All the casual/celebrities and maybe some PacFan's was disappointed in Pacquiao's performance.
Pacquiao's stock has taken a big hit that's why they had Max Kellerman try to repair some of the damage on live air, literally BEGGING
Part of Pacquiao PPV Success which gelled well with American Fanbase was that he was a Direct rival to Floyd. Arum built Pacquiao's career Marketing/Mediating to everyone's belief "He is the one to beat Mayweather".
Now he has lost in unanimous fashion, we can agree, even on this site alone. Majority of everyone's belief is that he can't beat Mayweather. That's a big hit Arums Marketing Plan.
How will he market him now? ...
Arum's Agenda of injury, weather its real or not help's re-market Pacquiao for more fights not involving Mayweather. As he will try to build up Pacquiao again with wins over Algeri/Vargas caliber opponents. To bring back the belief again that "He is the one to beat Mayweather".
I personally think this time, the Media, Boxfans, and casual/public opinion wont fall for it. Along with the Shoulder fiasco Pacquiao has gained some Hater's.
Pacquiao would have to fight a risky fight next with some one new. Realistically possibly on the table is " Brook, Provod or Matthysse " otherwise I don't see it as doing over 400k buys at PPV.
He will always have his huge following no matter what. But that's clearly not enough for HBO as his lasts PPV Numbers with Algeri/Bradley II was real low. Imagine what his next one will be after this huge disappointment.
HBO clearly probably deciding to make Cinnamon-Boy as their New Number 1, Mexico is behind him with full force after Chavez Flop.
I agree with your comment about Macau. I think that audience still believes in Manny. I think a decent segment of the US public will not support another Manny fight after the way he didn't come to fight.
BUT-if Manny were to return on regular HBO in a really tough fight and win it, I think he could restore some of the fans, kind of like how Duran beating Davey Moore made up for No Mas with a lot of fans.
I think that'd work if Manny was younger but I don't think he can risk another loss especially back to back. Very Soft touch for his comeback fight.
My thing is those 200-300k fans of Manny that buy his PPVs will most likely still support him and I think that's a reason why TR Went into overdrive so quickly with the injury excuse and PR campaign to discredit the win , to keep those fans believing that Pac could have had a shot and he's still try and remain relevant
but Do you think Arum risks putting him in tough fight and one that's outside of his stable ? ,I wish that was the case I just can't see it.
Didn't Manny's last Macau fight not even sell out and people left after the Shiming fight?
I was at the fight and it wasn't a sellout but I'd say damn near probably 95% capacity , all the empty seats were in the lower bowl but they were going for 750 -2500 a pop.
Zou got some loud cheers but when he fought it was like 50-60% full but the crowd came for Manny it was his show
Agreed.
Pacquiao-Bradley III? That...would be insane.\
But yeah I agree that there is nothing out there for him. If he keeps fighting that means he's not too well off financially because his list of available opponents aren't going to bring him too much coin.
I just wouldn't put it past TR to make this a trilogy and the 2 previous PPVs did ok #s. Don't think its a fight many want to see but who else in TR stable can make a claim to fight Pac next ?
The only way to sell him is to put him in with guys who are aggressive. Put him in With Provodnikov, Matthysse, Maidana, even Canelo or GGG AT 154. He would probably lose the last two, but when healthy he would bomb with those guys. Don't put him in with Boxer-mover-runnertypes. You could host all these fights except Canelo in Macau.
GGG fights at 160, Manny is a midget at 147...
If I were Arum, I wouldn't take Manny to Macau for his next fight...he'd lose out on more fan base that way. Manny needs to show that he's exciting & he needs to do that in the US, he's already talking about retirement...pair him up with Crawford..or Matthysse should be fireworks like Malignaggi said.
Arum would be absolutely stoopid to take Manny to Macau next.

Yep. Remember when Floyd said it didn't hit 300K buys? So one side said it did under 300K while Arum was shouting 475K. Safe to say it was a PPV flop as well.

I think Pac still has 1 more fight in Macau and he has a large built in fanbase.
I think that the winner of Vargas / Bradley is next in line , if Vargas can pull off the upset he gets a 1st class flight to Macau ( Predicted this fight in December , still sticking with it ). If Bradley wins would anyone be suprised if this match up gets recycled again probably not in Macau though.
TR probably want a piece of the action from both fighters and would want one of their guys to be the guy to potentially beat Pac so I don't think they'll let someone out of their stable ( Matthysse , ,Garcia , Maidana , Brook ) fight him and Crawford I think they want to season more before he Fights Pac so I don't think he gets next
Just my guess

He's been feed low risk since his knock out loss thats why Floyd fought him he sense he was wash up and added the list of wash up fighters to his list. Floyd is like the king of fighting wash up fighters he will go into the Hall of Fame as the only fighter to have a large list of fighting wash up fighters and blown up lightweights and jr wellters
Stick to the topic and get off Floyd's d*ck.
Pacquiao will be brought back against low risk opponents for a couple of fights and then fed to Arums next big thing Crawford.

Manny is done. if he fight's again it will be against B class fighters. I for one wold NEVER pay for another PPV with him or Mayweather regardless of the oppponent. Boxing is dying because of all the titles and the new thing of over the hill fighters being billed as super fighters. It's so easy now to get a title , you're now seeing fighters with 2-1 records fighting and winning titles for crying out loud because there is so many of them . First they increased the amount of weight divisions and now you have every promoter controlling world title belts We now have WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF ect...... and lets not forget about Super champions and Diamond champions. Mayweather is a good fighter for this era, a top 10 fighter at best if he came up in the 70-80's era. Can you picture him having to fight fighters in there prime such as Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard, ha ha ha not a chance!
Ah yes the boxing is dying post. I haven't read this before!
I really don't know how they put Manny back on PPV at this point, barring a really big name opponent. And I don't even know who that would be, to be honest. It sure ain't Lucas Matthysse. Or even Terence Crawford for that matter. And if they try to do a Brandon Rios/Chris Algieri level opponent and put it in Macau, the PPV numbers would be laughable. The numbers would be atrocious. As pointed out his numbers were already dwindling in a major way prior to the Floyd fight. If I'm HBO I'm looking at the Floyd fight as Manny's cash out fight. Hell they were lucky as f**k to have even gotten in on that.
If he returns, against the majority of options at this point, it appears to me that it would have to be on regular HBO.
Agreed.

They should. But they won't, which I think is a bad idea.

Honestly it doesn't even matter at this point. He'll be 37 by the time he comes back (and that's if he comes back). He could retire today and regardless for HBO the whole Manny Pacquiao ride was a massive success for them. They ultimately got their share of the Pac/May sweepstakes and Pacquiao (during this era) was far & away the 2nd biggest draw on the planet that the sport had to offer after Floyd. It was a wildly successful partnership no matter how you cut it.
They can hand the torch to Canelo right this second if they want.

I was thinking the same thing. His #'s had dropped significantly prior to May 2nd and now that the gig is up I can't imagine him matching even those. Matthysse is a decent matchup but also a PPV flop. Same with Crawford. He really should retire but I could see him fighting on for money, being reduced to gatekeeper status on regular HBO.
