JAMES DEGALE vowed 'It's my time to shine' after finally being handed a world title shot.
DeGale gets the chance to become Britain's first Olympic gold medallist to win a world title when he fights Andre Dirrell for the IBF super-middlewight crown in April.
Defending champ Carl Froch yesterday vacated his belt, leaving DeGale in prime position to become a world champ seven years after his Olympic glory.
And with Froch close to ending his career, and bitter rival George Groves still rebuilding his, Londonder DeGale says the time is right for him to became the main man.

Chavez is the biggest payday of the lot and it would bring the best atmosphere.
I don't know why anyone would want to see Bernard Hopkins. That fight wouldn't even make it to Vegas.
Hopkins is a greater opponent, as is GGG, as is even DeGale or Ward II or Stevenson or Pascal II or Kovalev...what has Chavez Jr done since get battered for 11.5 rounds against Martinez?
So, you're saying that because Froch didn't abdicate he "gave" his mandatory a shot? Don't be so phucking stupid. You're not even making a point.
You're pretty thick headed aren't you? The point is that Froch did what Calzaghe didn't. He gave a young fighter a shot when he didn't have to, there were bigger money fights available to him than Groves.
This still going on?
Calzaghe didn't fight his mandatory (Froch, unknown domestic fighter)
Froch did. (Groves, unknown domestic fighter)
How can it be made any more simple?
The point is he could have but he chose not to. Froch chose not to give up the belt., He chose to give Groves the fight when he didn't have to and that deserves credit. And it's what Calzaghe didn't do for him.
He chose to retain the belt and therefore had to fight his mandatory.
It doesn't matter what you or I think about his motivations. The fact is, Froch wasn't prepared to give up the belt at that point in his career. Now he is... which was my original point.

Why would a fight against an unknown George Groves make sense to a guy who'd just got the two biggest wins of his career and was now a bonafide PPV fighter?
:pat:
Don't you think he could have fought a much bigger name?

Befriended? Bardock made a valid point and I agreed with it. It's weird that upsets you enough to comment on it.
:lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
First time that sentence has ever been uttered in human history.
lol you can't win with him. He's already convinced himself he's won the argument before even posting. :lol1:
Yeah, I'm not that interested in winning, I just wanted to see if he had a valid point to enlighten me further. He doesn't.
What made sense to whom? I think he took the fight that made sense to him. The fact that you don't understand may be at the root of why you're so upset.

Well done, you've befriended one of my groupies and the certified biggest spastic on the board :fing02:

The point is that Froch went against what made sense and decided to give an unknown Groves the opportunity to fight him for the title. And he should be commended for that.
Calzaghe never afforded Froch the same chance.
Like Dan said, how many times does he have to do it before he's given credit? DeGale? Callum Smith? Rocky Fielding? :lol1:

He's trying to but he's struggling to make a point. Poor guy. I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but you know... I think he's a bit special.

What's all this about "need". He's a prizefighter with a title. I think you'll find most boxers want to retain their title until they get to stage where their priorities shift.
:pat:
Froch, by his own self-proclamation, was already a superstar. Why would he need a belt? He had another belt too! He was in line for any number of big fights and he chose to face Groves.
Is Dirt still in here defending Froch? :haha: Pathetic.

Well, clearly it didn't make sense to him. But maybe you know best?

But he didn't need the title. Why the hell would he? He gave Groves the opportunity. Calzaghe didn't give Froch the opportunity.

Vacating didn't make sense? LOL....so Groves was the biggest fight out there for him?

He did if he wanted to retain the title, and obviously he wanted to retain the title. Calzaghe didn't. Froch doesn't now.
