Just want to get the people's opinion, be honest about it.
I'm just going to get to it.
Here are my Points:
1. IF A fighter gets trapped against the ropes, it should be his job to work his way out again.
2. Clinching every time a fighter traps you against the ropes is cheap exploitation, the REF does the work for you and BAILS you out. It is not his job to bail him out, that is for the fighter.
3. Clinching should only be used when a fighter is visibly hurt.
Basically there's a loop hole that's being exploited.
The way clinching is allowed to be exploited, it removes one of the essential aspects of BOXING, INSIDE FIGHTING. The referee bails out the fighter who clinches, throwing away all the hard work that was done to put him on the ropes by his opponent.
If you re-evaluate, look at how much fighters clinch, 50+ to 80+ a fight????? It's ridiculous!
Want to hear your opinions.
I voted no. If you get clinched and are held, you have two choices. One, you wait for the reff to seperate you from your opponent. Two, you do the Crawford anti-clinch wiggle.
My problem is it's so inconsistent based on the ref, so because of that yeah. Just watch Klitschko to see how badly the rules need to be enforced better. He wins largely because of clinching.
Thats a good point, Wladamir fights nearly turn a complete 180 because of excessive clinching is being allowed by one ref, we nearly saw it against Jennings.
Thats the thing, the ref shouldnt do the fighters job and bail him out every time he's against the ropes and decides to clinch. It should be up to the fighter to get HIMSELF back to the outside.
Floyd clinched appx 13 times in 36 minutes. Wlad clinched appx 96 times in 36 minutes. Some of you guys are unbelievable!!! If it happens excessively, yes, points should be taken away but you guys always have a problem. First you guys talk a whole bunch of crap and then when your hero loses, you guys come up with more and more excuses.
You're a pacfan is the only reason I could think as to why there is a thread about "clinching"/refs bailing fighters out" being a problem
That was excuse #9 on the why pac got whooped list.. You're butt hurt /thread
This has nothing to do with attacking Pac/ floyd/Wlad.
I've been against fighters exploiting the clinch since the beginning.
If you don't bring anything to the table, keep it moving.

I'm glad Floyd didn't clinch a lot in the fight. People are still trying to use it as an excuse but it's not a valid one. It was a clean fight, no elbows and not much clinching. For a reference, Matthysse clinched more in his fight against Provodnikov.

example you're getting rocked. you clinch to prevent being koed.
you sacrifice a point to survive.
like spitting out your mouthpiece so ref stops action.
its the equivalent to making a clinch an automatic point deduction like a head butt. its way too severe.
that makes no sense.

but it will always be inconsistent. different refs ref diffferently. theres little to be done in that regards. wayyyy too many variables at play here.
The only thing I want is if fighters have only one hand tied up, they should be forced to work it out.
If one fighter has his hands free and is hitting, its fair game. Protect yourself at all times.
Granted no arm hooks are locked in they should be allowed to work out, no instant break ups.
"Visibly hurt" is horrible criteria for a sport like boxing.
I was thinking from A referees stand point. Initiating clinch should be acceptable when a fighter is hurt, trying to catch his breath.
nothing wrong with that.
