According to these guys (who are usually spot on). Don't know what their source is, though.

At any rate, that's 16.6 million per fight. That Canelo money is starting to look like chump change all of a sudden.
The likely scenario is him being overpayed for tuneups for the few fights he has left, Haymon style. If that is in fact the case I can't say I'm not disappointed, but I can't be mad at him either. Seriously, who here hates money?
Edit: Some more sources

They all got the same quote from Cotto. Apparently the original source was ESPN deportes, but I still find it a little dubious as I've yet to see english media cover this.
make of it what you will...

That was a number reported but I talked to Roc Nation officials who laughed and said it was totally incorrect. I tend to believe them. No way is he getting $50M guaranteed for 3 fights.
Makes sense. If it's true good for him. I don't think anyone would turn that down. However, I really have to question RNS for that decision. Cotto is not known to casual spectators. Dude is at the end of his "kurea" and you give him the biggest contract he's ever had to almost definitely not fight Canelo and GGG(aka his biggest fights)? Idiots Lol.
Or, like the poster above stated, totally a rumor..pperhaps even started by Team Cotto to try and silence the ppl pushing him to fight GGG and Canelo.

I'm not a flip-flopper. If Cotto is really making that then good for him.
It's just funny that you say you "don't care about money" but now you're sucking Cotto's balls for signing a big money deal.
How am I "sucking his balls" when all I said was good sh^t?
Cotto 1 - Cotto Haters 0
I'm glad he is getting paid - he's been in some wars and have entertained us for years. Good for him - I hope that the investments he makes with that money will bring us a new wave of fighters. He was probably offered 2.5M to fight Rios on HBO WCB.
The fantastic thing is that those Canelo and GGG fights are still there. The Mayweather rematch is now a fantasy unless Mayweather makes the move without his father, Al Haymon's blessing. I am glad that boxing is still capable of giving people financial freedom. Honestly I am happy of PBC, I'm happy for Roc Nation - tonight's card is good, hopefully the next card w/ Roc Nation features Ward and Cotto in NYC and they are compelling matchups.
no dumbass... "that fight doesnt make financial sense", your opinion (quigg-frampton-rigo)... cotto signed a contract for xxx amount ( i say good for him)... dont be a flip flopper

The bigger story is all the muppets believe it.
They are really going to pay him $16 million fighting the k9s of the world.

From the guy who constantly tries to claim money doesn't matter in boxing :lol1:

As if Arum made money on every card he's put on? That Rigo main event where everyone left was a major success apparently? No. Arum has bombed on fights just like Jay-Z did, now he spent big to more than likely use Cotto's name and put his and their own fighters on the under card. Will it lose money now? Of course, but they can afford to lose short-term because they have a massive bankroll and will make it up with the right star in the future. Besides, if Cotto fights Canelo, GGG or maybe even Floyd (even rematch with Canelo should it be close) they'll make a lot of it back.
Well the surprising thing here for me is that people seem to give a **** that Arum is crying about someone breaking a promise. Arum is so full of ****. If the understanding was that Cotto was to remain with Top Rank until retirement, it would be a long term contract and not a fight by fight basis. Promises dont mean **** and Arum has used that to screw more people over than anyone else in boxing.
lol Cotto will never see that money. They cant be profitable at that rate. Has gamboa ever made what SMS promotions promised him?
Rocnation will go bankrupt and Jay Z wont have to pay cotto ****.
Spending? They're wasting money...Just like when they lost 500k for their Madison Square show in Jan.... but they're making money I guess
Lose money now, get more money later... Roc Nation Sports & Cotto Promotions can have fighters on their undercards and what not... get exposure for them and it can pay off in the long run.
this is a great move for cotto money wise, lets just hope that we dont get 3 overpaid sparring matches.... cant blame cotto on this one...
now for jayz, beyonce better keep making the big bucks cuz they will need it more than ever...
Yea... No tune up fights at all... only title fights and unification fights:boxing:
