The fight between Matthysse and Provodnikov it's almost confirmed for the 28th of march. Both fighters are ranked in the top 5 of both WBC and WBO ratings. While WBO title is vacant, the WBC title hasn't been defended by his champion for almost a year. Should Matthysse and Provodnikov fight for any of this world titles?
Edit: in the poll option 2 should be "WBC" instead of "WBO", i couldn't fix it...
I know, Andrade was going to get the shot at Korobov ahead of 14 other actual MWs.
It happens, but is it right? I don't think so.
Champions are allowed voluntaries, Collazo wasn't forced to fight Hatton. This situation is different because it's mandated by the sanctioning body.
My complaint is a guy from a division below leapfrogging 15 fighters to a vacant title shot.
Doesn't change the fact that Hatton leaped over more deserving fighters. You can look at it any way you want but it doesn't change that fact.
Because that's a rule with certain sanctioning bodies. Example: WBO 135 belt holder moves up in weight, gets automatic shot at the WBO title. This has happened a bunch of times (think Joan Guzman moving up in weight and immediately getting a crack at Nate Campbell (he didn't make weight but that's a different story)).

What difference does it make that it's vacant?

Your complaint is skipping over more deserving fighters. Hatton did the exact same thing for a belt. If that was truly your complaint you would have a problem with Hatton doing it too. Otherwise you're being disingenuous.

Sure. Why not?
Let's sanction an NSB light welter weight title.
Some of you guys that make the fancy sigs can collaborate on a design and the winner of the fight creates an account and has the belt as his sig .
Bigpoppapump declares the NSB belt the only true Championship belt and The Ban Stick bans anybody that says otherwise.
We take the sanctioning fees and throw a party in Vegas once a year for members with more than 4 years of membership.
I don't really care,,, vacate title fight, interim, maybe an elimantor,, as long as they fight, I will be happy
This. Just make sure it's 12 rounds and I'm happy.
Why should it be? Neither has done anything since their last title fights to warrant it. People complaining about Crawford. Crawford actually won his belt and is actually a reigning lineal champion. I have no issue with him moving up n getting an immediate shot. There's nothing unusal about that in all in fact.
And this is a good arguement actually. I would really want to see a Provo-Matthysse fight but why it should be for the vacated belt? Provodnikov just lost that belt. It was a debatable fight but I wouldn't call it a robbery. It could go either wy or other. And after that Provo beat up a shopworn, old Castillo. I don't think that he deserves a direct title shot because that win. If he beats Matthysse then yes he will be a credible challanger for the belt again.
Yeah I think it should. Still not sure why Crawford is getting a shot.
Blame the WBO, this is their rule. Crawfor just (probably) lives with the opportunity.
I still try to figure out what Crawford did that he already has plenty of haters on this board.
You forgot an option I voted for "No they shouldn't" but I think that the winner of this fight will be the first mandatory challanger of Algieri-Crawford (probably Crawford).
And as for Algieri... Yes he was really unimpressive against Pac, his style wasn't entertaining etc... but be fair, the WBO's decision to take away his belt because one single fight with Pac on cw was a disgrace and wasn't fair with him so I don't mind if he gets a shot again immediately to that belt. Otherwise I feel sorry for Lucas because I think he is the third or second best fighter in his otherwise stacked weightclass and he has just one real loss and he should be a world champion by now if there wasn't a ridiculous cw on the Peterson fight and I feel fsorry for him particularly because I think that next to Garcia, Crawford is the only who beats him from 140 and he'll lose in a world title fight again. But I hope after that he will collect one of Danny's vacated belts.
It's a vacant title though, I never understood how a fighter can come from a division below and jump everyone in the division above to get an automatic vacant title shot. Doesn't seem right.
In saying that, I'd like to see Crawford v Matthysse. It's Crawford-Algieri which would piss me off.
Yeah, but that wasn't a vacant title. Collazo was champion iirc.

Who cares, this fight transcends any of those trinket titles anyways. Just because you put one of those title belts on the line doesn't mean anything other than the fighters are getting paid a little less. The winner of this fight will be declared 'King Badass'.
Honestly I'd prefer if this was only a 10 rounds (just in case it goes that long), to potential preserve these guys for a potential rematch.
I think a world title is not a minor detail for Lucas. It means a lot for him and his family, which is a family of boxers. He won't move up in weight until he get a belt in 140.
As much as I may not like the title holders, I hate it when they strip belts from one person and just give it to another person. Once they strip it from one person and give it to another person, there is no lineage to it. With out lineage, there is no legitimacy. In other words, the belt is as useless as used toilet paper.
Ricky Hatton got an automatic title shot against Collazo. Happens all the time.
Its literally been happening for decades and No1 has had an issue with it.

I think they should fight for the WBO title. I had Provodnikov beating Algieri and Crawford shouldn't get an automatic title shot. Just my opinion.
Garcia lost to Herrera, last defended his mandatory in 2013 and paid Postol step-aside money so he should be stripped but looking at the WBC rankings Provodnikov (#5) shouldn't be fighting for it.
