I really think that is such an underrated win,
It was an absolute clinic. Floyd had been off for two years and to come back and beat Marquez the way he did was simply breath taking.
It's hard to believe that was five years ago. I remember that fight like it was yesterday.
Heres a good copy for anyone who wants to relive that earth shaking night.
Here we go let me just end it now
-Juan was not a ww then but somehow he is now...but after the Floyd fight he went back to 135 and had 1 joke fight at 140..then came back to ww and somehow he is a real ww now although his record there is 2-3(1 win over Alvarado who had 0 ww fights)
he's never been a real ww. Neither was Pac.
Always get this from Floyd fans.
Marquez vs Floyd: It had nothing to do with Marquez who was just getting his feet wet at 135 (2 fights) and having to jump 2 more divisions. It doesn't matter that Marquez never fought at 140 nor at 147. Size don't win fights, skills pays the bills.
Cotto vs Floyd at 160: I hope this fight happens. It would be a dream come true. Imagine Floyd getting another title at 160?
GGG vs Floyd: Floyd never fought at 160. Why doesn't GGG move up to 168?
Floyd vs Cotto at 160 what would be great
That fight was easily the most dramatic showcase Distance Control ever had. Floyd's infinitely greater footspeed, agility and overall athleticism against the popsickle stick legs of Marquez made that fight so completely unfair I could barely watch it. It was like Michael Jordan versus a guy in a wheelchair. Marquez had so little business in the ring with Floyd it's disgusting.
lol that was funny

You are right. It was disgusting from the get go. Floyd took advantage of the situation of having a guy come up nearly 3 divisions. Marquez hit the scales at a flabby 142 while Floyd cheated on the scales and came 2lbs above the initially contracted weight. Floyd played his fans by saying that Marquez was #2 P4P but leaving out the part that he didn't belong at WW, had no fights at 140, had no fights at 147. Heck, Marquez only had 2 fights at 135!
Like you said, that version of Marquez had no business fighting at WW. Blame Floyd for accepting it!

Bradley/Marquez was a spectacular performance.
No one cheated the scales, no one had to come up in weight.... even playing field. Plus Marquez had cemented himself in 147 after KO'ing Pac.
This was a spectacular win for Floyd and highly underrated. Floyd coming off a 2 year vacation to dominate JMM who is a boxing technician in the ring. People talk about weight but a fighter going up in weight isn't as bad as a fight cutting and going down in weight IMO. Floyd did in 1 fight what Manny couldn't do in 4 fights, fact.
THIS^^^
I just rewatched it again, absolutely amazing performance.
If beating a fighter who jumped three weight divisions for the first time is such a great win for FLoyd, Why wouldn't fans want to see a great win for Floyd against GGG? after all, weight you say does not matter that much, skills do, lets make GGG happen, prove it. .

People will never respect that.

if pacquiao fought that weak, flabby marquez he would have sparked him
when pac was still on ariza's program in the third fight he was as strong as the heredia roided marquez
well if your gonna go there then you also have to bring up the fights people thought pac lost as well
PACMAN isn't the guy who is undefeated and has his career and legacy banking on an undefeated record. His fighting style, resume, and personality will win fans.
You really think Mayweather would be where is he now a had he lost to Castillo way back?
Floyds career is so lacking and underwhelming that his fans have to mention a fight where Floyd bloats his opponent up 2 divisions.
What next they are going to rave about how Floyd used Gatti as a punch bag? Trust me, they already do.
2* names missing from Floyd...Erik Morales & Marco Antonio Barrera and (an asterik for JMM since he fought at his ideal weight).
He also did not beat out Castillo in the 1st fight.

marquez requested to come up in wieght smh
Marquez wanted to take a crack at Floyd .... Marquez knew that he can bring Floyd down just so much ....... but he didn't tell Floyd to cheat on the scales and come in over the initially contracted weight.
Don't have anything smart to add to the debate I see...As usual!
Sorry but there is not more one can add. Hence my statement! YOU JUST DON'T GET IT!
Weight: As an example, some fighters balloon to 175 unofficially but fight at 154. While they may be a top 154 fighter that does not equate to being a solid 175 fighter and especially fighting the top 1 or 2 at the Light Heavy weight division.
Same goes with Marquez. Just because he comes in UNOFFIALLY at WW limit does NOT EQUATE to being a solid WW fighter.
So, from what you stated, YOU JUST DON'T GET IT!!!!
Styles: Marquez does good against certain styles. Not so good against others. Nobody is discrediting Floyd for Marquez's deficiencies BUT you can give Floyd just so much credit due to that .....
BUT when you factor in the weight PLUS Floyd coming over the initially contracted weight, PLUS Floyd being a top P4P WW, NO, you should NOT be giving Floyd any credit. ZERO!!!
It's simple to understand but from what you stated, YOU JUST DON'T GET IT!!!!
You bought into Floyd's hyped up cherry pick but if you check out some of his video's or articles AFTER the fight, Floyd says the truth.
Have you seen his body now? Did you see his body then? Dude legit looked flabby vs Floyd. Mosley took off a year and a half between his Marg win and Floyd loss, nobody talked about that layoff. When Floyd had a layoff (wasn't two years btw), people mentioned it way more as being a factor. If Floyd took a two year hiatus, when he was older it would have played a far bigger factor. He stays in shape and was still relatively young. At least not old.
Yet Pac STILL wouldn't fight him then. And people were SCREAMING that Floyd would duck Mosley. EVERYONE wanted that fight to be made at that time.
I have no idea what he said much later as I lost interest and stopped paying attention. But I do remember Nacho openly saying they were deliberately ducking Amir Khan and that Khan was a dangerous opponent for Marquez especially the "brutal" beating from Floyd.
Also, everyone understood that weight was a concern prior to the fight. I even asked JMM personally about the weight and he told me that weight would not be a problem and that his intelligence would compensate. At the time, he seemed more interested in talking to me about a 3rd rematch with Pacquiao than he was about his upcoming fight with Floyd. Maybe Marquez was too focused on Pacquiao and not on Floyd.
Whatever the case, all I'm saying is that after getting dominated by Floyd, JMM did in fact blame it on the weight. Doesn't matter if you believe him or not. He brought it up.
Well you might expect him to make every excuse in the book right after the fight. But later, he and Nacho(Nacho said you need a bring a baseball bat into the ring to beat him) have had lots of great things to say about Floyds skill level. When asked about a rematch with Floyd soon after he KO'd Pac, he said "we've already seen that". That says he believes that it would be the same result in a rematch.
