real question..
I think so, I mean chepo is cool but it obvious that Canelo isn't learning anything new with him. wasn't he a butcher before he even took over Magdaleno's gym. I don't think he can teach him anything else. and Canelo is still mad young so he still got time to learn some new tricks.
if so, who would you want him to be trained by?
Well then you need glasses. You are sitting there with a straight face saying he's the same fighter as he was a few years back? Absurd...
First off, this claim that he gasses is so over blown. Let me ask you this, have you ever boxed? Have you even sparred? Because anyone who has knows that when a guy jumps on you the way Kirkland did, couple that with the nervous energy EVERY fighter gets, he did fatigue a little.
Then he recovered, and landed some huge shots and won. Again Trout he was moving backwards the whole fight, that takes a lot of stamina. Again Lara he was moving forward the whole fight, that also takes a ton of stamina.
I don't think his stamina issue is as big of a deal as some say. As far as your boxing I.Q, no disrespect, but you don't know as much as you think you do. We don't know what is going on with Canelo in private and I can tell you from what I read, is that the kid is dedicated.
Unlike reports of Chavez Jr. That I can agree on. I think people need to calm down and understand he's all of 24 years of age. You say he's underachieving, I say he's over achieved when you look at his career.
Good for you, I told you what I saw in Canelo you don't have to agree. In fact I am perfectly happy with people like you believing what they do, I don't make money following the crowd.
I make money beating the crowd, so you can go on believing in Caneloland fairy tail where everything tastes like cinnamon I will be doing my thing watching something totally different yet seeing the same fights.
He is a good fighter, this thread is not about his resume or if he is a solid fighter. It is if he needs a new trainer, that is about improvement and reaching his potential. He could be more than he is, I shouldn't even need to saying a thing more that is obvious stuff, but you seem to not get that concept.
He is pretty much the same guy, he didn't learn anything from Trout to Floyd to Lara. Each of those was pretty much the same story. He hasn't figured out that he gases so he needs to put in that extra work to solve that issue. If his trainers can't get his stamina issues straight, then why should I expect them to handle anything relevant with him or for Canelo to really give a **** what they have to say?
I do see a diamond when I see Canelo, if I didn't I wouldn't give two thoughts to him because he wouldn't have it. Since he does have it, the question is how does he maximize it.
The money and success is part of why he needs a new trainer, that stuff normally kills fighters, so why do you think Canelo is different than most fighters. He seems pretty average in that regard.
As for inside track, I follow my eyes in boxing and I have come out ahead for a long time, believe me or don't believe me I don't care but that changes nothing about how I look at Canelo. I won't be the one disappointed in him though~

Well, I'm not saying he won't lose..lol
If you want to say though that he's the same fighter now as he was 2 years ago, then you need to watch more boxing. Canelo has improved a lot, both on defense and offense.
Again, what do you see? You keep talking like you have some inside track and it's the same thing we are all seeing. Just a snippet of his media workouts and not what is really going on in the gym.
Also, he hasn't reached his potential? WTF?!?!? He's 24 years old, made tens of millions of dollars in boxing, already was a champion, and is arguably the biggest name in the sport.
That's a pretty good resume if you ask me at 24.

You are basing what you say on wishful thinking.
I see what I have seen in countless dudes that didn't reach their potential, I see the same in Canelo.
It doesn't matter what they show or don't show, pay attention and you will see all you need.
Do you think he gasses out because he is such a hard worker, for example? His moves in the ring are all derivatives of the same thing, you see improvement I just see more of the same.
He is not going to reach his potential where he is plain and simple, he will lose within two years and will switch trainers anyway. Why not get on with it now?
I am not saying Canelo sucks, I am saying he will never be what he could where he is now.
Well, I'm not saying he won't lose..lol

Emotion? What in the world are you talking about? I'm basing what I said on facts, you are basing on what you "see".
What do you see? You are not there, how in the world can you determine what Canelo or any other fighter does by watching some media workout? Do you even know how boxing works? Do you understand they don't show much on purpose on these shows for very important reasons?
Look, I'm not saying Canelo is the pound for pound best in the game. I'm just saying this talk of him not working hard or him needing another trainer isn't based on any facts. It's based on boxing fans running their mouths and not understanding the way it works.

