Isn't anyone tired of this?
This cowardly desease is trickling down From the Top Earners of our sport right onto the New generation. They recite the same "financial " catch phrases when it comes time to defend their cowardly submission. Now guys with winning records get into b!tch mode when it comes to putting it all on the line, refusing to fight a threat because they finally realise they may not be all that great, and it doesn't make Financial sense to get KTFO!!!!
On a good note:
Next Noticeable competitive fight: Dontay Wilder vs Bermane Stiverne
See you then.
NO.
he can stop being a massive cvnt and change his style to be more crowd pleasing and appealing to watch on television.
IF he is such a boxing god why cant he do that?
If floyd freaking mayweather jr can be more offensive, if juan manuel marquez can change his style to be more offensive,
then why cant BOXING SUPER SAIYAN GOD rigondeaux?
GTFO.
rigo only has himself to blame for his lack of commercial success.
If Rigo was beatable, the other champs would have probably fought him by now. To milk those titles (including the one that matters) for all they are worth.
If fighters want to lose, they want to be paid to lose. Him being boring only becomes relevant when other fighters know the risk is way too high. The irony is though, other titlists in the division mean nothing unless they fight Rigo ... its a necessary evil unless they move out of 122.
Respect to Donaire
What about Marcos Maidana? We all know how Maidana fans use the "it doesn't make financial sense" argument when looking for excuses as to why he shouldn't fight Thurman.
who would want to watch Thurman run away from maidana when he ran from a guy that could not punch
You obviously haven't followed the sport for that long... fighters have been using that excuse since WAY before Floyd Mayweather Jr. was even pro.
but it didn't prevent the big fights, they still happened.
floyd took it to another, cowardly level.
It's just been an atrocious year in comparison to 2013. You know it's been a crappy year when Terence Crawford wins FOTY for having an above average year.
Exactly, I'm more impressed with Brook's win over Porter and Pacquiao's win over Bradley personally but that said, shit year.

this aint the 1930s where you only had baseball and the fcking radio to compete with.
its about to be 2015.
you are competing with internet pron, reality tv, 24 hr news scandals, and a host of more entertaining sh*t to do than watch some cuban amateur style tap dance his way to a shutout defensive decision that nobody finds entertaining to watch.
Agreed, I remember a few weeks ago some guy made a thread arguing that he was unpopular because he was Cuban, and that if he was Mexican he would be wildly popular, completely ignoring that Gamboa was/is pretty popular because of his style. I admire Rigo's boxing, but he literally put me to sleep during the Agbenko fight(to be fair I was watching the fight from my bed), dude needs to be more aggressive.
You know what's funny about this generation of promoters and fighters who try so hard to follow the Money Mayweather example? None of them remember Pretty Boy Floyd. That man spent a long time earning that sh*t. He didn't get protected to 30-0 and given PPV fights.
Funny how none of these guys who idolize him or promoters who try to recreate him seem to understand that.
Despite what he has become, he did pay dues. He did take risky fights and provide excitement in the ring when he was coming up.
Yeah...and now it seems increasingly like folks want to skip the paying dues part and (sadly) are more successful in dong so.
To know and demonstrate that you're the better man. Not to claim it. Not to talk endless sh1t to convince everybody (especially ones self). But to know it completely and without doubt. That used to count for something.
I thought this new generation was backing off the "it's all about teh benjaminz", image-over-substance paradigm a bit.
Maybe not.

yes, but in regards to rigondeaux, if he is the champ and p4p'er but has to fight in some unknowns hometown to draw, then yea, what's the point of fighting this guy? just for a tough fight? no reward, only hardcore fans know of the guy
You must be kidding.
A win over Rigo would make Quigg or Frampton huge in the UK, Santa Cruz would be considered p4p material if he was to bring home such a huge win.
The fight might not bring a lot of money by and for itself, but having Rigo in one's resume would do wonders for any superbantamweight/featherweight.
The point of fighting this guy is to give him the opportunity to make himself known to the average fan, not just the hardcore fans! That's how all the superstars of today made it! The elite knew deep down that the other dude was a threat and wanted to prove themselves to themselves and gave the unknown a shot!!!!
