or by the time he was eventually caught by the IQ test? All tests are scheduled, there is nothing random about them so its no surprise it took them that long to find him.
Toney is a fat slug who would have been battered to death against Golovkin.
All Toney beat was a bunch of mediocre Americans, he never faced the European super athletes of today.
Oh, you're a troll.... Sorry no interest
I felt like he meant toney was talented without actually committing to training his natural ability. Roy was a helluva talent, but, to his credit, was dedicated on perfecting his craft.
he means naturally talented with boxing skills, a natural boxer
lots of people have said this about toney, how he'd show up incredibly out of shape yet beat the sht outta you in sparring
the physical, which is what people think of when someone mentions talent, is roy jones, but roy's trmendous power probabley came from an abundance of roids, so with that in mind i'd say ray leonard was the most talented fighter ever, he had the co-ordination, speed, power, chin, could fight inside and outside, everything
Both of them are confirmed steroid cheats and are totally over rated by American fans who want to live in the past.
Toney was a CW by the time he was cheating so your argument is useless. Prime Toney beats GGG to a pulp. GGG's best win is Daniel Geale and you try to critasise Toney and Jones. And I'm not American so don't try that card. GGG is boring compared to a prime James Toney, go watch the Barkley fight and see real boxing. Barkley would body bag GGG never mind Jones.
I've stated how much I rate Toney on numerous occasions.
The man is the best inside fighter I've ever seen. There is something truly special in watching Toney at his best; the slipping, rolling and countering from the pocket remains unmatched.
Toney the most skilled, Jones Jr the most athletically gifted, and Hopkins not born with great athleticism or talent but the hardest working, and it shows what hard work and discipline can do.
I'm 100% with you on this one! Toney was more skilled than Roy Jones, but Roy was the most athletically gifted.
Tony is the most over rated boxer of all time. All of these "slick" steroid frauds like Roy Jones and Toney are only as good as their record shows.
Imagine what Golovkin or Kovalev would do to Roy and Toney. Benn and Eubank would have crushed them too.
A prime Roy Jones would probably beat both guys on the same night. James Toney would beat both in tough fights. The man was a middle weight who beat heavyweights for God's sakes!
I agree with Freddie completely. Prime James Toney was an ATG. One of the most fun, talented fighters you could ver see, and he had the mentality to back it up.
This is what I like about Roach, even though he has an ATG in his stable he doesn't answer every question with the answer being Manny. He actually tells you the truth from his point of view even if that means he doesn't think his ATG fighter (Manny) is the best.
For example he could have easily said Manny here and no one would be surprised because that's his star fighter and Manny is extremely talented.
Another example is when someone asked him who would win Manny or Duran and he picked Duran.
Compare that to a certain other gym where the answer is the same from the mouths of the gym cleaners to the fighters who train there and from the trainers.
Toney didn't live up to his potential, but he would have always been beaten by Roy Jones. Footspeed and angles were Toneys weakness. His style works best against punchers. I dont think theres any MW punchers who beat him.
It shows how talented he truly was because his career had some great moments, even with his lack of discipline.
I agree, Jones style wise is the guy who would have Toney number, like How Marquez has Pacs style nightmare, and Norton had Ali's.
Toney was flat footed and would scoot step like Canelo does and unleash bombs on you with those short crisp compact shots, he liked guys who fought in close or pressured him, its why he told Roy Jones Jr to get his track shoes ready he knew Roy would run as he called it.
James Toney is a great inside fighter, this dude doesn't hold at all and he would just land on you slip and land.
The saddest part is Toney and Hopkins never fought, that would have been a interesting match up.
But Toney was so lazy he refused to do road work and conditioning and hit the buffet to often.
I thought of the Holy Trinity of Jones, Hopkins, and Toney, James was the most skilled. Not the most disciplined, however.
Toney the most skilled, Jones Jr the most athletically gifted, and Hopkins not born with great athleticism or talent but the hardest working, and it shows what hard work and discipline can do.