Because I pay close attention and have watched the same thing play out before.
I can say the same thing to you, why is your white washed version any different from mine. What I am seeing is more inline with general boxing realities, where guys sleeping on silk sheets if they are the boss aren't long for this game.
I am telling you what I see. I could not care less if you agree or disagree, if what I said brought these feelings out of you then you are more emotionally invested in Canelo than I. Listening to someone a bit more removed is usually a good idea.
I am going to hit a lick on Canelo one day, I am just waiting for the right moment. Probably not against Cotto though, I will probably have money on Canelo in that one.

You know this how? So you are telling everyone that because you saw some tiny snippet of what Canelo is doing in his media workouts, that he's not being pushed?
Man, I'm telling you the embarrassingly obvious stupidity in this place never ceases to amaze me. You do realize that you aren't there at 5 am when he's running 8 miles per day. When he's working in the gym 6 days a week, both strength and conditioning, boxing workouts and sparring...
Fans see some 24/7 show about a fighter, and they think they have an insight to what happens in a real boxing gym, 6 days a week. Canelo works hard, you don't win 41 fights against the best jr welters in the world and not train hard.
He has also clearly improved from when he was just 22. His defense is better, his movement is much better and we know the kid can crack.
It's feast or famine in this place. 99% of boxing fans = you are 1 a bum or 2 the best ever. There is absolutely nothing in between.

I just think Canelo needs a new trainer because he needs someone to really push him.
What I see from Canelo in camp is all about comfort and if you are in your comfort zone you aren't pushing yourself, if you aren't pushing yourself you are stagnating, if you are stagnating you are getting worse because there is no staying the same.
I just see Canelo as too much the boss in his camp.

you're absloutely f#cking crazy if yu haven't seen improvement in canelo over the last few years. absolutely f#cking crazy.
You can think that, but Canelo is in his early 20's he should be getting better no matter what.
I think your crazy if you think Canelo is reaching his potential in this situation, but that is not an answer we will have anytime soon.
Canelo is a very good fighter, I never said he wasn't. The question was does he need a new trainer, a trainer is about improvement and I haven't seen that in Canelo at all.
If you aren't improving you may have reached your ceiling overall, but you can't tell that leaving stones unturned. I don't think Canelo is anywhere near as good as he could be.

i don't need to wait two years to know that canelo is a hell of a fighter, and a rich, successful man.
why would you get rid of the guy who taught you how to fight after losing to floyd mayweather, and otherwise being hte best fighter on the planet 24 or under?
canelo is in a great spot. his trainers have done a great job with him. he's a heck of a fighter. why on earth would you want to change trainers?

you guys talk far too idly about jumping trainers. you clearly don't understand what that involves.
reynoso has been training canelo since he was a boy.
canelo lost to floyd freaking mayweather. he was drained of weight 2 lbs 2 boot.
no trainer was going to cut canelo's legs off and sew on muhammad ali's...
I never talk about idly jumping trainers. Canelo is a very specific case.
There comes a point when a fish outgrows the hatchery and it has to go out in the wild.
Do you not see the issues beyond his heavy feet, he is a good boxer (like really good for having such heavy feet) but I haven't seen an ounce of improvement from him in years.
If you aren't getting better you are getting worse. So if a guy is stagnate even if they are still solid they should (but never do) change direction before the situation gets more dire. Everyday those sorts of things become more ingrained in him.
Get back to me in a couple years, we will see who is right.

i dont think so. i mean canelo is what he is and honestly his trainers have formed a killer out of a one dimensional fighter. I think the whole fighter needs a new trainer thing is thrown around to easily
I just think Canelo needs a new trainer because he needs someone to really push him.

Even Freddie "Hollywood" Roach was a telemarketer. Not to mention Angelo Dundee never had an amateur bout.
As for your question, to learn what exactly? Canelo is young, but he has 46 pro fights. It is about muscle memory and repetition not age. If it ain't broke don't fix it. At this point Canelo should stick with it. Can't blame your trainer for getting outclassed by the best fighter of this generation.
green karma.
nobody is going to turn saul alvarez into muhammad ali. his style suits very well his physical attributes. he's a hell of a fighter. he's got a very polished offense and tremendous power.
