this interview was from 5 years ago.
basically the interviewer was constantly crying throughout the interview..."why wont you fight shane, why wont you fight pacquiao, why wont you fight cotto, why wont you fight the top guys in your division, why wont you fight margarito, why wont you fight paul williams." blah blah blah...he was saying mayweather was scared to fight these guys.
ok few years pass, Mayweather has beaten
- Shane Mosley
- Victor Ortiz
- Miguel Cotto
- Robert Guerrero (questionable opponent)
- Saul Alvarez
- Marcos Maidana (2x)
- Manny Pacquiao
in my opinion he would have gave margarito a boxing lesson. also he would have beaten paul williams..
mayweather has beaten all of the guys the interviewer wanted him to fight plus alvarez & maidana who are top fighters in the division. plus he beat ortiz right after ortiz came off a big victory over berto.
now people saying mayweather is scared of khan, scared of brook, scared of thurman. this just shows how badly people wanna see him lose.
i think mayweather should do a follow up interview and ask him "who do you want me to fight now...?"
Floyd gets some points for fighting the guys, but he should have fought them years earlier. If you want to use the business defense, i.e. he made the most lucrative maneuvers, fine but making money does take away from the atg worth. Floyd is a prime example of why boxing needs national regulation. Regardless of marketing Floyd has fight one of 3, top 5 contenders, or he should be stripped. If he doesn't within a 6 month period his belt and rank are stripped. No special considerations at all. Fight your way to the top and fight to stay there, or go.
Cotto - So that makes it a wash, no? At that point, Floyd earned the right to decide when and who to fight whether fans like it or not
Hatton - Again, when in history has that happened? And ever if it did, people would still turn around and ***** about the CW. He can't win in some eyes on this one.
Marquez - He was like number 2 p4p at the time so there's some validity to the argument and he gave Manny hell and a KO at the same weight but the fight means little imo for Floyd's legacy.
Margarito - This was all while Floyd was leaving TR. Floyd beats Marg like Mosley minus the KO. Jab to the body, stop his momentum and cause him to reset his feet, overhand right and clinch in close. Wash and repeat while getting hit a lot less. Only hardcore fans and Floyd detractors paraded Marg as some feared fighter.
DLH - I'm lost on this one. Everyone wanted the DLH lottery much like everyone guns for the Mayweather lottery now but the added incentive with Mayweather is to try to give him his first L. He fought DLH with all of conditions to DLH advantage and Floyd employs the same now as he's in a similar position just as SRL did it before them both.
I already answered and you basically are agreeing with me but not saying so. Floyd could have and did what he wanted to. The thing is that Floyd didn't answer the questions asked. He fought them opponents not under the best of circumstances or when the opposition was at their best. You even admitted to that.
Oscar was a money fight against someone who basically was a promoter that had 1 fight in like 3 years prior to Floyd. So its not like Floyd fought the best at their best and at their best division. Just names.
I **** ted on PAC for Algeri
Rios was a tough choice because h just got knocked the fawk out
No matter how you slice and dice it, Rios was never a tough choice.
Cotto - That is my point. Wanted Cotto when he wasn't ready but didn't want to fight him when it should have been made.
Hatton - Sorry but they could have met at a CW. The point is that Hatton was not Hatton at 147.
Marquez - Floyd and his fans called it a legit fight. Some still do and made a poll about it about a year ago.
Margarito - Margarito went up to Floyd and called him out not Arum. Arum did let Margarito sit it out waiting for Floyd but Floyd wanted no part of Margarito.
Mosley - Mosley would have fought Floyd at 135. Floyd had no intentions of moving up to 135.
Oscar - OK if you call it a money fight but this thread is about something else. This thread is that Floyd answered questions but the truth is he didn't answer what was being asked of him. You even partially admitted to that with your post.

As Morales mentioned, Floyd picked all of these fights at the right time, which Floyd has mentioned himself on several occassions.
Cotto - Arum didn't want the Floyd fight for Cotto at 140 when they were both TR because he felt Cotto wasn't ready. I agree the fight should have happened after the Hatton fight but Floyd took a hiatus.
Hatton - Floyd was the P4P and welterweight champion with all the leverage. What fighter goes down in weight to challenge a lesser opponent for their title?
Marquez - fight was a tune up, nothing more nothing less. Styles make fights and regardless of size, Floyd beat JMM 10 out of 10 times and JMM and Nacho know this.
Margarito - Arum created the Margarito boogeyman after Floyd bought out of his contract to leave. There was never any mention of Marg being a threat or opponent until Arum took to the media and built him up.
Mosley - Floyd was calling for that fight when Shane was at 135 but Shane didn't feel he was worth it and chased bigger names and money at Welter. Sounds familiar?
DLH - Money fight.
Cotto - That is my point. Wanted Cotto when he wasn't ready but didn't want to fight him when it should have been made.
Hatton - Sorry but they could have met at a CW. The point is that Hatton was not Hatton at 147.

