One thing that I would say is that haymon did not want hopkins to fight kovalev, which to some could be considered a white vs black affair. I don't but I know there are some odd ones who would see it that way. Hopkins went against haymon anyway and went for kovalev hopkins isn't with haymon. the only reason haymon wouldn't want hopkins to fight kovalev is because adonis stevenson had just signed with haymon and they wanted to set that fight (hopkins-stevenson) up on showtime.

It's a style thing more than anything imo, pressure fighter v mover. No casual wants to watch two movers.

It's not that Haymon is trying to market Blacks vs. Latinos (that's been going on in boxing since well before Haymon came around), but I think he is trying to get the level of support of black fighters on par with that of Latino fighters. How else do you explain relegating Abner Mares (arguably the biggest draw on the March 7th card) to NBC Sports Network and putting two relatively unknowns in Stevenson vs. Bika on prime time CBS, but putting a huge name in Chavez Jr. on Showtime? Latinos are usually the target audience of promoters because they are where the guaranteed money is, but Haymon seems like he is trying something different by making blacks his target audience. I understand the demographics in boxing, all I am asking is if this is going to be the popular trend? Prior to this the biggest matches (not including Floyd) were always Latino against Latino (Mexican vs. ...) seems like Haymon is taking a page from Mayweathers book and is pitting overmatched Latino fighters against a more talented/athletic black fighters to ignite some racial grudges. Lets be honest here, Haymon's latino fighters are nothing to brag about. If Guerrero was the best Latino fighter he had to offer than I am good about watching his fights.
