PAUL SMITH would love nothing more than to silence the critics who believe he should not be sharing a ring with Andre Ward.
The Liverpool super-middleweight takes on the unbeaten American in the early hours of tomorrow morning in Oakland.
Smith, 32, knows this could be the last big fight of his career but is not concerned he is facing one of the pound-for-pound best.

You must have been praying against Golovkin his entire career
Honestly if Golovkin doesn't get into a big fight soon I will. To me he gets a pass due to his activity and successfully building his brand. His opponents aren't great but he is killing several tough B level fighters a year while looking for bigger fights. That is a good faith effort on his and his management's part for the time being.
Paul Smith must have made some big dough in those Abraham fights to not come in on weight.
I normally root for the underdog and as a bloke who has never had to make weight in his life I don't know about the struggle. But 4 pounds? That is planned and that is trying to steal a competitive advantage or at least it would be if he was a proper 168er never mind a light-heavyweight.
Have money on a Ward stoppage now. He should be far too good for Paul.
The great thing about showcase fights/mismatches are once every blue moon they backfire in shocking fashion. Doubt that will be the case this time but you never know.
I am praying for that to happen every time I see a mismatch lol

The only way Smith will change the opinion of those who question this fight is if he makes it competitive (or if he wins it - but what chance is there of that). So, Paul. it is in your hands. Good luck.
