Although DR and PR are free to export their talents the difference between the two is that DR culture when it comes to boxing is not as big or as hardcore starting from the ams and therefore they lack a decent number of good coaches . Although Cuba can't export said talent, they do however export their coaches all over the world because that's where it all starts. They have a lot and every coach has 2 or 3 guys learning from them to be able to train the next generation of fighters and coaches when it's their turn, and that's how they keep up and grow boxing culture. No knowledge goes to waste, and it is spread and passed on. I don't think DR has that type of culture yet when it comes to boxing not strong enough just yet.
I guess you never been to Washington Heights where there are more crack heads than there are plantains to peel. I swear the last time I was there I thought they were filming The Walking Dead in every corner Bodega. And not to mention how many Dominicans who have FLOODED PR with a Presidente beer in one hand and a smack bag in the other.
Anyway I don't want to get "side - tracked " to the topic at hand. But in truth, I grew up with Dominicans and to be brutally honest I never met one that could fight. In fact, any time they scrapped with the latest arrivals of Latin immigrants more notably Ecuadorians it was always PR's that had to bail them out.
But, you know what? This is about boxing so let's stick to the theme while I eat my tostones with mojito.
This guy is fabricating stories. Keep Dominicans name out of your mouth already. You made two posts here, both are insulting Dominicans. You are clearly fabricating and exaggerating stories. You say you didn't come in here to get side tracked but continued with your insults and then end up saying, "Oh let's stick to boxing, but this is my second post popping off though. I'll probably make a third one." Stick to plucking your eyebrows Ricky Martin.
It's just not part of their culture. Neither is heroin, or as your family calls it, "Manteca". Crack was just as HUGE with puerto ricans here in NYC too. I remember one of my first jobs was at a methadone clinic in the Bronx. You wouldn't believe how many puerto rican crack heads and dope fiends there were! Don't think I encountered many Dominicans though.
I always thought about how the Taino's in PR submitted and gave treasures, women and goods to their conquerors, calling them Gods and how the african/indian populations in DR fought their oppressors and for their freedoms. They killed over 50,000 colonist! Gotta respect that.
Sorry for getting side tracked. Anyways, yeah, it's just a culture thing. With some, it's not in their nature to fight with gloves. With others, it's the only way they would ever dare to.

Why would they same thing with Cubans last few top Cubans to defect have gotten 40-80 million dollars contracts without even proving that hey can play in Horne majors. Why int he world would you go to boxing and make a few thousand a fight to then maybe of you are lucky you will make a few millions in your career. Of top of my head last few Cubans that have defected and signed with mlb teams without playing a single game have signed for 68 mil, 72 mil , 70 mil. Puig got 40 million as a 19 year old. Olivera who will sign as soon as cleared In a few weeks is rumored to be getting north of 70 mil without playing a single game in the bigs. 19 year old moncada should be signed by The end of the week will cost the Yankees anywhere from 50-80 million. Why would Dominicans or Cubans do boxing when their players make hundreds of millions of dollars playing baseball and they get to keep their brain after playing oh man that's a win win lol baseball is king in DR and Cuba and as long as they both keep putting out talent like they have it will stay that way. If you are shorter than 5-8 sure try boxing but if anything above that you know what sport you should be playing if you are in the caribbean
That being said, Cubans have maintained a strong interest in boxing and have produced quality fighters in the last 7-9 yrs, post Casamayor era. Dominicans... not so much.

In boxing, IF you are good, you might see some decent paydays in your career. A guy like Rod Salka ain't seeing sh*t but regular salary anyone with a HS diploma can get.
If you relatively "suck" in the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, no matter how bad you are compared to the rest of the league, you still get minimum salary of mid range 6 digits. Like $400-600k a year, depending on what sport. That means you can be Rod Salka in the MLB and still be taking home 6 digits every year. Same concept of American heavyweights, that people are denial about. Why use your size and athletic ability to box for $10-100k a fight for the first 5 years of your career, when you can sign for a minimum of $400-600k a year guaranteed and get up to millions upon millions of dollars without having to face some special team(Mayweather, Pacquiao, Wlad, Cotto) to make good money?
No disrespect to Dominicans but when it comes to the Latin contingent in boxing it has always been Puerto Ricans and especially Mexicans who most dominated and represent the sport.
Domincans really aren't known for having the temperament for fighting. And that's no knock to them personally. It just that Mexicans and Puerto Ricans seemed to have this sh1t in their genetic make up.
Possibly, Ireland has 4 million less people and just as many alternative sports yet has a lot more success in boxing.
Reason why I'll tell you why because we like to drink a lot and party and lady's are our down fall....I used to box and I was very good at it but honestly I hand to let boxing go cause i started to have kids at the age of 15 ....fighting is in our blood just like Puerto Ricans and Mexicans but we lack dedication I'll tell u that straight of the back .....baseball is kinda different because you could play a game of baseball drinking while on the field I know because I'm very close to some mayor league baseball players and they tell me all the time what they do while they are playing baseball..after the game they drink they party in clubs they can even brake night... with boxing is very very different...
Na, the real reason is because Dominican Republic shows a lot more support to Baseball than they do any other sport. Just like Mexico shows major support to Boxing and Soccer, and PR shows a lot of support to Boxing and Baseball, and Cuba has Baseball and Boxing. DR shows more support to Baseball and Basketball. Drinking and women is no excuse, Mexicans drink a lot too. DR does not care about Boxing. You walk around DR asking who is Joan Guzman when he was in his prime, nobody knew.
MLB salary for a rookie is minimum of $400k, first year pro salary. Obligated, no less than that.
Pension plans for MLB:
Arguably, Major League Baseball (***8220;MLB***8221;) offers one of the best pension and healthcare programs in all of sports. Players vest in their pensions after 43 days on the active roster and just one day qualifies a player for lifetime healthcare. Playing isn***8217;t even a requirement, benchwarmers may qualify for benefits as well. After 43 days, players qualify for the minimum benefit of $34,000 per year and those with 10 years of service receive a pension of approximately $100,000 annually. In 2010, the MLB Players***8217; Pension Plan reported assets of over $1.3 billion for approximately 8,200 participants.

Boxing first year salary: $1-10k? a Fight?
Boxing pension plan: None
As a boxer, you may never even see a total of $400k in your entire career.
If you are a Dominican who can play in the MLB or box in the pros, and you pick to box in the pros, I would knock the person out myself right there on the spot for stupidity.
$400k minimum in your first year? Please, who picks boxing unless they absolutely suck at every other major sport or have family who influenced them? And they also have the sh*ttiest and most demanding fans of any sport.

Last I checked there really aren't that many Dominicans on the Earth, and of that very small percent of the total population of Earth a huge amount make it to pro baseball.
In short it is a baseball factory, but if they are good at baseball they are likely to be good at boxing also due the insane amount of hand eye coordination required in baseball and sharp eyes to me are one of the most under rated things a boxer can have.
Baseball is just a much better deal even if a playing career doesn't work out it is much easier to get a job in Baseball than boxing, how many boxing scouts are there?

I no longer see the appeal with baseball, to think I actually loved that sport once. I had brought some boxing gloves over there where I'm from and although they had no type of understanding, they got better at it.
