So, a lot of talk about who it should be, a thread on Crawford and a top 5 article on BS but I wanted to get everyone's opinion and to know who you guys think should be recognised as the top 10 contenders for the title? Here's mine:
1. Manny Pacquiao
2. Sergey Kovalev
3. Nicholas Walters
4. Terrence Crawford
5. Miguel Cotto
6. Gennady Golovkin
7. Roman Gonzalez
8. Wladimir Klitschko
9. Naoya Inoue
10. Saul Alvarez
Poll added: can only have 10 options so if anyone wants to vote Amnat Ruenroeng or Lomachenko can just post a comment. I can't see either guy being rated above the 10 I just did but they did have good years, just not good enough.
1. pac
2. crawford
3. kovalev
4. wlad
5. roman gonzalez
6. lomachenko
7. walters
8. miguel cotto
9. carl frampton
10. gennady golovkin
why is loma above walters?
You have missed one of the strongest contenders: Amnat Ruenroeng
Didn't he lose this year? I thought he did but cba to check boxrec
Good post
Winner of the fight between the 2 next year can get FOTY or winner of you know who
This year PAC is the ONLY guy to beat a PRIME ELITE opponent.
spot on
The way Roman Gonzalez is getting overrated on here is unbelievable. Well, for what he's done in 2014.
Roman Gonzalez's 2014:
Juan Kantun TKO6 - Bum
Juan Purisima TKO3 - Bum
Akira Yaegashi TKO9 - Great Win
Rocky Fuentes TKO6 - Fringe Contender
And other than Yaegashi, all of Gonzalez's opponents were coming off of losses.
Meanwhile Juan Francisco Estrada has done virtually the same thing, yet I haven't seen his name mentioned once.
Juan Francisco Estrada's 2014:
Richie Mepranum TKO10 - Fringe Contender
Giovani Segura TKO11 - Great Win
Joebert Alvarez on Saturday - Undefeated Bum
havent seen enough of estrada so I wont comment on that
I had to check again, because I had the same question :lol1:
Bradley & Algieri .......... FOTY worthy? I don't think so - Sorry!!
One candidate is Crawford with wins over (Burns, Gamboa & Beltran)
Another legitimate candidate is Kovalev (Agnew, Caparello & Hopkins)
of all those name mentioned in your post, who is the best at this stage in time?
1. pac
2. crawford
3. kovalev
4. wlad
5. roman gonzalez
6. lomachenko
7. walters
8. miguel cotto
9. carl frampton
10. gennady golovkin
Good list :boxing:

Yea those are the only candidates.
Who did PAC beat?

But Ricky Bums doe
But Raymundo Beltran doe
Terence Crawford went to fight in Scotland so he should be FOTY :lol1:
going to scotland DOES make the win more impressive, nobody is saying simply travelling should get someone FOTY so stop being silly. if you however beat a good fighter and happen to go half way across the world to beat them in their backyard that makes the win all the more impressive. especially a place like scotland thats both had recent controversy in a similar situation (burn-beltran) and which has such a ruckus and passionate home crowd.
but more importantly burns is just a good fighter, many people were considering him the premier lightweight before the beltran fight and crawford just beat him too. those are both impressive wins, neither is the best win of the year or even close. but combine those and the gamboa fight and you have a great year overall.
unless you have a marquez-pacquiao 4 type performance its hard to win FOTY with one fight and it should be. as the name states it awards a fighter for his body of work over the course of the entire year.
why wasnt dawson considered for FOTY when he beat a younger, fresher and better hopkins than kovalev did? because he lost in the same year and that detracts from his overall performance. just as every win crawford and gonzalez pulled of collectively put them in a very good position despite not being able to rival walters, pacquiao or even kovalev for individual wins.

tony bellew
if not bellew then pacquaio for being the only guy who beat PRIME ELITE fighter
and i would have herrera in there instead of canelo
bellew? lol what?
Its a two man race between Pacquiao or Kovalev
yeah i can see that, i think pac has a win over the most highest rated opponent, apart from possibly walters over donaire but it depends on opinions on those two.
I think it's Crawford or Walters.
Pacquiao and Kovalev both had really good individual wins, but those wins weren't good enough IMO. Both Crawford and Walters went from potential to champs with multiple impressive wins this year.
And there's definitely no way Cotto or Golovkin had better years than Gonzalez.
cotto beat the best guy in his division, obviously post fight we found out he was in terrible condition but still it carries some weight. obviously another fight at some stage would have helped.
three man race between Crawford, Gonzalez and Walters. Pacquiao deserves to be mentioned too but i don't think he should win.
like i already said, pac beat the best guy of anyone on that list. but walters and crawford arent a bad shout.
1. Crawford - 3 wins against 3 good opponents
2. Walters..sick knockouts of Vic and Nonaire
3. Kovalev...Huge power and showing that he is a very good boxer and a vastly underrated athlete
4. Pacquaio...Looked good against Algieri and won 8 or 9 rounds against Bradley, which I'm not sure anyone else can do.
5. Golovkin - Say what you want about his opposition but nobody else in the world is knocking out Geale in 3 and Rubio in 2...Adama had also never been stopped in his career and GGG stopped him, knocked him down multiple times even with a jab.
Cotto only fought once which disqualifies him.
Roman Gonzalez should probably be on the list but I actually only saw one of his fights.
Mayweather had 2 wins, but just didn't look as good as he did in 2013.
