Floyd has fought many accomplished professional champions over his long career but how many have had that Olympic background? Oscar De La Hoya comes to mind but who else?
Geez I haven't posted on NSB in so long and it's no wonder why. I ask a legit question, then posters accuse me of having a hidden agenda and we get into a pointless debate about something else, all the while the question is being ignored.
No and I would have thought you'd have enough brains to know that wasn't my intent. I've always respected Floyd but I asked this question because I was thinking about who his next opponent should be. Great amateur fighters have a certain style to them, fast hands, fast feet, good jab and in and out boxing. Oscar, Judah, Mosely and to a lesser extent Cotto have those attributes and in my opinion they gave Floyd quite a bit of trouble. Guys like Canelo, Ortiz, Maidana, JMM don't have that certain style and why they really struggled against Floyd. I think Khan should be Mayweathers next opponent if not Pac because he has all those tributes.
So you made this thread to hype up Khan???lmfao
Likewise I'd explore why some fighters never won gold, Roy Jones for example being victim of corruption. Shane Mosley would have come very close to winning gold as well had his time not clashed with Vernon Forest for an Olympic spot. Zab Judah missed out too David Diaz who I know sfa about in his amateur days. He was an average pro so don't really know how good he would have been as an amateur. Also I don't know about that 22 page article about Judah on sports illustrated and neither does google, which just proves my point from before.
They were considered great amateurs. Winning a gold medal isn't the end all be all to being a great amateur. This really shouldn't come as news to you.
Well that explains that. Maybe Judah just had an off night?
Mosley missing out to Forest is no shame at all. Forest was a beast.
Cotto being knocked out by the eventual gold medallist is fair enough.
how good was zabs amateur background?
very good. he missed the olympics in a huge upset, having been considered among the gold medal favorites after winning several national and NYC golden gloves titles.
mosleys amateur career was about the same, won multiple meaningful titles but missed out on the big one when he failed to qualify for the olympics.
cotto also had a great amateur career, he did make it to the olympics but lost in the first round to the eventual gold medalist.
sharmba mitchell, victor ortiz, demarcus corley, ricky hatton, robert guerrero and marcos maidana all had solid amateur careers. none of them were stand outs, but they had many fights at a high level and did well.
hatton competed internationally, ortiz and guerrero won their share of big tournaments, corley and mitchell were around but fell short, maidana was on the argentine national team and doing very well.
Lol. You sound a bit butthurt dude. What difference does it make how many "accomplished" amateurs he's faced? If you were genuinely looking for amateur records, your thread title would've read "Can anyone help me find amateur boxing records?" or something similar.
no I'm just sick of dealing with trolls like you. I asked a question about the accomplished amateurs he's fought and I end up getting a bunch of trolls like you giving me stupid replies. Someone tells me to google it, I said you can't find that info on google and asked him provide the amateur details of a certain fighter to prove just how hard it is to find info on amateurs. And that amateur boxer has a ton of hype behind him and was an olympic gold medalist, if info on amateurs was readily available surely info on Joshua would have been available. You guys continue to call my thread stupid without even doing my exercise should prove to be much easier. Then you guys still don't fuck off.
Dude fuck off. This was a legit question, there is hardly any info on amateur boxing. I've given you a much simpler exercise to do and you can't do it, yet you're calling my question dumb.

how good was zabs amateur background?
I've heard it was good but maybe someone who has that sort of knowledge could elaborate. He had the perfect style for amateur boxing - fast hands, fast feet, good jab and even power.
You sir are a retard Floyd himself only won bronze that means he wasn't a great amateur boxer? The guy who's butthole you wna lick only won silver yet he was a superb amateur.
Exactly where did I say Khan was a great amateur? You're putting words in my mouth, I know you'd like things put in your mouth but I'm not like that.
You made a really dumb thread, yet we're the retards? Lol.

No, that's not how it's defined in boxing. zab Judah had a 22-page article on him in Sports Illustrated before turning pro. That's how much of a great amateur he was considered. Mosley as well. But you're entitled to your opinion.

There's no single definition for a great amateur in boxing, it's all opinionated. Winning a gold medal is a bench mark I would set or getting close to it, of course if they don't for some deeper reason then i'd take that into consideration. It's like saying Larry Holmes is greater then Ali because he beat him, but when you look into that fight you'd soon realise Ali came out of retirement to fight for money.
To me a great amateur would have won Olympic gold. Google has hardly information on amateur boxers careers, if you don't believe me answer my question from the post above.

It's a legitimate question you retards. There's sfa about boxers in there amateur days on the internet, the best place to find that type of information is on here. Here's an exercise to prove what I'm saying, try to find the amateur career of Anthony Joshua?
I only mentioned Khan before because the poster thought I was bashing Floyd when in fact I wasn't.

What about Roy Jones?
You said "ok amateurs". No, they were great amateurs.
Use Google.

People who dont realize this is a veiled Khan thread are pretty slow. Nice job getting around having to post it on the Khan thread well played sir well played. Khan still gets ktfo and hasn't done sh*t to merit the fight tho.
Indeed. I actually missed the OPs last post somehow prior to my previous one.

Which is why I acknowledged them! Judah would have been an excellent amateur from observation, incredibly fast hands, incredibly fast feet, power and a good jab. Mosley had decent speed, good jab and pretty skilled. I read his missed out because of Vernon Forest who would have been an excellent amateur too. Corrales was a bit slow, didn't think he would have had a good amateur career but ok.
How do you look it up? There's hardly any information about amateur boxing.
