LOL It's simple numbers really. Hispanics are one of the biggest supporters of boxing and buyers of PPV. Roughly there are about 50 million or so Hispanics in the US. Of those Hispanics it is estimated that about 39 million are Mexican or Mexican American. Why wouldn't you want to maximize your buying clientele by fighting on a Mexican holiday? It's not as if they're going to be fighting for Canelo or helping him in the ring. Add to that most Mexicans I know actually respect Cotto.

if cotto-canelo wont budge from may2, and pac-floyd ppv price would probably be $100, then it should happen before may 2 if they want to maximize revenue. some ppl wont have the budget buying consecutive ppvs.

I think if Cotto/Canelo happens in May the Mayweather either waits till September or there has been talks about him fighting the weekend before May 2nd.

Cotto's team has gone on record saying they want the fight on the day its going to maximise PPV buys. That date is May 2nd in Vegas. I hope we get an official announcement for Canelo/Cotto before the end of the year.
