boxing fan: #1: i think pac won the fight after reviewing it closely.
boxing fan #2: lol noob did you see the compubox numbers? he schooled him!
boxing fan #1: the compubox numbers were wrong, i checked for myself.
boxing fan #2: yea ok well floyd still won.
boxing fan #1: why did floyd win though?
boxing fan #2: because he fought his fight and manny didn't fight his normal fight.
boxing fan #1: what does fight his fight mean?
boxing fan #2: they were fighting in the center of the ring so floyd must be winning. pace, distance, it was floyd's style of fight.
boxing fan #1: what about punches? who was landing the cleaner, harder punches? i saw pac doing that and floyd coming up short, or not landing cleanly. pace and distance should have favored floyd but it didn't so why score it for him?
boxing fan #2: do punches matter? they were in the center of the ring and floyd was doing his thing! manny wasn't doing his normal agro thing.
boxing fan #1: so if they are in center of the ring floyd automatically wins and whoever's landing cleaner doesn't matter?
boxing fan #2: did i mention compubox?
boxing fan #1: yes and i mentioned how it's not accurate.
boxing fan #2: ok but floyd was fighting his fight.
boxing fan #1: i give up
boxing fan #2: and still undefeated!
I don't agree with you that Manny won, I have my reasons and scorecard. But I do wholeheartedly agree with you're interpretation of compubox and the fact that the fight was a competitive chess match (which is big credit to Pacquiao). The commentary was a travesty and I'm not sure how they got it so wrong on such a big occasion, I have repeated this many times since the fight, but after 9 I remember very clearly thinking the fight was close, and the fighters were on a pretty similar level.
I also don't feel it was a poor fight, the best commentary on this fight by far was the one Andre Ward was on. They just called the fight punch by punch, round by and round, they called it how it was, they weren't trying to tell a story.
More and more people are waking up to the fact that it was closer than they initially thought, I also thought it was interesting that Floyd said Manny was better than he expected, which is exactly what I was thinking during the fight.
