I both agree and disagree with you.
I think Fury is very underrated by the detractors. The guy is no oaf, he has real skills (except the occasional dunce moment when he uppercuts himself or gets planted for excessive showboating. But when he settles down he puts together good combinations with good speed for a big man.
He will be able hold his own well with Povetkin, instead of hugging he would slug it out on the inside more with Povetkin when he does his bull rush tactic. Fury can brawl well like that.
You already said he isn't as sharp as Wlad which means he'll be trading with Alexander more evenly and even though he has the longer reach than Wlad, Fury does not always fight like a tall man should. He is not that good at keeping opponents like Povetkin at bay. Povetkin himself is quite good at breaching technical giants defences as displayed against Wlad.
I see a very good fight ensuing, as I do most of the top 10 non-Wlad and Wilder fights (I include Wilder because the fight will either end in Wilder KOing the opponent or Wilder getting KOed fast imo).
The main reason I give it to Povetkin and not Fury is cause of the difference in chin and I also think Povetkin would have better stamina/workrate.
Chisora pushed him. I think Povetkin is much better than Chisora. The only reason Chisora done so well against Vitali was because VK was beginning to fade a bit at that point.
You have some good points, I think Fury showed against Kevin Johnson that he can box on the outside quite well actually. Johnson also said Fury hit him harder than Vitali - Don't know if that's true or not but that's what he said. Obviously Johnson is far inferior to Povetkin.
One thing I will say though is that Fury averages more than 60 punches per round AND has an engine that seems like it could last 20 rounds. Work rate is his strong point, and I think he outworks any heavyweight over 12 rounds. He's on the same level as Vitali in terms of punches thrown, albeit not in world championship fights.
Wlad is much more cunning and his defence is obviously better, which is what he used against Povetkin.
Fury is not that slow. He SEEMS slow cause of his height and massiveness. But he actually achieves a comparable speed to the other top HW's because he doesn't sit down on his shots and gains extra speed by not committing his bulk behind them, which is good. I think it's what he needs to do. He puts together combinations better than most of the others because of it. Were he to hit grounded then he'd be too slow.
Szef is selling Fury short.
I think we'll see a sharp, on form Fury against Chisora and then we can gage him much better. He's getting towards his prime now, so let's see what he's got.
People forget about Fury's engine, he doesn't get tired, even when he was massively out of shape he fights for 12 rounds. I agree with LacedUp, he has all the tools & physical gifts, he just needs to use them.
Fury has the best engine of any heavyweight today.
Wlad did not throw one single right hand against Povektin, it wasn't his power to keep Povektin at bay, it was his constant clinching, wrestling and fouling.
As for Fury , a professional boxer that uppercuts himself in the face will probably have a hard time becoming a technician. He's not that good at all in my opinion , in fact I think he kinda sucks.
With that said, the HW is so bad that he might even be the best contender around and given his heart and size might give Wlad problems by staying in range and force Wlad to fight, something the Ukrainian obviously hates.
I don't want to dwell on my war on nostalgia in this thread, but I want to quickly add that you can trash Fury if you want, but imho, Fury is the modern day Muhammad Ali counterpart in style.
Combination punching, showboating around, baiting (like Ali), this was his style! The main difference being, Fury is massively larger in both ways!
Neither commited power to their punches for increased speed.
Fury is too big to "dance" but the famous version of Ali in the 70's didn't do too much dancing either!
Neither were "technicians" but there are other successful styles. Combinations, feints etc still work on most opponents.
I disagree. I think his jab has improved heaps and bounds. I know the guy was a turd, but look at his fight vs Abell. Even though he was fat and out of shape, the one thing that was good for him was his jab. And his power has turned.
When he was young he didn't carry much. But now, he's 255 pounds and 6'9. if that guy hits you on the chin, you know about it. Wlad doesn't move as quickly as that at all. He's quick for a guy his size, but he's not a quick heavyweight per se.
I don't think Fury is slow at all. We'll disagree there as well. I think he's rather fast to be honest. For his size again. I don't think his chin is suspicious. He's been dropped hard, but he's hardly ever been on stanky legs.
Wlad was dropped multiple times vs bad opponents and he's made it out fine. Fury has a fighting heart, he gets up and knocks the other guy out similar to Wlad, like a true champion.

