Funny Thing About Gloves!
When did it always come down to the cowards safety, every boxing rule has been changed or new ones implemented cause cowards were scared to face the sport "AS IS"
Cleto Reyes are boxing gloves, They are the legit boxing gloves of the sport.
People looks at it like the punchers gloves are an advantage to punchers, so they cry and moan about them wearing them, but you never see fighters complain about fighters wearing orthopedic grand gloves that are huge and help block your face more then regular boxing gloves that been the norm in boxing.
If Punchers gloves (Everlast MX, Cleto Reyes etc) are a advantage to Punchers, then the flip side of that coin is Non punchers gloves that are heavily padded are a advantage to the boxer as they can block most of their face with the glove.
But why do we never hear about people complaining about people wearing these non regular gloves that have now become associated with non punchers, these heavily padded gloves?

Try doing a tad bit research, Mayweather is not the first nor will he be the last to ***** or put stipulations on gloves used.

Gloves? De La Hoya wanted Reyes brand, the "puncher's glove." Even though Mayweather always wears Winning brand, which better protects his brittle hands, he agreed.
"I can't wear the gloves I want to wear, but he can wear the gloves he wants to wear, so he said, 'Let's put that in the contract.' So I said, 'OK, no problem.'"
No *****ing about De La Hoya though
A lot of people don't know that Grants are pretty firm themselves. The leather is taught and can really make light punches sting. I've caused nose bleeds and abrasions using 16oz Grants in sparring. Pros like then because they will custom make you an orthopedic one for pro fights. They certainly aren't pillows though. And, as mentioned, the added protection from the width is a real thing. I think Floyd's objections are nothing more thanpsychological warfare. That's it. Distracting an opponent and getting his body disputed from stress hormones is a potent (though cheap) tactic.
