So I was looking at this fight again tonight but just last night I was watching Lewis Holyfield and damn .. it looks like two totally different fighters
Lewis was way past prime yet he still managed to beat Vitali into submission via 6th round tko
Does this show how great Lewis was or how **** Vitali is?

He's 1 out of 1 in reality.
Troll on...
You say I'm the troll, yet you troll my post by taking my quote out of context, why not post the whole quote? "With that said, my point still stands, without injury or cuts Lennox Lewis would lose to Vitali 10 out of 10 times"
Larry Merchant has never boxed and doesn't know what it is like to be in a match with a serious injury like that. With that said, my point still stands, without injury or cuts Lennox Lewis would lose to Vitali 10 out of 10 times, and he knows it. That's why he reacted the way that he did after the fight, he finally fought a fighter that he knew that he couldn't beat.
THIS^^^
Vitali is just a better+stronger boxer than Lewis imo.
I don't think any version of Lewis could have beat the best Vitali under any normal circumstances.
That is a fact.
And everyone knows it ;)
With someone who says "Vitali just had his number"?
No, I have no interest in engaging someone who spouts off something like that.
Troll elsewhere.
I'm not trolling anything, it's the truth, when you can't outbox a guy nor can you knock him out, what else can you possibly do to beat him other than an injury, dq, etc?
I don't think Lewis was shot but I don't think he was in very good shape. I also think he realized what kind of torture he would need to put himself through to stay on top of Wlad and Vitali and he just wasn't up to it and retired.
you mean like when he quit against Byrd when you mentioned injuries?
The guy flat out quit and a shocked and angry Larry Merchant nearly spat out his false teeth,He was sickened to say the least

Watch that fight again & you'll see most of Kirks body punchers were legit but Ruiz was looking for an Oscar as well as a DQ You'll also see a Ruiz headbutt blatantly delivered right in front of Cortez. Cortez said he didn't see it but he saw all the " low blows Ruiz was crying about, LOL Kirks only mistake was to keep throwing body punches but as he said he knew Ruiz wouldn't take many more
.
Johnson went low plenty of times in that fight.
Did Ruiz embellish? Maybe.
But Johnson went low multiple times...just as he did against Al Cole.
Cortez did a bad job in the fight, he mishandled the end of the 9th when Ruiz had Johnson hurt.
And if you never scratched out your face in that pic of blubber you uploaded of yourself we could photoshop your face sucking a **** from a gay **** dvd cover titled "wlads boy"
way to stay on topic, in your own thread too :fing02:
Was that book written by Lennox?? No Try his official autobiography that one is authentic :)
yeah but as you just said, a major reason behind his retirement was likely his family convincing him, and knowing what happened vs Vitali it made it the more understanding that he in fact did blatantly duck the rematch.
From the 2004 biography,
he's ready to take his mother's advice of retirement, marriage, family and a new career as a global entrepreneur.

Kirk Johnson didn't look good against Ruiz even when he did keep his punches up.

Vitali revealed years ago that Lennox' mum didn't allow the rematch.
Lennox promised me but his mum decided he wasn't going to fight. He invited me to London, without managers. He said he wanted to talk just together. I came to the room and his mum is there. We talked for two hours and his mum was looking at me and scanning me.
After that I went away and he called me a couple of hours later and said, 'Sorry, but no'. I felt it wasn't his decision, his mum decided. I tried to change his decision, but it's difficult.
But I was appreciative to Lennox Lewis that I got the chance to prove my skills against the toughest fighter in the world. But he was lucky, because I was ahead before the doctor stopped the fight with the cut.

One part of this is true Lennox Mother Violet & his wife , incidently also named Violet, had been pressing for Lennox to retire for a while. After beating Vitali there was nothing to keep Lennox fighting. So he retired & stayed retired despite many multi million $$$ offers to come back

:lol1: Piss off Landa!
As IF Vitali retired because he was too lazy, he was in his 40's and had had 10 more fights than Lewis did too and there was also that little business in the Ukraine he had to attend to. The guy went out on a great note, not with a controversial win over the next great.
Which version of Lewis would have blew Vitali out exactly?
The further back you go, the smaller and less experienced the Lennox Lewis to use..
Vitali has ALWAYS been in great shape too, he simply isn't bodybuilt like Wladimir is which anyone knows isn't really necessary for boxing.
Apart from DQ loss to Ruiz when he was not in form and his loss to Vitali, the guy had 37 straight wins, 37!!! Including a win over top/underrated Larry Donald and a KO over HW champ Oleg Maskaev.
If LEnnox had beaten Kirk Johnson, it would have been among his best wins! That is a fact!
Vitali couldn't even make it to the ring against Hasim Rahman.
Yes the Kirk Johnson I knew in Dallas was a very good boxer. What screwed Kirk up was the way he was robbed by academy award acting by John Ruiz & blatant corruption by Cortez. If you watch that fight again you'll see that the" Low blow" Ruiz cried about & Cortez claimed he saw, was indeed a legitimate scoring punch. Ruiz had been KO'd but instead got DQ'd Kirk lost heart after that

But you choose to forget that Vitali was a PROVEN steroid abuser. He got kicked off the Olympic team over it. If he was still using that could very well be the cause of his many "injuries" & lay offs
