Mayweather Vs Gatti, as a spectacle, became sickening.
In the 'styles make fights' maxim, it was a complete mismatch. But because of the characters involved, it went far beyond that. I felt like I was witnessing two people fulfilling their own sadomasochistic fantasy. Arturo's career was one long masochistic act, not unlike Jake LaMotta, and Floyd exploited that to reach his sadistic zenith that night.
I found the whole thing very disturbing. And I still do. I'm thankful Buddy McGirt put a stop to it.
Lacy/Calzaghe was a good one but I went with Mayweather/Gatti because on top of the beat down Mayweather tried to humiliate Gatti in front of his fans. I think that was last time Mayweather truly tried to punish someone. He had no respect for Gatti that night.
I will say it was Hopkins/Pavlik.
That fight was such a shock, everyone as usual was thinking this was the fight BHop will finally get KO'd. Pavlik was a young new MW champion and he just got made a fool with. Hopkins took Pavlik's heart and the guy just wasn't the same after that.
He did close his hands early in his career...he just used to break them a lot..he was actually known as a big puncher early in his career
He was never really a big puncher. He always threw those fast shoeshine punches but mixed in hard shots which made his style annoying and awkward for fighters to deal with. He definitely threw more slappy shots in his later fights because of bad hands
I couldn't vote. I know it's a cop out, but I can't decide between Floyd - Gatti and Calzaghe - Lacy. I guess I'll go with Calzaghe - Lacy because at the time it was an upset, and Lacy was completely ruined. I figured Floyd would whoop Gatti, but not like that though.

Battered.
For 12 rounds.
Gatti was only in there for 6... he may of taken some harder p4p shots, but it over in 24 mins.
Could have been a stoppage in the last round, pretty shocked his corner didn't throw in the towel. Didn't have the fighters best interests.

Lord knows why.
He was never a hard puncher despite stopping most of the bums he fought.
The hate is strong in this thread.
There is only one answer here. If you don't know it, you haven't watched the fights.
You basically just said nothing.
lacy fight was awesome, i used to call calzaghe's punches thunderslaps and i'd get negged because people thought i was hating on him, i called them thunderslaps because even though he clearly slapped, he slapped damn hard
if calzaghe knew how to close his hands and hit with the knuckles he'd have been a big puncher and have alot less hand problems

Calzaghe vs Lacy was one of the most satisfying whoopings i've ever witnessed as a fan outside of Pacquiao vs Margarito. I couldn't stand Jeff Lacy at the time and was so happy to see him get his behind beat. Not every day you see someone's soul taken inside the ring.
He got his ass taken in that ring..looked like a prison fight where someone was trying to stop from getting his anus stretched and lost

The reason it lasted 24 mins is because Gatti had Buddy "I'mma stop it, baby" McGirt in his corner....luckily for him.
Lacy's corner should be ashamed of themselves for letting that massacre go the full distance.
truth....Buddy Mcgirt's favorite line": IM STOPPING IT BABY..I LOVE YOU TOO MUCH":...LOL Mallinaggi fired him for that
gatti was beaten up from the first round to the last, he was getting hurt consistently from the first round to both body as well as the head. the reason it only lasted 24min was because he couldnt continue while lacy managed to finish on his feet, even as he was completely exhausted in the last couple of rounds. only then did joe begin to batter him but still failed to get him out of there..
