they got their torch from hoya, maybe they should be fighting to pass it on? they are both thinking of retiring soon and because they didn't fight in their prime now we have this issue that whoever wins today isn't gonna do much else afterwards, probabley just retire after that, having left nothing behind for the sport
i think if they have to fight till well into their 40's till some young thundercat finally sparks'em, so be it, if they just leave now there's nothing for the casual to look forward too
mikey garcia needs to move up quicker and fight crawford, then winner fights pacquiao at 140, it's a risk but it needs to be done
at some point mayweather should fight khan also
or do you think it wont really matter?
Who's worthy? Only guys I see are in much lover divisions who get no airtime or big money. Really the next fighter I see actually having a chance at being great is Roman Gonzalez.
I don't think Oscar has that much to do with their success and Oscar sure didn't lose on purpose to pass a torch. If they keep fighting long enough they will lose but I don't get the passing the torch stuff although I have heard the sayings often enough. Mayweather hates losing and he will do his best not to. Pacquiao just loves a good fight and doesn't worry about losing.
Yes and No
Yes, because we need some kind of superstar to keep boxing alive and relevant.
No, because there is still incredible talent like GGG and Kovalev. If they continue fighting the best and wins them. They could be the next superstar. Ill add Canelo too because his ppv star now like Floyd and Pac used to be before fighting Oscar. He just needs more convincing wins to eclipse his defeat to floyd.
There a few talents in lower weights too, but it's hard to be superstar there.
The torch has been in boxing since Ali to Leonard to Tyson to Chavez to Hoya to Trinidad to Jones and now Pac and Mayweather. Once Pac and Mayweather either get retired or retire on their own, the cash cow crown will be up for grabs. I could see GGG going for it, if he moves up and beats Froch and Ward at 168.
can pass something no one worthy of yet.
No one and I mean no one is out there taht can take the torch from them (the way the real passing of the torch happens in boxing)
Even if the torch doesn't necessarily get passed on. The money is still there and has to go somewhere. A star will be emerge from the ashes of the hellfire they leave.
As others have said, the young guns need to yank the torch away from Mayweather/Pac and make them fall back. I would honestly prefer if Pac and Mayweather kept doing what they're doing right now instead of fighting each other. The problem is that contenders aren't being developed quick enough.
Floyd tried to pass the torch to Canelo..his dumbass dropped it and burned the blueprint Oscar gave him...Manny tried to pass it to Algeri and his trainer lost the damn key to the cage
LOL this>>>
Someone will creep out the woodwork eventually, and they don't necessarily have to beat Manny/Floyd to be the face of Boxing. If after they've retired someone comes along who is better than everyone else then they will become a star. Remember, there were stars after Ali, Leonard, etc.
Yeah I agree, guys need to make their own noise. The win alone isn't enough.
well, a win over Floyd or Pac would be enough to crown a new star but these guys have to go out there and get that win, not the BS Bradley pulled by the way but a real, sensational, non-controversial win, like Foreman over Frazier, Ali over Liston, Pacquiao over Barrera and so on.

The torch doesn't get passed, it gets taken
I'm sick of Floyd and his cherrypicks, dude will never fight Manny or someone fast for that matter.
All he does is cherrypicks slower fighters against whom he has HUGE speed advantage and boxes circles around them and ppl buy his sh*t.
He fought Judah(Who was considered faster than Floyd) and Mosley(Before he lost it) back when people were saying this about him. People were saying he would never fight Canelo, then people complained he was young and "not ready'' after he schooled him. The point is..some fighters will never get credit regardless of what they do.
PASS? NO! Somebody is suppose to TAKE IT from them! You don't pass no damn torch in boxing. How does Mayweather retiring undefeated Benefit the Sport IN GENERAL.
Sadly most fans today don't care about the SPORT IN GENERAL so they likely won't even be watching Boxing once the Fighter their a fan of either falls off or RETIRE
But Thurman Knocking Mayweather into Retirement and Vargas or Terrance Crawford beating Pacquiao would be EXCELLENT for the Sport after they're done. I just want to see the young guys get their SHOT to try and take the Throne like Canelo!
