Why are some fans acting like Murray is going to give GGG a tough fight? What does he brings to the table that others haven't? He is solid but not really an A fighter. Yes he beat an over the hill Martinez(which over the hill Cotto embarrased). My problem with Murray is how active he is(or isn't) in the ring. I don't believe he will be letting his hands go as often as he will need to in order to make a competitive fight. You can beat GGG by outboxing him using a lot of movement while scoring with precise punches or........by overwhelming him with pressure and power(very hard to do considering GGG's power). Murray brings none to the table. This thread is not intended to overhype GGG(although I do belive he has tons of potential) or to take away anything from Murray. I just believe this will be another NSB classic.....
Before the fight..."Murray is the toughest test"
After the fight... "Murray is a bum"
In other words the only way he'd get props is by moving up a weight class and beating the pound4 pound #2 fighter in the world. And if he lost a decision to Ward it would be "see I told you that he is overrated as soon as he stepped up he lost lol owned!!!1!!!". Basically there are some people that will simply never give him any credit.
But that's boxing for ya. Golovkin is doing what he's supposed to be doing. Fighting and beating the highest ranked opponents available to him. Unfortunately for him it's getting increasingly difficult to unify the division.
Exactly
/thread
Macklin was his biggest test, then he was a bum. Geale was his biggest test, then he was a bum. Rubio was at least durable who could give him rounds, but guess what? Turns out he was a bum. As of now Murray is his biggest test, but soon will be a bum.
Heck I'll take it a step further because in a perfect world this is what people will be saying before the end of the year....
"Cotto was over the hill"
"Cotto was too small"
"Cotto was shopworn from all his wars"
Ward is the only fighter were I think a majority of BS will stand up and give him his due if he were to win.
Sounds like Floyd lol.
It really is tough when you are the very best in or around your weight. People will try to find any excuse to avoid giving you credit.
Reality
I don't know of any people who expected Rubio to last long or provide a test in that fight. I sure as hell didn't.
Rubio was a fighter chosen because of his proven power and audience. Rubio is just the first step, IMO. GGG is going after the Mexican fan now. In order to gain the respect of the Mexican boxing fan and prove his "Mexican Style" promotion to have legs, he must go to war with Mexican and Latino fighters in general. He most likely would have wanted a longer fight with heated exchanges to further prove his heart. Rubio just wasn't up to the task.
I would expect GGG (Whom I like) to go after the greatest fighters ( Truely great fighters) and names (Not necessarily great fighters but rather popular ones) south of the border, to please the Mexican/Latino fan base. That means Canelo Alvarez, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Miguel Cotto among others. Doing this will give him leverage in inevitable negotiations with Andre Ward. We know Andre ( Whom I also like) wants to fight in Oakland, being away from there might take something away, if for no other reason than a split crowd reaction might cause him to push unnecessarily.
If they do fight in Oakland, a large Latino population in Southern California might neutralize the crowd somewhat and GGG might get the purse he wants. They both might get the purse if it's promoted well.:crazy:
Why did Team Triple Duck go deaf, mute and blind when Erislandy Lara called them out?
They didnt, they said he should get approved by Hbo if he wants to fight him. Remember what Lara's manager said:"Hbo needs to talk to Haymon but we're very happy on Showtime". Thats a joke callout, like those t shirts say "i want GGG but not next" lol
Murray is the best to date. It does not mean he's an A fighter or that he will beat GGG. Golovkin is still in that phase of his career where he's still stepping up in comp with some fights.
Murray being the best to date doesn't mean you have to throw a parade when GGG wins. More like a pat on the back for fighting a decent guy.
Call me when the Triple Duck fights someone with a pulse...
You know he offered to fight Wards best win on their home turf, coming up a division. Hard to build up a resume when a proven warrior like Froch thinks this unproven mw is too much of a risk
So GGG is nothing till he beats ward??
That's brilliant
He thinks Ggg is scary awesome, so his expectations for him are far higher than for Ward, for example
Call me when;
A) Murray has accomplished half of what Ward has
B) The Triple Duck grows a pair and fights Ward
So GGG is nothing till he beats ward??
That's brilliant
Probably on par with his best wins to date. Possibly better, just based on the fact that he has not been beaten conclusively as of yet and is still a fairly fresh and young fighter.
I thought Murray lost to Sturm close if I remember correctly but he clearly beat Martinez with a very good gameplan and tactics. I don't think the same will work with Golovkin and I still think Murray is a pretty run of the mill fighter overall.
He probably is the best Golovkin is fought but that isn't saying much.
The fact that Ward has 14 KO's out of 27 fights says everything we need to know.
Golovkin continues on his march to knock over TOMATO CANs in world record fashion...
Fixed your post.
Rubio was a TOMATO CAN of the first order who, in his previous fight, lost every round to a blown up welter before landing a lucky punch...
Spada is a career MW?
these threads are so ****ing dumb.
'cause theres nobody ggg will ever get credit for fighting in the middleweight.
NOBODY.
in super middleweight, chavez jr is a hypejob, ward has been inactive, froch is over the hill.
and on and on and on and on and on there will always be reasons why golovkin aint tested.
what a tragedy. a great boxer in a division experiencing a **** era.

So who is better than Murray on GGG's record?
Murray arguably beat in eyez on many two of the best middleweights of the last decade.
Martinez and Sturm, wich is not the case when it comes to the Rubios of the world.
Cotto beat a shoter version of Sergio.
I think it'll be a good fight.
Murray is a decent middleweight....
He has a lot in common with recent Golovkin opponents in that he is GOOD...but has not shown the ability to compete successfully at ELITE levels...
I expect the fights' outcome to mirror that of recent Golovkin opponents as well with Murray succumbing to GGG's superior offensive onslaught midway thru the fight....
GGG TKO 8
GGG's run reminds me of Tyson! I believe the first guy who is not scared and decides to fight back, instead of surviving, will be the one to shock the world!
That's usually when they've got hurt in exchanges, imo to stand in there with Golovkin it has to be an unusually durable fighter which is what Ouma was, since being able to take the punches allows the opponent to stand his ground and fire back. We saw that with Stevens and Rosado for a round or so.
There is no one really that durable in the MW division right now, maybe Murray will be that guy but I think you really have to go up a division to the Frochs, Bikas and Abrahams.
Murray is good. He has solid technic, I had him beating Sturm and Martinez. He has no punching power but will frustrate GGG. I'm not picking him to beat Glovokin but IMO it won't be easy
People overrate Murray based on the Sturm fight, which people incorrectly assume he was robbed in because it was close and in Germany, and the Martinez fight, where Sergio was washed up.
The guy isn't very good and certainly isn't any better than Macklin or Geale.
