MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao is working hard in training camp and it is showing in his sparring sessions.
In fact, coach Freddie Roach said the Filipino boxer has hurt his sparring partner Mike Jones a couple of times.
''We brought in some big sparring partners – Mike Jones is a really big puncher and so forth and Manny is doing really well with him and he’s hurt him a couple times in camp and he’s shown good power so far and he has shown the intensity that I want,” the boxing trainer said in their recent media conference.
The slick fighting Jones, towers Pacquiao at 6 feet. Roach tapped him to mimic Chris Algieri, whom the Filipino will be fighting on November 22.
Roach said when a fighter gets hurt, the tendency for him is to drop his defense, thereby opening himself for more punches.
With the fight taking place at a 144-pound catch weight, Roach believes Pacquiao can knock Algieri out.
“I would love to see a knockout. I think at 147 he is a little smaller than most of the 147-pounders out there. We have to feed him five times a day for him to make that weight,” he said.
“This fight is at 144 and I think his power will come back. I see a knockout coming for sure.”
But Pacquiao said he won’t be going into the fight on November 22 looking to knockout Algieri. He said they have a game plan in place and he plans to stick to it.
“We cannot go into the fight thinking about the knockout. A knockout will not change the result of the fight as long as we get the win,” the eight-division boxing champion said in a recent media conference for the Algieri fight.
“What we are trying to do right now is to get the focus in training and for the fight that people want to see. Chris Algieri is a very dangerous fighter and we are taking nothing for granted in this training camp.”

Pretty easy to believe. Mike Jones was getting knocked around, cut, and stopped in his last fight by some unknown. It's not like we are being told that Pac was hurting Wlad in a sparring session.
