Alex Ariza doesn't follow the rules of boxing that near all fight trainers follow, something that rubs folks the wrong way, regardless of the results.
Ariza's sole focus seems to be maximizing physical fitness; whether it be Pacquiao, Chavez Jr, Rios, Mikey Garcia, Maidana, Floyd or whomever he works with, he'll only focus on getting the athlete to fight weight with the least amount of stress and max out the fighter, with no care given to the old rules of boxing.
That means weight training, taking days off in camp to rest the body, a maniacal focus on one's nutrition, and his seemingly unorthodox system of cutting weight comfortably.
Ariza is never going to teach a guy to look for that 'double left hook, move out the way' and he seems to have no interest in doing so. that annoys people.
