he can. It is no exaggeration to say he is the king of boxing in Las Vegas. And it wouldn't bother his conscience one little bit if he screwed over Golden Boy or Roc Nation and changed his mind. Yes, I think he would do it for kicks. I know that Floyd has cut it close before, but we're almost at the drop dead point for announcing a PPV for that date.
Mayweather is a very wealthy man now. He can pretty much fight who and when he likes. And once again my gut feeling is that he'll wait until next year (although the Top Rank lawsuit probably makes May-Pac II a no go for then).
I think you're crazy :lol1:
I'll message you when it's announced Scott :lol1: Which my guess will be this week.
Yes of which he had to split with hbo and manny. Lest not forget the few fights he had before many which didn't do as hot. Beside canelo and pac the ppv numbes weren't stellar. I cant imagine 2 fights making up for 4 of the six fight deal. But who knows you may very well be right.
Even if you split it 50/50, Showtime, in essence, got to take their full fee off of a fight that did ~$200m in PPV revenue (their share of Mayweather-Pacquiao), after taking their fee off of a fight that did $150m in PPV revenue (vs Alvarez), two fights that did ~$70m (vsMaidana I/II), and a fight that did ~$60m (vs Guerrero).
Over the course of 6 fights where they locked themselves in to paying out at least $250m, Floyd Mayweather Jr has been able to generate (once everything is counted) ~$600m in PPV revenue over just the five PPV fights. Even after the distributors take their share, you're still talking about Floyd Mayweather Jr already bringing in the $250m (covering Showtime's guarantee) with another PPV event to go (which could do $50m in PPV revenue for Mayweather vs 147lb )
Showtime has already made $40m-$50m off of their share of the PPV events, have already covered, in essence, their full liabilty to Mayweather, have another event to go, and that's not even counting all of the other residual benefits (more folks picking up Showtime to follow Mayweather, leveraging the Mayweather name into building CBS/Showtime's boxing franchise, etc).
that's a interesting point. I don't think cotto cares about the date but canelo does.
I could see Floyd doing something like that, just to show who's the boss.
if Floyd doesn't announce an opponent by next week, there is no way cotto/canelo happens in September.
they gon need time to promote that fight.
Some may have forgotten that the negotiations for the Canelo-Cotto fight fell apart at the end of last year. It is apparent that both sides have big egos and nobody is going to rush either of them into accepting a deal they aren't satisfied with. I'm sure Canelo wanted to fight on Mexican Independence day, but for the second biggest payday of his career he'll be more patient. None of us know what is really happening behind the scenes, but it seems that they haven't even agreed on a venue or a purse split yet. And if that's true they still have a ways to go.

There is absolutely no question that they would aim for that date if Mayweather wasn't confirmed for that date. They aren't even considering it because Mayweather is confirmed for that date.
Why would he book the MGM Grand for one of the biggest dates for Boxing in the year just to cancel it?
He said before the fight he's fighting in September, he said immediately after the fight he's fighting in September he said in the post fight press conference he's fighting in September he's said in multiple Interviewd since that he's fighting in September he's booked the MGM Grand for 12th September, how more obvious can it be that he's fighting in September?
Or is he just doing all that for kicks?

Since Canelo-Cotto would be promoted by entirely different people, it makes sense to remove the Floyd factor to make negotiations easier. It is already been a tricky fight to put together (and still unmade), so why add the pressure of a September deadline that would have to be scrapped if Floyd does fight.
Booking the MGM is no big deal. Haymon is a known venue squatter and Mayweather has made so much money for MGM that they won't even blink if he decides to cancel until next year.

And you would still be foolish to think so.
If Mayweather hadn't already literally booked MGM Grand for September 12th, it would still be obvious he's fighting on that date due to the fact Canelo and Cotto have succumbed to taking a November date instead of that date so they don't have to compete with Mayweather's card.

Greedy or not, I think its safe to say that all people like and want more money. Shotime is not writing another 32 million check for nothing. After all they have shareholders to answer too.
Showtime is paying regardless for this fight, their response would come after when it is time for the bidding on 50 whether they stay (or at least try) in the Floyd Mayweather business or get out. Floyd doing better in his last fight is obviously more advantageous than doing poorly.
Nothing happens in a vacuum.
I'm still saying that Floyd doesn't fight again until May. If he does fight Berto or Mayfield in September, it will be for free on CBS.

Whoever he fights, excluding Golovkin, his next fight will be a massive flop, mark my word. First off, people watch his fights to see him lose. That's a given.
People realized that this guy is never going to lose. They're sick of getting ripped off, the running, the hugging, the mere surviving gameplan. Who's going to see another sh1t like that?
Showtime have to spend truckloads of money on undercards, promotion, expensive tours, multiple press cons here and there. Man, it will be hard.
Floyd doesn't make any decisions. Haymon makes all of Floyd's decisions. Haymon will pick an opponent that's best financial wise. To me Khan is the only opponent that will sell becuz of is UK and Middle East backing. If there was a hot Latin fighter at Floyd's weight Haymon would have choose him.

floyd IS mayfield...you big dummy. you think floyd mayfield is gonna fight himself in a ppv?
I am sure it does because Floyd is greedy and greedy people can never have enough. So what he made last time out is irrelevant to someone like that, he will still want the maximum amount next time out.

I think after doing 4.4 million just 2 months ago he gets a pass on this one man, plus since they will hype it as his last fight he will do 600-700k regardless who he fights

Floyd is guaranteed $30m-$35m for that final fight, regardless of whom it is; Floyd already delivering a massive buyrate for the Canelo fight and a super massive buyrate for the Pacquiao fight likely has Showtime in a position that they'd accept whomever Floyd wanted to fight.
Still, if Floyd sticks to his word, this is his last opportunity to cash out as a fighter and seeking the biggest cash out is generally seen as his m.o.
For those reasons alone, I think that Berto and Mayfield were names just thrown out as red herrings to the press and I believe that the September fight will be Floyd Mayweather Jr(c) vs Kell Brook(c) for the unified/undisputed welterweight championship of the world.
The US PPV number gets thrown into a frenzy with the domestic media push (Floyd's last fight, chance to formally unify all of the titles at welterweight for the first time, facing off against another big, strong, undefeated young lion with ability, etc), while also selling the fight on PPV in the UK (Matchroom Sport is already planning a massive London show on the same night, likely headlined by James Degale in this situation).
You add the US PPV and UK PPV together, and Floyd has an event that does over $100m-$150m in PPV revenue, let alone the revenue brought in on the live event in Las Vegas and the domestic closed circuit money.
Grab another $60m-$70m on the way out.
I am sure it does because Floyd is greedy and greedy people can never have enough. So what he made last time out is irrelevant to someone like that, he will still want the maximum amount next time out.
Ofcourse it does. Showtime is not gonna take a loss no matter how much the floyd manny fight made. It will still need to be an opponent worthy of decent ppv sales.
You may be right but who knows. If they do go down the Mayweather-Berto line, I hope they put on a Garcia-Matthysse level undercard.
