Shawn is strong, has good stamina. Bulldog type fighter. Similar to Hatton.
Both he and Hatton steamrolled Malignaggi.
Later in his career Hatton seemed to try and space himself more, box a bit. Give himself space at time to rip body shots. Of course his chin wasnt as good as Porters. But man Shawn smothers his own work so much. I really think he needs either a new trainer or better awareness of spacing. If he only took a step back when Broner was trying to grab, time those grabs, couldn have been a different fight.
Thoughts?
What is so similar? Because they both try to get close? Hatton was a very average fighter. Porter is a nightmare for most. Ugly fighter but the guy reminds me of Aaron Pryor. You better get him out of there otherwise he's mauling you all night.
I don't even know if i'd call Porter a poor man's Hatton since Hatton was way better at doing everything then Porter is. As someone said, perhaps physical strength is the only edge I could give to Porter. Hatton was so good at working on the inside without smothering his work. Uppercuts were vicious as heck, and he could maul you on the inside while using his footwork to turn you and reset his whole inside game. Got dang I miss Hatton.
Hatton was more compact, more accurate with his punches and he hit harder too. So, Hatton was better in every way but I guess Porter can be viewed as a cheap replacement.
good way too put it "more compact" thats exactly right.. hatton didn't wing many punches, and usually had good short, hurtful punches, especially on the inside
Hatton was much smoother and not as sloppy.. porter has the better chin
Hatton's hooks to the body and uppercuts were damn near perfect.. Porter does a lot of wide winging shots...
Hatton has dominant wins over tszyu, castillo, pauli.... And was good enough to land mega fights with floyd and manny

Porter has a similar style as Hatton. Who do you feel uses it more effectively? | BoxingScene Community