no he fought cotto after getting knocked out by pac and margarito, and a close controversial decision to clottey. Its quite clear he wasn't the same
and he beat mosley after losing to cotto and a year and a half lay off
And he beat pacqiuao after 6 fn years and a brutal knockout loss to marquez
IF he fought this guys when they should of happened, people wouldn't have an argument.
BS, Cotto was coming off a TKO win over Margarito and he was the champ at 154, the KO to Pacquiao was 3 years before that, when Pacquiao fought Cotto is was a year after he got KOed and cut up by Margarito who had loaded wraps and he was fresh off a knockout dragout with Clottey. He beat Mosley when Mosley was coming off the most impressive win of his career against the "boogeyman" Margarito, he knocked out Margarito and brutalized him, the layoff excuse is lame cuz Floyd always took long layoffs and came back to win, this is not an excuse.
Pacquiao refused to take the test, then he turned down a career high of 40 million (the highest he's ever made at the time was 8 mill), he was claiming he was that holy guy that doesn't fight for money, yet he turned down 40 mill and insisted on 50 50, then Pacquiao reSIGNED a contract with Arum in 2012 knowing that Arum is blocking the fight, if he wanted the fight so bad he wouldn't have done that, he would've given Arum the finger, signed to Golden Boy or Mayweather Promotions for this fight only, and made the fight happen, instead he re signed an exclusive contract, then he got KOed by Marquez, which wasn't Floyd's fault, then he needed a year off and another year to get the confidence back.
Plus Floyd is 1 year older and he slowed down considerably also, time and age apply to Floyd Mayweather too! look how he looked against Maidana, if Floyd was Floyd he would've did Maidana like he did Baldomir. HE beat Pacquiao 9-3 at the age of the 38, which is a HUGE accomplishment, get over it.
Alvarez is by far the best win out of those, great performance from Floyd
Pacquaio, Cotto, Mosely... Floyd obviously waited until they were "business decision opponents" (past it)
Mayweather fought Mosley RIGHT AFTER Mosley destroyed margarito...
Mayweather fought Cotto RIGHT AFTER Cotto destroyed margarito...
When Mayweather fought Pacquiao, they were both a little bit slower.
and No, Margarito and Williams both lose to Mayweather. Margarito's only strength is pressure and chin. those advantages dont apply to mayweather because:
1.) mayweawther doesnt go for the KO
2.) mayweather knows how to move around the ring so the pressure that margarito would apply wouldnt mean sh*t. just watch the maidana/guerrero fight.
some of you still dont get it. pressure and power alone is not going to beat floyd. you are NOT going to knock him out. you need speed, volume and accuracy in order to beat floyd on points. thats why i think khan has a chance to beat him..no he fought cotto after getting knocked out by pac and margarito, and a close controversial decision to clottey. Its quite clear he wasn't the same
and he beat mosley after losing to cotto and a year and a half lay off
And he beat pacqiuao after 6 fn years and a brutal knockout loss to marquez
IF he fought this guys when they should of happened, people wouldn't have an argument.
whats funny that same version of cotto got dismantled by bum ass trout, that same version of mosley went life and death with Cano, That same version of Pacquaio went 12 rounds with Rios, That same version of Ortiz got knocked out lopez, that same version of guerrero got dropped and beat by a construction worker.
Pssh color me unimpressed.
It doesn't matter what happens AFTER the fight, it only matters what the fighters did RIGHt BEFORE the fight.
Floyd uses timing, CWs and other advantages then says, "see, I can beat them".
- Cotto fight should have happened at 147 when Cotto was ready. Floyd said he didn't want to fight Cotto at that point.
- Hatton fight shouldn't have taken place at 147. Floyd fought him at 147.
- Marquez should not have happened since Marquez jumped 3 divisions in a year.
- Margarito fight didn't happen.
- Oscar no longer Oscar. More a promoter by then.
Mosley, Floyd didn't want to fight him until he admits "Mosley is now old".

