Oscar De La Hoya, at a media roundtable at HBO, confirms that it will be Canelo Alvarez-Josh Clottey in December.
Horrific fight.
Clottey will be sure to do absolutely nothing, like he does in EVERY important fight of his career.
The Cotto fight was the only fight where he tried for 9 rounds, and then decided he better not try to win.
Pretty much this. That said, I'll still watch it.
These dudes are going to be shocked at what Clottey does in this fight. Possible KO coming up.
If Clottey comes to fight this becomes a very dangerous matchup for Canelo. The problem is that even in his prime he would often come up small on the grand stage. Kinda hard to envision him doing that now against a kid who's got the whole machine behind him.
I think this is going to be a good fight. It has FOTY written all over it, the two styles will mesh well, only reason Canelo got to tee off on Angulo, is because Angulo is possibly the slowest 154lb boxer ever.
Its a ****ty fight not going to lie, Rather see him fight a Rosado or Kirkland
is it just me or does the guy in your avatar look like Isaac Frost off of fight night champion:boxing:
If you like Clottey you should get at least 5-1 odds, and it probably will be closer to 10-1.
Close to 10-1 and I definitely have to get in on that. Especially since I see no scenario where Canelo KOs Clottey.
If Clottey fights anything like he did 5 years ago it'll be a tough fight for Canelo.
It would be fun if Cotto and Canelo fought on the same card. It would be a throw back to the old days of hyping up mega fights.
kirkland priced himself out again...

I hope the same Clottey that scorched Mundine's ass shows up and he knocks out Alvarez so that we won't be subjected to the Alvarez hype any longer.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has an “imminent” deal to fight former welterweight world champion Joshua Clottey on Dec. 6 in Houston, boxing officials close to the negotiations told the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday.
The officials were not authorized to immediately speak publicly as contracts remained unsigned.
Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 knockouts), who last week struck a new agreement to have his bouts televised on HBO pay-per-view, this year has defeated Alfredo Angulo (technical knockout in March) and Erislandy Lara (split decision in July).
The popular 24-year-old former junior-middleweight world champion from Mexico is pointing himself toward a May 2015 super-fight against middleweight world champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico.
Alvarez’s September 2013 loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. was the highest-grossing pay-per-view card in boxing history.
The 36-year-old Clottey (38-4, 22 KOs) has fought just three times since an embarrassing 2010 performance against Manny Pacquiao at Cowboys Stadium.
In that bout, Clottey took some early abuse from the hard-punching Pacquiao and retreated to a defensive position in which he repeatedly covered his head with his arms and gloves.
Clottey most recently fought in Australia in April, defeating former middleweight title challenger Anthony Mundine by unanimous decision.
Negotiators at Golden Boy Promotions worked to position hard-hitting Texan James Kirkland as Alvarez’s opponent, but Kirkland was deemed “not cooperative,” feuding with his promoter, rapper 50 Cent, and failing to agree to terms.
Alvarez-Clottey at this hour appears as if it will be fought in Houston’s Minute Maid Park, home of the Astros, but NRG Stadium is also a possibility, according to a boxing official involved in the negotiations but unauthorized to discuss the talks publicly.

Yeah activity is the factor, but is that what Canelo is known for or something?
And there are different sorts of activity. Footspeed is relevant when comparing how activity is administered between a Pac and a Margarito. The location of the fighters at any given time couldn't be more different. The style of those two fights Pac-Clottey and Marg-Clottey were different..Clottey got off against Margarito much more than he did against Pac. He won more round against Margarito. Margarito was always right there.
Canelo will mostly be right there too. But the point is...he won't be sniffing the punch outputs of Pac or Margarito. 513 total punches through the 10th against Angulo who allowed him to tee off. I want to say his career high was against Shane at about 700.
Canelo's stamina and lukewarm output should give plenty of time for Clottey to punch in between and make good exchanges and a good fight.
Yeah I don't think Canelo has the activity but my point was that it isn't just foot speed that throws Clottey off. In fact, I don't think it's foot speed at all. Just activity and also being able to stand up to his attack. He tends to go in a shell when you do that. He did that with Baldomir, Margarito, Pacquiao and strangely enough, even with Corrales to an extent.
I don't think it was foot speed. Clottey shells up all the time. He did it against Margarito. It actually has much more to do with activity.
Yeah activity is the factor, but is that what Canelo is known for or something? He got in the ring with Floyd F*cking Mayweather and played cute.
