I literally had to stop watching the fights last night because of how annoyed I was by him. He just has always came off as a "know it all" and he constantly refutes what the other commentator is saying.
The way he animates gets on my nerves too. Anyone else share this sentiment?

I definitely don't find him annoying, Teddy is an old boxing mastermind, he was versed in the school of Cus and trained an ATG in Tyson, he actually has solid analogies, and knows the sport better than most. To be honest, I would rather see Atlas commentate on major Top Rank or GBP cards than FNF tomato can fights, especially over idiots like Larry Fing Merchant, or Jim Lampley. Jim has been around the sport of boxing longer than most of the posters on NSB and he still knows jack about it.
I love Teddy, and though I can see why some of you don't, I'm still surprised by the hate.
Unlike most of these commentators(not all) these days (see: empty half blind hype men), Teddy knows the ins and outs of this sport, and has been partaking in for decades.
I look at him as Cus' protégée.
He is not at all like these other generic guys that spend most of the time either looking for something to talk about, talking about something other than the fight/or related, or screaming BAM BOOM BANG
Teddy keeps it 100%, and I love his insight. He is of a breed you don't see these days in this sport, a la Bert Sugar (R.I.P).
I think more trainers should become commentators.
Speaking on the Banks/Klitschko issue, I didn't see it as hate. He made a legitimate point IMO.
It is a little unorthodox as it is, boxing professionally and also training professionally, let alone both being in the same division; And the cherry on top is the person he trains is the heavy weight champion of the world.
It makes sense that Klitschko might question his ability after watching him get KO'd by an out of shape, overweight, and old Tarver (Not taking anything away from Tarver, other than his gut). Banks is the bigger man, and should have won, or at least not have got KO'd.
Most annoying person involved with boxing. And that is saying something when Paulie and Sechbach are around.
Paulie isn't annoying when he's commentating though. Sechback is just a ****** lol
Atlas is great for the sport. HE has an objective mind and tells it how it is. I think his comments are necessary most of the time, however, I will admit that he can sometimes go against the grain to simply go against the grain. Constructing opinions for the sole purpose of contradicting... He's a cool dude and his comments the other day were necessary
No he's just brutally honest and most people haven't been conditioned to see brutally honest people on TV.
Doesn't sugar coat anything for anyone, any promotional company or network.
I'd rather him over most boxing analyst.
100% in agreement! He is not the next Nostradamus when it comes to predicting outcomes of fights but I like his passion for the sport and his honesty!
Sometimes he is just too much for me. He often makes good points but beats them into the ground and I turn the folume down.
Exactly. He says the same thing way too damn much
I don't always agree with teddy but he loves the sport more than any other announcer IMO and puts guys on blast for blatant robberies which I think everyone can appreciate.
I think he misses Joe Tessitore too
Joe would control teddy much better than Grisham or Bernardo can, plus joe just knows more about boxing than the other guys. Espn needs to bring joe back on the ringside with teddy.
I'd rather him be there than not. I tune him out a lot of the time - but I am glad he is there when robberies occur; or when there is a hot topic in boxing that I might want to hear differing opinions on.
I agree with you though... he gives the other commentator too much grief. Grisham doesn't know much about boxing, but I imagine he has like 57 other jobs at ESPN.
I agree. One of the few things I like about him is that he speaks out against robberies and such
About the Klits part, he just sees it as it is, they are Leaders of a DEAD division, period.
Atlas is someone who lives and watched the sport thrive with the HW division, now to see most HW's are SLOPPY and careless, he just doesn't think they have weathered adversity such as the great HW of the past.
Back in the 80's and 90's, being a HW doesn't mean you are 200lbs of fat, look at Holyfield, Tyson, Lewis, Louise back in the day.
Now look at HW fighters of today, dudes can barely breathe with the exception of maybe 4 HW's, they don't pride themselves anymore.
He goes out of his way to hate on them enough to make it clear he is biased against them. It was really bad when he was training Povetkin.

Atlas has his biases like everyone else. You'll rarely hear him say a good word about the Klitschkos, for instance, and he doesn't seem to like Pacquiao too much.

Boxing is so much of a dirty sport, people don't understand him.
Dude is sick of people getting TAXED in the ring and getting their hand raised, just because of their popularity or what the promoter or networks want.
As I said before people are so used to the standard Network, Promotional company, fighter Bias, when you have someone shoot str8 they take it is bad.
Lampley = HBO bought
Ledderman = HBO bought
Max Kellerman = about as neutral as they come at HBO
Dan Rafeal = Top Rank bought
Teddy Atlas = Neutral, doesn't give a F

I love his passion for the sport........but if tells me about that "bad neighborhood" one more time ima shoot myself in the throat
"It is a bad neighborhood he has to walk though and without a jab it is like walking through that bad neighborhood with one arm".
He always act like a kid on tantrum when he doesn't get what he wants. If you disagree with him better watch out cuz he's gonna try to pull his credential and his great boxing knowledge. Watching him is insufferable
LOL Teddy does a great job, people don't like him because he doesn't say what THEY WANT TO HEAR! If he did the typical "Praise Pacquiao, Bash Mayweather" Song and Dance most of you would LOVE HIM!
For me, it's not about WHAT he's saying. I respect everyone's opinion. It's how he comes across. I love that he's so passionate about the sport and how he tells it like it is, but he's just annoying as hell most of the time
