Get crafty and fight dirty, make him have to worry about getting hurt every time he clinches.. One illegal tactic for the other, and eye for an eye.
Most likely if you're the one getting excessively clinched, your going to loose either way, so might as well go out swinging.
Get disqualified, so be it, at least you got their attention, and the next guy comes at you wanting to clinch, he knows he's going to get teared up.
Why take a Loss when the guy is being a b!tch, take the DQ and make him look like the b!ch , lol
f@k it, no clincher is going to be safe.
that makes no sense at all. how do you provoke someone to clinch you? whenever anyone gets close to wlad he clinches because wlad has no inside skills or defense and you are blaming it on them? fandom strikes again
well he wasn't provoking him, he was just stumbling face first into his armpit then pretending to fall over before wlad even knew what was going on

All it takes is studying and taking your craft seriously.
i tried telling bhop what kova was gonna do. the first tweet describes what he used for the knockdown
hopkins and his trainer underestimated kova's ability. turned out to be a mistake taking the fight

it takes so much energy to fight a guy clinching you meanwhile he's using 0 energy and the ref might take a point from you
it's easier said than done to just "go crazy on the inside"
About time fans weed out one-dimensional fighters masquerading as slick fighters, my ass. You know the truth, they can't fight in close quarters, thus they clinch, clinch, clinch. People are getting sick of it.
it seemed to me that haye was deliberately provoking wlad into clinching him and then flopping to the floor in a bid to get a point deducted

If you got the size advantage like Wlad, just toss your man down. IIRC Haye stopped clinching after tasting the floor a few times in the first round.
haye was the one clinching? lol! nice eyes there buddy
I agree that fighters should get dirty. I don't condone the act, but if the referee doesn't do his job then they have my seal of approval. That being said, it's the REFEREE'S job to take points away for holding. It's getting ridiculous the direction our sport is taking. It seems that the key for fighting a pressure fighter is to hold him. Not out box him, not counter-punch him but just hold him. Referee's like Kenny Beyless (and no I'm not JUST talking May-Pac, I'm talking May-Maidana + Brook/Porter, etc) should get PUNISHED. If it was up to me, I'd never let them ref a major fight again. Just get another ref. If they **** up then too bad. We don't pay to watch referee's so I'd say they're pretty expendable in that sense. Fighter's only do what they're allowed to do. Don't blame fighters for clinching/holding, blame the referee.

Clinching makes fights unbearable to watch and it needs to stop one way or another.
Its amazing excessive clinching is a real dilemma, enough for threads about it. It is illegal and obviously the referees aren't doing their jobs if at all. Custom reffing has to stop.

If it's that easy then everyone would do it. But when you have someone clinching, leaning on top of you, holding you and getting in punches at the same time, you might need more than dirty tactics to get over that.
Plus, I've noticed in all sports that most of the time they don't issue a warning or foul on the instigator. It's usually on the one who reacts to being fouled that gets punished. So maybe that's in the back of their minds as well.
One thing to do is to reach out to the guy who is about to face a known excessive hugger. Tell him to fight dirty once the hugging starts. Give the mofo a bear hug, lift him up and slam him on the floor. It's just to express frustration when the ref does nothing about it. When nothing is still being done halfway into the fight to stop the hugging, then forget about getting DQ'd. Sucker punch the guy, apply head butts, anything. Such guy should be applauded. I'm sure the audience would be glad to see it. About time.

Not possible when the ref has the excessive clincher's best interest in mind. Such as the case of Kenny Bayless and Fraud Mayweather Jr.
The constant clinching is just painful to watch, especially when you understand what could potentially happen if the fight were allowed to be fought on the inside.
The bottom line is fighters are employing an illegal tactic to avoid possible punishment; it's like turning your back to your opponent or hiding behind the ropes.
I remember when Berto received a point deduction in the 3rd round of the Collazo fight; it turned an ordinary fight into an FOTY candidate. Collazo exploited Berto's lack of inside defense for the remainder of the fight. Berto still won (arguably), but we got to see both fighters dig down deep and fight their asses off.
Fighters with no inside defense would have to develop theirs or risk having it exploited.
Holding cheats like Floyd and Bernard should be disqualified for excessive holding idiot fans today think this is the new slick way of fighting compared to Whitaker or Benetinez
retaliating may help but really depends who you are and who your opponent is. For example, if Floyd is fouling and Maidana retaliates, Maidana automatically gets points deducted. Floyd then gets the fight to go his way plus his opponent is down by at least a point. That is what Floyd is looking for. Then it will actually allow Floyd to do it even more fouling.
On the other hand, if the ref stops the nonsense early in the fight, then we usually have less fouling.
Broner was just excruciating to watch because of all that fouling. It took to long to deduct a point. By that point, the fight is over already and the fans got to see a dud of a fight.
Felix Trinidad was a master at not letting his opponents clinch him. When his opponent would attempt to hold, Tito would dig his left elbow into his opponent's chest, creating distance, and then hit him with a big left hook.
