The Guardian (UK) newspaper had a superb article on the 5 greatest fights since the year 2000.
and here are the fights:
5) Akira Yaegashi vs Por n sawan Porpramook
4) Erik Morales v Marco Antonio Barrera I
3) Israel Vázquez vs Rafael Márquez III
2) Micky Ward v Arturo Gatti I
1) Diego Corrales v José Luis Castillo I
what do you think?
(I can't post the direct URL link yet cos I don't have 15 posts yet but just go to today's Guardian website to the sport/boxing section.
My list would be like this:
1. Morales/Barrera 1
2. Castillo/Corrales 1
3. Gatti/Ward 1
4. Marquez/Vasquez 3
5. Marquez/Diaz 1 or Bradley/Provodknikov
BTW, 2000-2009 ****s all over 2010-2014
ummmmm........ya?
Sithchatchawal Vs Monshipour.
I saw that fight at the time, as everyone was talking about it. Think i downloaded a French copy from here.
I know it was fun, but i don't remember a great deal about it. Any fans?
I remember that I think. Just kept getting more vicious as the fight went on.
Boxingscene had it as their fight of the year didnt they?

Who was the opponent for Tyson Marquez when he had his ridiculous fight? I can remember they had a red canvas. That was a f*ckin war.
Edit: Concepcion.
Don't go bringing Macklin-Moore up in this thread. Don't you do it.
edit: Just saw your other post :lol1:

I always post this fight in these threads but f*ck it i'm doing it again. One of my all time favourite Uk fights, Jamie Moore vs Matthew Macklin in 2006:
This was the ninth round. The previous rounds were all pretty brutal.
The ko was spectacular too. Amazing that Macklin was able to revive his career and become a decent contender at MW years later.
Cotto/Margarito I has to be in the top 5, tainted or not. It was an absolute war.
One of the best welterweight bouts of the past 25 years. Without question.
P.Willy-Margarito is another underrated war. One of all time favourites as well.
Has anyone mentioned Sergio vs Williams I yet. Another superb fight.
I'm pretty sure the ref did penalize Corrales for spitting out the mouth piece.
Weeks penalised Corrales after the second time he spat. The first time looked accidental to me but the second seemed deliberate by Corrales...
If Corrales had points deducted, what difference would that have made? That was the best fight that I've ever seen.
...but I don't think it would have mattered because I agree with this. It is the greatest fight I have ever seen and my favourite fight of all time. Absolutely beautiful. I only wish I could somehow rewind time, get a ticket and watch it in person.
May of changed his mind set but either way, it should of been penalized.
I'm pretty sure the ref did penalize Corrales for spitting out the mouth piece.
I always thought Shane Mosley vs Oscar 1 was an amazing fight and carried a lot of significance and was by two elite fighters in their prime. It's not too often two fighters THAT good have such a good fight especially with a huge name like Oscar
The other fights were brutal and beautiful though so you cant go wrong.
Others have mentioned toney-jirov and pavlik-taylor and I gotta agree,, those were classic great fights..
Morales-manny 1
Morales-barrera 1
Marquez -manny 1
Casamoyer-katsidis
Arce-Hussien
I like that list.
Morales v Barrera I, Vázquez vs Márquez III, Ward v Gatti I and Corrales vs Castillo I would all be in my top 5.
I'm pretty sure i have Yaegashi vs Porpramook on my computer, but have never got around to watching it.
Great list.
Corrales-Castillo is possibly my favourite fight of all time. Just terrific.
I also truly loved Jirov-Toney, but it rarely gets mentioned.
That fight was nuts. Also check out jirov vs julian letterlough and letterlough vs Julio Gonzalez. Insane fights.
1 castillo corrales
2 marquez-Vasquez 3
3 manny-marquez 4
4 gatti- ward
5 angulo-kirkland
Honorable mentions- vitali-lennox, tito-vargas, Oscar-vargas, cotto-margs,
Excellent list. Oscar vs vargas gets forgotten but that fight was insane, and I still can't believe the end result of the Angulo fight even though I've seen it fifty times. Ill add to that;
Pavlik Taylor
Khan vs Maidana deserves a mention for the high drama and violence on display. The fight deserved a rematch, maybe at 147 in the next year or 3, you never know.
