GGG vs Hopkins,Kovalev and Stevenson at 175

How is he not big? You mean not tall? He's bigger than these guys. Him fighting MW's is like Broner fighting Lightweights and it's pretty plain to see. Hagler might not have fought LHW's but Hearns sure did and CW's. Great point!:boxing:

GGG isn't even a big middleweight. No way we should expect him to move two divisions and face the best fighters in those divisions. No one expected Marvin Hagler to fight light heavyweights let alone super middleweights so why should we think about GGG fighting them? GGG should just stay at middleweight and dominate all challengers.

Kovalev at 175 would be a very dangerous fight for GGG so why should he risk it? Hopkins started his career at 175. He has a much larger frame than GGG plust the fact that he's infinitely more skilled than anyone GGG has faced.

It does come down to what you think of Dawson at that point. Coming off draining himself and getting beat down badly by Ward, plus his performances since, I think Dawson was pretty much done when Stevenson caught him. I don't think much of the win. Other than that, Kovalev's opponents are overall better IMO. Campillo beat Cloud. Cleverly beat Bellew. Sillakh, Agnew, and Caparello probably aren't as good as Fonfara. It's at least an argument either way, again depending on what you think of the Dawson fight. Campillo didn't look the same fighter when he fought Kovalev. He was having problems outside the ring and didn't arrive in America until a couple of days before the fight if I remember correctly. Also - he got knocked out by Fonfara apparently?

Hopkins already said he was considering challenging GGG to a fight at 160 after he beats Kovalev. I GUARANTEE you that GGG's team will turn down that fight if offered to them. Ain't gonna happen anyway but how ya gonna guarantee a thing like that? I'll bet you all your points @5 : 1 that if BHops offers to come to 160 to fight, GGG will accept.

The point is that Golovkin's stalking, bullying style would not translate well fighting guys who are naturally bigger than him and it's not necessarily about height. Stevenson started at 168, Hopkins and Kovalev started at 175. They're more natural at the weight. And Golovkin's whole amateur career was fought at 165lb? I get your point, but if it's not about height, then what really else is there? It's not like he's going to put on 15lb of fat, he'd bulk out and look like Adonis does most likely. Hopkins is a bad example, he fought his 1st fight at 175, lost and then fought as a middleweight afterwards for ages, before moving back up to LHW. I don't think Golovkin preys on smaller fighters, and I don't think that's what makes him look good. Fighters back up because of his power and boxing ability, I fail to see how that would change if his power carries up to 175lb, which I've said many times. Martin Murray is the same height and reach as Kovalev, so we'll see how he does with a bigger man soon enough.
