Are these proper opponents for his first middleweight title defense?
Seems like Arum is really trying to push for Bradley to get the shot or Rios, but Algieri could be an option for Cotto all fights would be at a catchweight.
Roach is pushing for Cotto to fight Khan at 155, or Rios.
I never saw a problem with Rios, Bradley or Algieri fighting Pacquiao at 147 or above 140 since they are pretty much bigger than him, but going up to 160? come on man, I hope this isn't true at all. If it is I will still watch but the only ones to gain anything from this are Cotto's opponents, its a lose lose for Cotto.
At least face a junior middleweight guy or middleweight guy for your first title defend at middleweight.
that was a good joke...
No, the joke is Canelo leaving the room and then people blaming Cotto. Manny or Floyd leave their meeting room, we blame the guy who stays and tries to make it happen?
And then... Canelo got up and left and said "I'm fighting Kirkland on May 9th, puto." Apparently that was supposed to intimidate or scare Cotto? We all know who needs that fight for legacy AND money, Cotto's career is set without either one of those. Just because Canelo is desperate doesn't mean Cotto should be lol.QUOTE]
Canelo is in his mid 20's and is making millions for each fight. He is hardly desperate. Neutral people who have followed this know it was Cotto who stopped this from happening. Maybe it can happen sometime later. But if Cotto ends up fighting a welterweight for the middleweight title, it isn't going to look very good for his "legacy".
Canelo is in his mid 20's and making millions for each fight. He could fight 10 times on HBO and have the amount of money he would from one Cotto fight. There is no excuse for leaving that table other than being inpatient. Cotto didn't keep the fight from happening, IT COULD STILL HAPPEN RIGHT NOW, if Canelo didn't sign to fight someone else.
Only on boxingscene... If Manny got up and left the room while Floyd was talking it'd be like Manny fans blaming Floyd. That's literally what you guys are arguing right now. And why did he leave? Because Cotto said let's let see how things play out.
Cotto wants the fight, he isn't desperate for it. He's desperate for the Mayweather fight. Canelo is desperate to make people forget it and just remember the ass kicking he's going to get from Cotto. At which point we'll find out Canelo actually had string cheese for tendons in his ankle from his fans.

agree with you on this, we all know which side was pushing for the fight...

Cotto was out on his feet vs Demarcus Corley. Mayweather even buzzed him in their fight.
Don't pretend that Cotto cant be hurt.
I didn't. He still has a better chin than Bradley did I saw anything different?
Bradley didn't get dropped by Manny but he was dropped by Provo and Holt and Cotto would never be out on his feet from a punch with Provo, certainly not for 12 rounds.

You can't complain about inactivity and then say a fight being a month later makes a difference. The only reason Canelo wasn't confident was because Floyd was still out there, nothing wrong with waiting. I'm not saying he had to wait a year, just literally 3-4 more weeks that's it. If you guys think that's too long, could I be that coddled and entitled please?
by that time there was not a guarantee that floyd-pac was going to get resolved in a month, they been trying this for 5 years...
then if floyd says no pac, cotto wasnt going to fight canelo either...
canelo wanted to get confirmation from cotto regardless of the other fight, not a contract signed but an agreement and then work from that...
gaby also said they had no problem with the date or venue as long as it was the most lucrative option...
they actually changed their tune once canelo gave up to their demands..

He has been inactive too long. Cotto was being difficult in the negotiations so he chose to move on, keep busy, and collect a check. If Canelo were confident he would get the Cotto fight in June, he probably would have waited.

Cotto wanted in June in NY, Gaby openly stated that.

Cotto never made a move period,so how would Canelo know if it was May or June?
don't argue with him bro, they got cottos g string shoved so far down their throats....
Get on with his career... If Canelo fights May 9th, you're telling me that makes his career SOOOOOOOO much better to manage than if he fought on June 9th? Wow...

So Cotto's leading candidates are Bradley, Rios and Algieri? | BoxingScene Community
