I think true fans take fights for what they are worth and don't use triangle
triangle theories. Loma beat russell and I believe Russell would beat Salido but fighter a sgould be measured on their merits, not others victories or defeats.
It certainly reflects better on Lomachenko for Russell to have beaten Gonzalez than to have lost to him.
But Lomachenko's his own talent and Russell is in his rear-view, no real need for him to try and live off a decisive win that happened last year.
Now let's see who they fight and how they do in the future.
Totally agree with this post.
Why can't we just let Russell enjoy the victory?
He proved that he has heart and determination by coming back from a loss to get a title. Let him enjoy it.
Reminds me when Mayweather fans were taking credit for Marquez beating Pacquiao 2 years ago.
I remember that and I agree. Russel was the man in the ring with Jhonny for Jhonny's strap, not Loma.
It says more about Russel than Loma, if anything. We all know how talented Loma is, Russel just made a statement for himself.
I suggest we give Russel Jr. the opportunity to bask in glory for once, before making him look like Lomachenko's shiny badge on his resume.
At the end of the day it was Gary who KO'd Gonzalez, not Loma. An undefeated Russel was a good win for Lomachenko nonetheless, but Russel's win over Gonzalez does not correlate with any of Lomachenko's accomplishments thus far.

Russell is not a strong puncher, perhaps it merely showed us how vulnerable Gonzalez was. Yes it helps Loma's ranking, but time will tell if any of these guys are the real deal.
Yes, don't like this mindset. Just give Russell the credit he is due. Very nice win for Russell, he has gotten much better as a result of stepping up his competition. Like some posters have said, bouncing back from that first loss makes him a more dangerous fighter. But, again, no triangle theories please.
Erm...no. A lot of neutral observers like ESPN had it at 114-114. The punch stats were heavily in favour of Loma - Salido threw 205 more but landed 22 less...the cleaner, more skillful and more effective work was done by Lomachenko. It really depends on how judges like to score fights, and clearly Salido's work rate worked in his favour, he took a lot of rounds like that, but a lot of his fighting tactics were spoiling and swarming Loma, who was unwise to clinch quite a lot and not let his hands go enough.
If the fight was scored on clean, effective work, and points would have been deducted from Salido, the WORST possible result would have been at least a draw, or a Loma win.
Salido did not do anything special in that fight, but he took advantage of Loma's inactivity - who did next to nothing except clinching for ten rounds - and simply worked the body to put rounds in the bank. It was a tough style matchup for Loma, who seemed uncomfortable fighting off the back foot. Loma did land clean shots... in the last two rounds when it was too late.
Again, if you deduct points from Salido, you have to deduct points from Loma as well. This is simple really, Salido likes to fight on the inside, if you hold him everytime he gets there and prevent him from working, then you are cheating. The referee should have taken points away from both fighters.
I had Salido clearly winning the fight 116-112. We're gonna have to agree to disagree. You might be a bit biased since Loma is Ukrainian but I don't blame you, staying objective is not easy.
Russell did the work and got it done. Props to him! Vasyl whipped his ass though and would do it again. Just saying. Props to Russell though. And Jhonny dropped a big time dud last night. That was embarrassing. He got muted by the TBA Killer.
I am still not sold on Russell, he beat a guy whos had over 60+ fights been stopped by mediocre punchers and was almost 9yrs older than him.
And as for the Salido vs Loma argument stop it, Salido should have had his boxing license taken off him the fat ape coming at WW against a guy in only his 2nd fight.
If you take points away from Salido for low blows, then you must take points away from Loma for excesssive clinching as well. The fight was poorly scored. The 116-112 card was spot on. If the fight had been properly scored, Salido would have won even if he was deducted 2 or 3 points.
A draw obviously would have been a terrible decision, the split decision was awful as it is. There was only one winner.

If Salido was deducted points as he should have been for the repeated low blows, he would have lost the fight...which suggests no, he didn't do much more. A fair result for that fight would have been a draw, as Loma probably didn't do quite enough to win clearly himself either. In any case, I don't think any fighter could have beaten a seasoned, veteran champ like Salido in their second pro fight, especially if we also take into account the weight advantage Salido had on the night. The result is a blot on Loma's resume for now, but in fact he can take a lot of positives from that in the long run.

Why are people acting like a Gonzales win was that impressive? Gonzales was a past his prime fighter who happened to pull an upset. He was the underdog vs Russel for a reason
In hindsight it all makes sense now, but I think a lot of us (myself included) romanticized his upset win over Mares and underrated GRJ after his loss to Loma.
Come on, bro. Salido did a lot more than just throw low blows.
You're better than that.
