First off, I think ggg is a great fighter, with great potential. There's nothing he cannot do in the ring and he certainly passes the eye test. But I want to get into his opponents. Now I know a good amount of fighters ducked or are ducking him atm. His competition is comparable to a young champion or prospect instead of someone with 10+ defenses of his title. For example... Gabriel rosado, a prospect Alfredo angulo kod him in 2, charlo comfortablely beat him, and I know it was really close but quillin beat him. When we think of rosado who's his best win? Sechew Powell? Bkb Brian Vera? Or a should've been decision over jleon love? Now to Matt Macklin... A good fighter, nothing special at all. Should've gotten a few decisions his way, but hey that's boxing. Put up a good fight against Sergio but ended up getting stopped. Against ggg he was absolutely terrified and didnt do anything, and just this past weekend got kod again, proving he's only a fringe contender at best. Now Curtis Stevens... I more so remember Stevens for his atrocious fight vs dirrell which he was dominated, and getting beaten to a pulp and dropped by Brinkley. So he drops to 160 gets first round kos over bum journeymen like Saul Roman, and all of a sudden hes this great puncher. But Stevens has never kod a top fighter, the best he's kod was Johnson and he was being dominated that fight, and then got dominated by ndam. Now... Adama, this just explains it all he's never fought or beat anyone, he was there to pad ggg record. Daniel geale... This was definitely his best win, geale was the only world champion ggg ever faced and he destroyed him, props to him for that. Now Rubio... He's lost all his title fights, his best win is over David lemeiux. Rubio is the same as Macklin a fringe contender who cannot get over the hump.
Now looking at these wins... Theyre good but they're all pretty much in the same boat, journeymen if you cannot beat these guys you don't belong at world level, they are pretty much stepping stones for upcoming guys. BTW this post was unbiased so I'm not a ggg hater just calling it how it is
Cotto fan wanting Golovkin to move up shocker...Golovkin's in the right division, how about Cotto vacates the lineal title instead of masquerading as a MW?
Wrong, I would love for Cotto to fight GGG as I think GGG is so many damn flaws.
It's kind of sad how HW and MW, probably the two most prestigious divisions in the history of boxing, are in such bad shape.
In the golden years of Hagler, Monzon, Griffith, there wasn't so many weight divisions. Alot of the JMW's we have today are as big or bigger than alot of MW's. In the golden years those guys would've been competing at the top of the MW division giving it depth and more excitement. Charlo, Lara, Andrade, Alvarez, Kirkland, and JRock all at MW would make it the top division in the sport.
MMA got it right, they didn't copy boxing and dilute their weight divisions. The ABC orgs did it because they realized they could rake in more sanctioning fees. MMA doesn't share that incentive as an org acts as a private league.
The MW division has always suffered since the early 90's when they created the JMW & SMW divisions. That said, Golovkin's career at MW is very much on par with Bernard Hopkins career.
Bernard won the IBF title at age 30 against Mercado who's at the same level as Milton Nunez. Nard then made his next 12 title defenses against either unaccomplished fighters like Glenn Johnson, Robert Allen, Antwun Echols, Andrew Council or shot JMW's like John David Jackson and Simon Brown.

GGG fan not wanting Golovkin to move up and challenge himself.
Cotto is NOT a MW.
One fight at 160 does not a middleweight make.
and Golovkin is, let Cotto defend his title already or gtfo out of the division.
I have no issue with Golovkin moving up to fight Ward or anyone else but I'm reading it from too many Cotto fans when their guy has no business sitting clucking on the lineal title.
Like Flomos, they just want Golovkin out of the way so they don't have to defend the ducking.
Because none of those fights are going to happen, other than perhaps a Cotto rematch if it's competitive/great fight. There would be a huge demand for a Canelo vs Golovkin fight if Canelo wins the strap, easily one of the biggest fights in the sport.
I'm not saying GGG must wait on Canelo, but this idea that fighters have to move up in weight is a bit absurd. Same goes for guys like Ward or Rigondeaux. If they are comfortable at their weight class and that is the best weight class for that fighter, then they should stay there if they want. Unless some crazy payday opportunity comes around.
he doesnt necessarily has to move up, he can also fight at 154 since most of his fans claim he will make weight easily, there is more talent in that division...
The middle weight division is one of the worst divisions in boxing and beating top 10/5 opponents doesn't mean jack shlt. However, GGG is just doing what he should be doing and that's beating these D/C level fighters (good for him). He needs to move up to 168 where he'll find better quality fighters.

Hopkins was fighting all the top tten guys that were available to him. Much like GGG, politics played a role in Hopkins inability to unify the belts sooner, as the two other title holders were promoted by Don King and he wouldn't allow them to fight Hopkins. That's very similar to GGG not being able to fight Peter Quillin for his title (before he was stripped) because of the network feud, or Sergio Martinez/DiBella unwilling to make the fight, and Felix Sturm as well.
In the end, Hopkins patience finally paid off. If he would have moved up to 168 because of lack of big names, he would never have fought Trinidad and Oscar, who obviously really put Hopkins on the map and became a star. The same can happen with GGG if he waits for Canelo.
what if canelo rematches cotto, or gets a fight with chavez jr or even pac? he will get much more money for those fights while GGG keeps waiting, and who knows if hbo wants to put his 2 future stars at each other anytime soon, doesnt sound like a good business for them... i know canelo will want this fight but keep in mind he signed a long term contract and is no longer his own boss like he was at showtime... ggg can't just depend on canelo...
How about a trip one division north..is that too much to ask for such a so-called great fighter.?
This isn't some 23 y/o kid we're talking about...it's now or never.
or even campaign at 154 vs skilled fighters like booboo or lara, then he can get a shot at any of the big names in the division... up or down just go somewhere you can get better fights... instead of waiting for the big fights to come at you..
