I only saw the fight live with the post-fight slow-motion, none of the commentators mentioned it but were my eyes deceiving me or was that final punch by Walters right on the back of Nonito's head? I mean clearly on the back of the head?
It's not Walters fault because Nonito had turned his head creating that angle, so it's not intentional, but I'm pretty sure that was an accidental "behind the head" shot? I guess that goes to show the sort of damage those shots can do and why they're illegal?
Gotta catch a replay to double check I guess.
i have a feeling walters will be avoided like the plague.
jhonny, mares, gradovich, loma, step up to the damn plate and lets unify this division
donaire got the sh1t slapped out of him fairly
Of course he is, have you heard anybody mention his name? I do think Loma may fight him within a year tho
Walters was not rabbid punching. That particular punch may have landed closer to the rare, however Donaire's position would be to blame. Walters was not rabbid punching. Donaire simply met his match and a telling, new, compelling boxer/puncher has emerged.
But to me the most impressive thing about Walters is not his power, (although impressive). It's his friggin jab. That jab was snapping Nonito's head around all night. It's long, crisp an thudding. With that weapon at the forefront of his offense, he's a threat to anyone operating inside of his division.
It was very nice to see a long fighter like Walters consistently jab. Most fighters who can punch neglect the jab once they hurt or put their opponent down, but Walters didn't, and that's a good thing.

That shot was not to the back of the head. It's funny how some folks want to speculate that it was but neither the fighter who got hit or his corner are claiming the punch was illegal.
As to the winner fighting Lomo === I think Arum was hoping/wishing Donaire won because it makes for an easy promotion. I really don't think he will or really wants to make Walters vs. Lomo. But we'll soon see
It was close but it appeared as if he caught the side of his head and high. That was a really damaging blow. But...he was rocked by Donaire early and I don't think Nonito is as powerful at feather. Walters' chin remains a slight question mark to me.
It was very close to the back of the head. I thought it was when it happened and was kind of upset until I saw the replay. It was borderline, but legal, and a terrible spot to take a huge right hand.
of course not, just watch the replay. it kind of looked like that to me as well in real time but when you watch the replay from walters right hand side you can see the punch landing right on the temple. great punch and a great performance from walters.
he looked much better than ever before, showing he can rise to the occasion and that he is still improving at 28. nobody is clear cut top of the heap right now at 126, they still have to fight it out to figure out who is top dog. but the way walters demolished donaire you have to have him slightly ahead of the pack imo.
i have to admit i predicted donaire by KO, walters did get wild as i predicted and donaire made him pay. but walters showed a good chin and he boxed very well defensively while still being aggressive after that. something i didnt know he was capable of at this level.
i hope donaire stays at 126 too and fights some of the other guys in the division. donaire-mares, winner fights gradovich-lomachenko winner who then fights the gonzales-walters winner is how i would draw it up myself.
Lol... Loma is fighting him next.
i know loma would fight anyone, all i can hope is that this featherweight tourney goes down and that arum doesnt stop it from happening over some stupid sh1t.
