Joe Calzaghe imo is one of the gretest boxers ever, period, end of discussion.
Froch is one of the ATG'S, but Calzaghe ranks bove him. Guy was a genius
F*ck Calzaghe. Froch is the man. It would be amazing if he ends up fighting DeGale, that would mean he fought a version of "his Froch" twice.
Keep in mind, "his Froch" (DeGale) will earn him upwards of £5m. Groves II earned him £9m.
There was never that money on the table for Calzaghe to fight Froch. He fought Hopkins instead who was a better fighter and the LHW champion. He then made 10 million to fight a shot to sh1t Roy.
Is Ward an ATG?
In terms of my answer, I'd say Calzaghe as he is a genuine ATG, was the champ at SMW and LHW, never lost and has a better resume then given credit for. Not to mention his chin, speed and skill.
Froch has a slightly better resume but lacks in skill and speed and the ability to say, "Yeah, I was the undisputed best in my division".
Unifying is a huge deal in my book and that is why I give Joe the edge even though Froch's resume is better.
Neither are ATGs in my eyes.
I'd rank Froch over Calzaghe in a general list though. Stylistically, Joe beats Carl in a wide UD, but ranking fighters doesn't necessarily come down to head-to-head match-ups to determine who ranks higher.
Froch's resume edges Joe's and the fact that it came in back to back matches is quite unheard of in todays era barring the most complete elites. Joe, however, was a 2 division champ, and was the best in the divisions at the time.
Froch unfortunately had the talents of Ward to compete with, so could never call him the best of the division. I'd say Froch's era was a much deeper 168 though.
especially when these are fantasy head to head match ups!

Well he fought pretty much everyone he was supposed to fight.
The SMW division wasn't as strong when he was fighting.
is this some kind of joke? he won the title in 97 and didn't fight anyone ranked in the top 3 until lacy in 06. was he supposed to fight bums and old retreads for 9 years?
I'd say it was pretty close. Froch probably now has the better wins IMO, but Calzaghe was a better fighter. I'd pick Calzaghe to win if they fought.
But i think Froch has the slightly better CV.
Neither are even ATG's period......but Joe accomplished more

He probably will fight Degale now Chavez has lost.
Shame, that's his Vegas dream basically over. I knew fighting Fonfara was a bad idea.
If Degale got past Dirrell (big if) then i could see it happening.
They are on about the same level imo.
Froch maybe has the slightly better resume, but he clearly maxed out his potential whereas Calzaghe could definitely have done more with his.
So yeah.
Calzaghe never challenged himself enough, can only think of like 2-3 real names he actually fought in his 45 fight career. Didnt challenge himself like froch who faced pascal taylor kessler abraham johnson direl ward bute groves almost back to back with no bum of the month joe calzaghe career tour

Let's see all Joe really has is the number of defenses ,but to imo Froch has the deeper resume ..It also took Joe what 10 yrs to unify and his coming out party was against Lacy ..The undefeated record is really a joke I think when it's all said and done Froch would edge him out ..Though head to head I would have gone with Calzaghe ..

Even if Chavez got through Fonfara i had my doubts the fight would happen.
