Ive heard the term, "leaving the fight in the gym" but are there any perfect examples of fighters that did so? How could you tell? Seems like overtraining could easily be used as an excuse...

Edwin Valero said it, check out the link. :)
Oscar didn't overtrain, he wanted an easy fight and thought his size would demolish Pacquiao.
Oscar had not one muscle and looked pale and flabby, he didnt train hard, he snorted that weight off
Margarito vs Mosley, margarito weighed in at a 145 very manny esqe....i felt the the vigorous training regimen had him out there looking lethargic, more so than the plaster issue....

good read thanks bro!
Interesting, do you know who said this? I dont think I have ever heard DLH's training come into question in a good or bad way. I guess we all assume if they make weight, they train properly.

There's no such thing.
hoya vs pacquiao is probabley as perfect as it gets
That was a 35 year old shell trying to cut down to a weight that he hadn't made in almost eight years.
De La Hoya did not overtrain, he undertrained. As he's sparringpartner to that fight said, he don't like to run. He doesn't even train that hard!
:cool2:
He had to lose a stupid dumb amount of weight to make that fight happen. I don't doubt he skipped out on training sessions and road work when you're already that tired and dehydrated.

Stiverne was over trained in the Wilder fight. Not saying he would have won, but the guy was clearly not in his usual element.
I liked Stiverne but I think the height difference was just to much to deal with, not the training...

He was drained, not necessarily tired because he left everything in the gym. He left everything on the scales.
nah hes rite
Broner looked hella tight, like he trained too much
i actully thought Broner won da fight by close UD but powers that be wanted to bring him down, cant believe still happens in da 2000s
:lol1::rofl::haha:
Khan vs GArcia. Had a massive 10-12 week camp for Peterson rematch but Peterson failed the drug test, Khan got offered Garcia not long after. He took 1 week of then went into another 12 week camp, weight drained and over trained, not focused.
^^^good example^^^
Hatton claimed he over trained but his ass was getting knocked out either way, he might have last a few rounds longer but thats it. Maybe roy jones vs tarver 2? having to lose all the weight from Ruiz fight, as he looked horrible in the first tarver fight also.
Hatton was just never as good as he was hyped imo. And as for jones, this is a decent example but we see this a lot, fighters move up for a fight then try to move back down especially at an advanced boxers age and get KO'd. I am assuming the weight cutting and bulking is traumatic to the body. Guys under 25 I think can make weight moves fairly easy but once your over 25, I think fighters should settle into a weight class until they cannot make it anymore so I am not to sure if you could necessarily say RJJ overtrained, he may have trained as normal, just couldnt take the cut, if that makes sense.

this is a good example.
