entirely different circumstances.
like you said, thats how they signed mayweather. to give a fighter who isnt under contract a bunch of stuff to lure im into signing with them isnt the same as giving someone already under contract something simply for doing a good job.
all promoters who have money shower the top prospects with gifts in an attempt to win them over. but once they get that signature things change. TRP werent promoting floyd the right way or paying him enough, he has proved that in his accomplishments since leaving.
Top Rank has given Floyd cars too back then, I remember reading it before.
Saved his zero with that Madonna gift too
Did you mean Castillo?
Badou Jack perplexes me.
He's born in Sweden and is of Gambian/African descent but has fought almost his entire career out of Las Vegas and sounds like a typical African-American.
So what nation does he represent? Sweden, Gambia or the US?
I'm just curious as usually a boxer will represent a particular nation and have a fanbase from that country.
I don't see him as African-American. I don't know what to see him as.
Badou Jack is Swedish, if you listen to his accent closely you can hear it. He didn't fight in the US until 2011. I think they said on the telecast that Floyd signed him after seeing him sparring one of the Dirrells.
This sorta reminds me of how suge got kurupt to sign with deathrow. He got him a Beamer and he figured it was a gift of loyalty, instead he paid 3times that back to suge.
However I don't think Floyd is like that, and it was a true gift for his friend who just became champion
Why does that matter so much to you? People like you see him as African American, so why can't he claim that if he wants to?

badou iced out wrist after the night of his emphatic victory and new world title. A lot of people on here disparage TMT promotions for their stable and how they are promoting "the fight" but maybe if more promoters showed love to the fighters they could get more loyalty.
people point out haymons mistakes with chavez jr but if Top Rank were doing such a good job why did he leave??
maybe more promoters should start rewarding and showing the fighters more love, stop being so negative and try to be positive for once.
This is one of the most hysterical threads I have read. Id rather have a large signing bonus with a promotor that will make me a star than have an iced out wrist. Bob Arum has made fighters like Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather. & Manny Pacquiao into the biggest draws to date. & I am sure he could do this with Jack if he was able to do it with Tim Bradley & I dont see Jack ever getting Tim Bradley kinda $ anytime during his career with tMt. The reason why people dont like Arum is because fighters dont read what they are signing before they sign with Arum, the mans a Harvard Lawyer grad & a businessman so of course he looks out for his best interest but he's also getting his guys paid. Besides if a boxer is lured in by shiney jewelry than I have a bag full of magic beans I think he might be interested in.
not my style but he obviously likes it dude cant stop cheesing.
But to be completely honest I respect Badou, Badou Jack is like the only one out of the TMT crew who I can actually respect. Dude never tested dirty (Like everyone else on TMT) and he actually works for his, had a rough KO loss but bounced back like a real champion, he actually shocked me with his performance victory over dirrell.

These are gifts. They are already getting paid what their supposed to dumbass
You know that how? The only thing we have to go on is that its known that he gives 'gifts' instead of a full paycheck and he demands these back if he falls out with the said individual.
IF however, he has been payed in full(and floyd isnt going to demand it back) then its a nice gesture from his boss. Hard to have a problem with that.
This thread and it's thread starter just go to show you how stupid Floyd's fan base truly is.
In typical moronic fashion, Floyd gets his fighter a watch instead of a healthy bonus. Anyone with half a brain knows that once that watch leaves the store it's only worth 30% off what it cost retail.
If I'm a fighter I'd just say give me the money that the watch would cost as a bonus.
Dumb Floyd fans think giving a guy a watch is a great way to take care of them...it's not. If the watch cost $10K the guy can probably only get $3K for it now if he wanted or needed to sell it.
The one poster here who mentioned the woman's book who used to work for Floyd is right. She complained that when it was time to get paid he'd give you a damn watch LOL. A watch doesn't pay the fuc+in' rent fools!

Everybody loves getting a bonus, and who exactly doesn't like nice watches. Now Floyd probably has a chest full of nice watches like that, so there is that.

one of Floyd's former assistants came out with a book late last year where she wrote that getting paid by Floyd depended on his mood. If he was happy, he'd pay and buy gifts for you, if he wasnt, you'd get nothing. Wildly inconsistent.
I suppose its different if you're a boxer as there's probably contracts that have been exchanged between fighter and promoter but for me, I'd go with Top Rank, they seem more of a stable environment to develop your career in. They've been around for a number of years and have built careers with clever matchmaking for many of the stars we see today.
Here's a piece on how Top Rank first signed (or poached) Mayweather:
entirely different circumstances.

I'll tell you something.
If I was an up and coming fighter, I'd link up with Al Haymon immediately and join Mayweather Promotions ASAP. As soon as Floyd retires most of the PBC bouts will take place under the M. Promotions banner, and Schaefer will probably be running things instead of Ellerbe, who isn't smart enough to run things. There isn't a single better combination than that. Talk about a secured future in the sport. I would thank Al Haymon EVERY chance I get.
i'm sure you would. you are just the kind of spineless co-ckroach that he loves to control i mean manage.
you jealous?
:lol1: wtf. But floyd does take care of his guys. Also bought Tabiti a car. I know promotors woo fighters before they sign but idk about after winning titles and such. Nice gesture
