That is the one thing that stands out about Manny Pacquiao. With all the great foot work he has the guy is pedestrian when it comes to cutting of the ring and everytime he tries it he looks foolish and gets countered. That to me was the a huge problem in his fights with Mayweather.
Amateur Experiences and Olympic Experiences allow for you to see ALL STYLES from the Athletic Americans, to the Highly Skilled and Slick Cubans to the Hard Hitting Eastern Europeans to the Rugged Blue Collard Mexican Fighters. You don't learn how to cut the ring off when your well in your 30's and getting ready to fight a guy that can move. You have to get Comfortable against different styles not avoid them like some of these younger fighters are doing.
People bashing GGG for the Monroe Jr fight but testing himself vs that style to me is very smart!
Itis something you have to get use to doing, you can't do that just fighting flat footed brawlers
It is very hard to cuttoff a ring that is 25ft. Almost impossible, it is so big that there is always an escape route and and the aggressor is always chasing. That is 1 thing Manny should of never capitulated to. Maidana had the same problem in the rematch. A 25ft ring makes it all but impossible to catch a runner.

He wouldn't beat him even if his jab was better. Floyds straight right would trump Mannys jab all night long. That's why he wasn't using it.
Yes. Whenever Pac used his jab, Floyd would pop in his straight right hand. That is the reason Pac did not use his jab.
All of those guys had a size advantage, a jab, inside fighting knowledge, or all of the above(In addition to knowing how to cut off someone's exit route).
He was not gonna beat Mayweather Jr. without a jab, and he's a clean fighter so making the fight rough and dirty wasn't even in the equation.
The reach disadvantage was bothering him too. A southpaw should not get hit with that many jabs, and Mayweather's fail-safe plan to get away from being cornered was to throw a check hook which Manny had no answer for except to be defensive.
His only shot pretty much was to throw a lot of punches and he didn't even do that.
I actually was saying this during the fight. Manny would have had greater success if he would of utilized cutting the ring off. Floyd would get on the ropes, throw a check hook and skate right out. I will admit, I haven't followed manny's career like i wished I had so I can't speak on if he has ever been great at cutting the ring off.
His lack of a jab is what convinced me beforehand that he wasn't going to win this fight. He was even a bit flat footed at times and had no idea how to cut the distance/range. Whenever he had Floyd on the ropes, he would get too close and allow Floyd to hold or just slip away. So even if he was good at cutting the ring off, I still think he would lose handily.
True his jab is also average at best but if he atleast cut off the ring he would have gotten off more fluries of punches and goten a higher out put.

When you look at the few fighters that had any succes against Floyd those guys were Cotto, Castillo, Maidana and in some ways De La Hoya. All are and were great at cuting of the ring.
