Was Margarito on his way to stopping Cotto in the Rematch?

Margarito got his ass kicked in the last round. Where this idea that he was coming on strong comes from I will never know. That was a one sided ass whupping from start to finish. Yup. What he said!

Perhaps, but I think the extent and documented history of Tony's injuries were deeper than just a swollen eye. Remember Tony had surgery on that eye with fractures too. Not the same as a fighter with a swollen eye. The doctor had more to consider with Tony's eye. I can't really disagree with this. Good post.

The eye wasn't really a factor, it became swollen as early as round 2. Smoger said on the rodriguez/wolak fight that he allowed it to continue because wolak was still game and was fighting back. The way he looked, I really thought he had a broken orbital bone as well. I just feel like the fight should've continue.

It was a hometown stoppage but still well deserved because Maragritos a cheater. I was a fan of his until I heard the facts and I immediately pulled my fan card. Margarito deserved no favors, Arum paid him hefty for his cheating ways and lack of athleticism.

Cotto was indeed diminishing and Margarito was catching some momentum but it wasn't like the first fight where we saw the fight begin to shift from like rd 6 and 7. This was already late in the fight, margarito wasn't gonna stop Cotto. However it was like the Mickey vs Salido fight where it got stopped as it got interesting. Sure it think Mickey was most likely gonna control the fight but we all wanted to see it develop more. I think the stoppage was crap. A few months before we saw smoger let Wolak fight with a completely shut eye in new york. I don't know why they didn't let margarito continue. It was the same commission and the same ref that night.

He should have pushed him back and ripped him to the body...He would have stopped him.....Margs is soft downstairs...Cotto was in "boxing mode" against Margs...... This is what I mean by cotto being a "different" fighter than the one that lost to trout & floyd. You can thank pedro diaz for that.

I agree and Cotto was in the exact same position he was in the first bout. Margarito even made that cut throat gesture he felt the give in cotto that give taht you can only feel when you in a fight and feel the dude just prime to be taking out. Cotto was worried and caught a very lucky break. even if you dont think margarito would have won you cant deny that Cotto caught a very lucky break. Those last rounds all cotto had to do was survive and he would win but that damage he would have took (if he could would have withstand it) would have ruined his entire career. How would it ruin his career when plasterito's punches weren't having the same effect as in the first fight?

You never know what might have happened if his eye didn't swell the way it did. I think he took everything Cotto had to give and it didn't faze him. Saying that, he wasn't looking good. I don't think he was the same fighter, I think Pac really took something out of him. That eye was ruined.