DLH - Money fight.
Read between the lines, he's implying that Pacquiao slowed down once he started taking random blood and urine testing, I think Pacquiao voluntarily did random blood and urine testing (using his a different protocol than the he did with Mayweather) for the Bradley fight and that's what Mayweather was getting at.
Pacquiao camp were talking the whole time about Floyd Mayweather being shot and him not being able to use his legs anymore, that's what Roach has been saying since Floyd's fight with Cotto in 2012, and Floyd proved him totally wrong in the fight where he was moving like a lightweight. Both were old and both slowed down, but Mayweather unlike Pacquiao, had basics, fundamentals and ability to adjust.
You do not need to read between the lines. Floyd only became interested after he said that "Manny is no longer the same fighter". That is what is important here. No matter what, Floyd didn't want to fight the Manny that he was threatened of. He waited and wanted to fight the Manny 2015 version.
So, just to keep it simple to what this thread is about, Floyd did NOT answer the questions posed years ago.
Too bad Floyd "retired" when the welterweight division looked like this.
http://s10.postimg.org/ixdks1vl5/nstmy.jpg
Cotto's camp didn't want the fight in 2006 along with Arum cuz it was a high risk low reward fight since Floyd wasn't so famous, they started to mention Floyd after his fight with Dela Hoya.
When Mosley was asked about a potential fight in 2006 he said he wanted to take a vacation with his family. The Margarito fight was going to get made but uncle Bob was too greedy and tried to shortchange Floyd, which lead to Floyd to buy out his contract and be on his own, plus Margarito was a cheater so he doesn't matter. Paul Williams was an unkown fighter at the time and when Floyd came back in 2009 he moved up in weight and got KOed.
lol so he fights cotto after 4 years and pac after waiting 5 years and you think thats shutting people up? in any other sport that would be laughable. if a team beats the patriots in 5 years will that prove they are better than the patriots of last year? can't believe some fans are so clueless. floyd obviously waits for explosive fighters to slow down and flat out refuses to fight some like margarito. or in floyd fans minds...he made them eat their words! just took 5 years...of waiting

I said this years ago that if Floyd fights them, it will happen late.
Here is Floyd's own words:
Speaking with FightHype, Mayweather (47-0, 26 knockouts) says that the 36-year-old Filipino boxer Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) has lost a step following his 2012 knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez.
***8220;He may not be the same fighter, but this is a guy that I cannot overlook,***8221;
***8220;Once Alex Ariza left, he's a totally different fighter,***8221; said Mayweather
Here is another interview with Floyd:
"I'm seeing something totally different in Pacquiao," Mayweather said.
Mayweather said he saw a much weaker Pacquiao April 12 in a decision win against Timothy Bradley than the one who stopped Miguel Cotto in the 12th round of a 2009 bout.
"I don't see the same pop in Pacquiao's shots -- me, myself, I don't see the same snap in his shots," Mayweather said before. "He's getting tired and he wasn't getting tired before. So, I mean, I'm seeing something totally different."

Mosley turned down a Mayweather fight at 135. Cotto's team turned the fight down at 140. Pacquaio turned the fight down in 2010. Hatton's team turned down a fight with Mayweather at 140 and twice at 147. I know you are not as stupid as you sound, but you are doing your damnest to make everyone a believer.

u can't back up any of ur statements, how can u criticize a guy whose out of his last 11 opponents 8 where world champions coming off the biggest wins of their careers? Even the weakest 2 names he fought (Ortiz & Guerrero) were ranked #2 and #3 by the ring magazine with Ortiz being a champ and Guerrero being an interim champ and a mandatory, both of which were southpaws too, something that the Pacquiao fans used to prove their dumb theory that Mayweather didn't fight Pacquiao cuz Pacquiao was a southpaw.
How can u NOT criticize Pacquiao for his very low level of opposition, what are his biggest fights since 2008?, drained Dela Hoya, Cotto coming off a devastating TKO loss to Margarito where he got cut up b Margarito's loaded gloves? Ricky Hatton? Margarito coming off a KO loss to Mosley at a catchweight 4 pounds less than the weight he's fighting at? Mosley coming off a near shutout loss to Mayweather and a draw to Mora? Marquez was a good fght, I'll give him that, but he lost, Bradley? not ranked at 147 and moving up in weight? Marquez again, almost 40? KO loss? Rios? not ranked and coming off a loss, Bradley again? not so bad, Algieri?
be impartial, Pacquiao got away with this cuz he's a fan favorite, we all know the bar is set much higher for Floyd Mayweather than it is for Pacquiao, yet people compare the 2 and say they are on the same level. U judge greatness by how well a fighter did compared to others, and in this era Mayweather has surpassed everyone by a BIG margain, and even compared to fighters from the 70s and 80s, he still accomplished more, 25-0 in championship fights, 5 weight classes, 24 lbs, etc....
Floyd will never get credit for manny reasons and a big one is his persona
People love to hate him
I'll agree but don't come at me like u know me
I **** ted on PAC for Algeri
Rios was a tough choice because h just got knocked the fawk out
