The show "A Los Golpes" (ESPN) today stated that the purse of King Cotto vs El Canelo Alvarez to be:
20 Million
This will make the highest paid Latin American boxer of all times!
War Cotto!!!!
I have the show on DVR, Ill check it out and post a direct transcription once I get home this eve.
Their comments were based on a conversation with Oscar regarding that the fight was pretty much agreed upon, but there the venue was being very difficult.
Ill have to watch again to pull a direct quote, but may be he was referencing at his total purse, including PPV, gate split, etc.
Good luck covering that. I don't even think this fight will generate 20 mil in revenue
?? It's gonna sell at least 500k PPV..at $65 that's 32.5 million. Then it will sell out any arena its in for sure that would probably bring another $10 or whatever. Then of course all the endorsement money from the beer company's or whatever. It will make more then $20 for sure but that's ridiculous for Cotto to get. $15 maybe but $20 is nuts.
This fight would not do more then 600k no way Cotto gets 20 millions and that is why this fight will not be made because Canelo will also want atleast 10 million....
I doubt that. Cotto is what he is: a 500K seller at best. PPV sales are dipping which is why he couldn't hit 400K with Martinez. People tend to get carried away with these projections. This fight does 600K, being optimistic.
it takes two to tango in ppv fights.
The fight ain't happening if Kneeguel wants that much money, :nono:. I could see a pot of $25 million. $15 million for Cotto and $10 million for Canelo sounds fair.
Who cares though. As long as the fight gets done I'll be happy, :boxing:.
:fu2::fu2:
Hmmm...
Fight with Canelo:
20 million, A-Side, gloves of your preference, will come to fight
Fight with Mayweather:
8 million, B-side, will pick your gloves for you, will not come to fight and will run all night
dont forget a biased ref and a HUGE ring

The fight hasn't even been negotiated yet. How the hell would anyone know this? It is all speculation. No one knows anything!
They also commented that the fight should take place in Vegas or Texas and that Cotto should be the A side of the deal.
Lastly they said that De La Hoya indicated that the what was causing the friction was the venue.
Cotto vs Maragarito 2 did 600k... Canelo is 10x's the star Margarito is. The fight does 750k - 1 million.
It stands to reason that Margarito and Canelo fans most likely overlap considerably
It also stands to reason that Canelo did not keep/retain/attract fans during the Mayweather fight with his sub-par performance, and this is just thinking outloud based the Lara PPV totals
Cotto/Margarito II generated like 600K in sales, but dropped nearly 50% for the Martinez fight. Some of that is macro level - these PPVs are seriously expensive with crappy undercards. Some of it is on the micro levels - I know personally alot of my boxing buddies thought that the Margarito fight was the last top end Cotto performance, which followed up with another good showing against Floyd. These were followed up with a letdown against Trout, having most thinking he's finally fully washed up and thinking Martinez would wreck him. To turn around and surprise most people might generate interest in his next PPV, but I don't think much. I think most will say that they missed the last Cotto great performance and it's all down hill from there
So with Cotto towing the line between past-prime and washed up and Canelo's diminished star power - I think 600K with aggressive promotion is the best that fight can generate. It's just too expensive, that ish will be 75 dollars w/ a crappy undercard.
If he can get it good for him, that does kind of show some more difficulties in making this fights both sides want to get paid. There should be a lot of money in that encounter but I don't know if it is quite that much.
Cotto didn't get $10 million for his fight with Martinez. He got much lower than that. Cotto's purse was $3 million, with an upside of up to $7 million pending on how well the PPV performed.
It won't do 1 million buys. The days of the 1 million plus PPV's are probably over unless Pacquaio and Floyd fight each other. A lot of people here are very gullible if they believe Cotto is really going to get $20 million versus Canelo.
Cotto will be getting a guaranteed $7 million for the fight, whereas Martinez will get $1.5 million plus more money from the percentage of PPV upside, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.
