I just had an epiphany of sorts, if I had to pick a favorite promoter (I don't and neither does anyone else but anyway) It would be Main Events for sure.
This is pure opinion of course, but I think they have been making the best fights with what they have for years-hands down. Arum knows how to make a star, Don made good fights here and there between scamming his guys, Golden Boy was the light at the end of the tunnel for guys for a while but was kind of medicore in making good fights considering the fighters they had available, and Haymon is pretty much cancer.
They just don't seem to baby guys (see Vargas) and it makes for some fun fights (see Vargas/Trinidad)
Thoughts?
I interviewed for an internship at Main Events last summer (didn't get it), one of the things they say they like to do is have their interns go on boxing forums (such as this) and hype their product.
Just throwing that nugget of information out there. I like what Kathy Duva's done for Kovalev's career, but all in all I find the NBC telecasts they have put on to contain far too many mismatches. If you're going to pick a promoter not named Arum or De La Hoya or Haymon then maybe I'd go with Lou DiBella, he looks out for the interests of his fighters but will put them in good scraps too, and isn't afraid to work with other promoters.
I don't mind Dibella either, but I think Kathy admitted that she didn't have a deep enough roster to do what she wanted to on NBC.