I can understand why you would say that. I just think he has something that hasn't been shown yet, and it's only really been shown briefly vs Kevin Johnson.
I think he's very underrated and you look at how much trouble Povetkin had with Wladimir's size, Fury is even bigger than Wlad.
Wlad is obviously much better than Fury, but I think Fury takes Povetkin if he stays on the outside.
Fury has one of the longest reaches ever for a professional boxer, a massive 86" reach. To compare, Wlad's is 81" or 82". he's got a massive wingspan and he moves quite well for a big guy. So if he stays on the outside, he could beat anybody imo

As long as Ali is still alive I have him in the top 10. **** it Frazier died but he's still in the top 10 too.
I'm not going to entertain what I think of those 2 h2h right now because most have read it all before by now.
Let me just point out it's CURRENT top 10!
Are Frazier and Ali still fighting? Could they lick any HW today right now? No. One is passed away and the other is in an advanced state of physical and mental degeneration. They aren't beating anybody current even if they had 2ce their mythical skillsets!
Thanks for nothing relevant!
he knocked povetkin down 4 times dude. sure it was ugly with a lot of clinching but povetkin also took some punishment
Yes, mostly to his neck while big Wlad tried to face hump him ... one of the kd's was a shove, then I remember a sneaky left hook after a jab, more of a balance shot than a power shot.
Don't get me wrong, Wlad has power, but the Povektin fight is just the wrong example. Wlad should have been at the very least deducted a point for the way he was pushing down Povketin, not to mention all the clinching.
It was one of the ugliest fights I ever watched ... and as said, can't remember Wlad using his straight right at all.

I mostly disagree here. fury is huge but unlike wlad he gives up his height and doesn't have that strong of a jab. I do agree that fury moves well for a big man and throws descent combinations so povetkin may take a few rounds to adjust to that but I feel confident that povetkin would get inside and chop fury down. fury doesn't have wlads power to get povetkins respect enough imo and he leaves himself to open for counters. povetkin is the best combination puncher in the division imo and fury hasn't seen that yet. could be a good fight while it lasts tho. fury does come to fight,,will give him that

He needs a good jab and decent power to keep Povetkin off him . He doesn't have that. He moves good for a guy his size but that's still not good for a HW, and it's defintely not enough to trouble Povetkin.
People seem to forget that Wlad doesn't only move good for a guy his size. He moves good for a CW, maybe even LHW. He's a freak of nature so comparing him to Fury in the context of the Povetkin fight is pointless.
Fury is sloooow, uncoordinated and his chin is suspicious to say at least, Povetkin would have a field day with him and take him out early, probably before round 6.

I will never understand why people rate Fury so high. He's pratically Adrien Broner of the HW division, but less talented and even less skilled.
I'm willing to put 10 T on Chisora if you're interested.

Absolutely. And I'm serious.
I would also love to see Chisora fighting Povetkin.

Chisora vs Povetkin would be good and rough fight for sure.
I pick Povetkin.
Fury is good.
I am not selling the guy short.
But he's not fought the same comp as Stiverne, Arreola OR Povetkin and never faced a huge puncher like Wilder who is comparably long, fast and aggressive.
Fury's power is accumulative, a bit like Vitali Klitschko's although not as sharp. I don't think he has Vitali's skill or beard though to make mince out of these tougher HW's above.
So far I have seen him beat up high quality former Cruisers whom he out-talled by the best part of a foot and outweighed by 40lbs or so. I need to see more!
I think, had Haye not been injured, he would have clowned and then stopped Fury.
HW Tourny elimination comp!
It would be the greatest thing ever for the sport!
Chagaev no 5? That's very high to me.
Would you expand a little on that?
I think 00's Chagaev belongs on the HW top 10.
Not current Chagaev for me though.
1 Wlad
2 Pulev
3 Stiverne
4 Fury
5 Chagaev
6 Chisora
7 Takam
8 Thompson
9 Glazkov
10 Wilder
