Boxing has always thrived when the Heayweights were on top ..Heavy weight boxing has always carried the sport ..There is also no title more prestigious than the Heavy Weight Championship of the World ..Will we ever get back to days where the world just stops and watches who will be the next Heavy Weight Champ ?
For me I hope so !!
Boxing always needs the heavyweight division. Vladimir retiring will be good for the division, and thus boxing as a whole. The Americans already have a belt holder, which is another plus.
I don't think boxing thrives or doesn't thrive depending on the heavyweights being on top. How bad off can boxing be when this fight shattered all records for making money. So the fight was a dud. Lots of heavyweight fights are duds too. We have a good heavyweight champion right now in Wlad. He fights often and fights the very best contenders and he usually ends his fights with a KO. Wlad makes plenty of money every fight. Yes he does too much holding just like Mayweather. None of the heavyweights I've seen are all that exciting. As long as there are lots of good fighters and good fights boxing will do OK regardless of what different weight classes the good fights are in. I think the most exciting fighter today is GGG. I believe he is the next boxing superstar and he will help boxing thrive more than any heavyweight I know of.
Agreed, couldn't have put it better myself
As long as there are great fights boxing will do fine (look at the haggler, hearns, duran, leonard era) - the problem is making the damn fights these days
PS - Vlad is an excellent HW and capable of giving a lot of the ATG's a good fight, yes he may have a boring style but he does what he needs to do to get the W

I don't mind Wlad but I agree when he retires the HW division will give boxing the kick up the arse that it needs. What with Wilder Fury AJ Povetkin and so fighting each other for those belts. Can only be good for the sport.
Lucky for us he is at the tail end of his career
Yh you are right when the one good HW retires
We will be left with cab drivers and sparring partners that in recent years have shown that they are afraid to fight any equally levelled opponent. Instead they just go through bums.
